Rock mass inherently contain various types of discontinuities that can be accessed using seismic signals. To investigate the effect of flaw on seismic signals, laboratory-based experiments were conducted in this study utilizing high-frequency seismic P-wave (ultrasonic) signals, with the aim of gaining further insights into how the presence of these flaws affect the ultrasonic waveforms. For this purpose, prismatic Agaria marble specimens (dimensions of 151 mm x 76 mm x 26 mm) containing a preexisting flaw were employed. A novel multi-channel test setup was developed to enable the transmission of seismic signals across the specimen. Seismic waveforms were acquired in real-time using a LabVIEW-controlled system with a sampling frequency of 20 MHz. Piezoelectric transducers with a central frequency of 1 MHz were operated at 0.5 MHz, 1 MHz, and 2.25 MHz in this study to probe the influence of varying the operational transducer frequency. The findings quantitatively demonstrate that modulating the transducer frequency does not significantly impact the propagation behavior of P-waves through the flawed Agaria marble specimen.
