Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is an escalating neurodegenerative disorder and the leading cause of dementia, with early detection being essential for prompt action and slowing disease progression. However, due to subtle and overlapping brain deterioration patterns, early AD diagnosis is difficult. This study proposes a hybrid deep learning model that integrates Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to automatically detect and classify AD from axial brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images. The model uses VGG16, pre-trained on ImageNet, for feature extraction, with an LSTM layer to capture temporal dependencies in MRI slices. The dataset includes three categories: AD, Cognitively Impaired (CI), and Normal Control (NC) subjects. To improve generalization, data augmentation techniques such as median blurring and horizontal flipping were used. The model, which was trained with the Adam optimizer, achieved a test accuracy of 0.9942 and a loss of 0.030. High sensitivity and specificity were shown by the performance evaluation which included a classification report and evaluation matrix, particularly in distinguishing AD from CI cases. This hybrid CNN-LSTM model effectively leverages spatial and temporal information for early AD detection, highlighting its potential to improve automated diagnostic tools and enable timely intervention. © 2025 IEEE.

In agriculture, vegetable farming is the most dominating type of farming as it contributes 2.45% to the African GDP growth. It is central to fostering growth reducing poverty and improving food security in south Africa. With more than 70% of rural population depending on agriculture for their livelihoods. However, farmers are facing ongoing challenges over monitoring of farm produce that requires extensive physical interaction within the farm activities. Another challenge, theft and killing cases are increasing in the farming sector due to poor security system involved. The current study proposes the use of GSM sim800 module to communicate with the user. Inconsistent power supply and high energy has greatly affected the agricultural sector. In this paper a cheaper prototype that uses an Arduino microcontroller to control and monitor irrigation by eliminating water waste, and provide maximum security is proposed, it is remotely controlled. © 2025 IEEE.

Current human collapse detection methods are plagued by several issues. These methods often rely on manual monitoring or simplistic threshold-based sensor systems, which can be slow to respond and prone to human errors. Traditional systems frequently struggle with high false alarm rates, where non-critical events are mistaken for collapses. Conversely, they might miss actual collapses due to their limited detection capabilities. The proposed method aims to detect falls in video footage by using pose estimation techniques. The project utilizes the OpenPifPaf library to extract keypoints of a person and Shufflenetv2k30, which is a pre-trained model that can be used to extract relevant features from input images, essential for accurate human pose estimation. It focuses on calculating the velocity change at the neck keypoints to identify falls. The velocity threshold is fine-tuned for the current dataset. When a fall is detected, the system continuously monitors the person to determine whether they remain motionless. If the person remains still for a predefined period, an alarm is triggered. The alarm service can be customized, allowing the system to connect with different types of alert mechanisms. Here, a mobile computing system and application are utilized for the same. The method is evaluated with the Le2i public dataset. © 2025 IEEE.

Visually impaired individuals face significant challenges in accessing textual and Braille-based information, limiting their independence and engagement with the world. To address these issues, this work introduces an innovative assistive system that combines machine learning, computer vision, and text-to-speech technologies. This paper discusses the design and implementation of a system that enables real-time recognition and processing of printed text and Braille characters, converting them into audible speech for immediate use. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) powered by TensorFlow and Keras ensure high accuracy in Braille character recognition. At the same time, OpenCV handles crucial image preprocessing steps such as grayscale conversion, thresholding, and contour detection. Text recognition is facilitated through Tesseract OCR, and the pyttsx3 library provides efficient multilingual text-to-speech conversion. Compact and user-friendly, the system has the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for visually impaired individuals by fostering independence and inclusivity. © 2025 IEEE.

The low organic soils present in the Kari lands of the Kuttanad region bear significant importance in the design of shallow foundations due to their inherently poor engineering characteristics and usually require stabilization. In recent years, sustainable stabilization practices that rely on waste-derived products are gaining attention. The augmentation of the shear parameters of soils with low organic content by the inclusion of sustainable crustacean biopolymers is a novel method owing to their contribution to waste management. The current study aims to understand the consolidated undrained behavior of chitosan-treated low-organic soils relying on triaxial tests. The tests are performed on samples mixed with 1% and 2% of the biopolymers. The effect of the curing period and confining pressure on these samples are evaluated by conducting consolidated undrained triaxial tests at confining pressures of 50, 100, and 150 kPa to evaluate the efficiency of treatment. The microstructural improvement is confirmed by conducting a scanning electron microscope. The chitosan treatment exhibits a considerable enhancement in effective cohesion by a factor of 1.88 for 60-day cured 2% amended samples owing to the networking of soil particles by fiber formations, as revealed from SEM images. The presence of the fibers contributes to the increase in the angle of internal friction with the curing period. Considering the range of effective cohesion (96.2-142.9 kPa) and effective angle of internal friction (9.4°-20.5°) attained for chitosan-stabilized soil samples, these materials can serve as excellent foundation materials. © ASCE.

If adversaries were to obtain quantum computers in the future, their massive computing power would likely break existing security schemes. Since security is a continuous process, more substantial security schemes must be developed. Current PQC schemes primarily focus on data security or key exchange, and further improvement towards enhanced PQC primitives is required. Our proposal in this research is an innovative paradigm for PQC-focused cloud data security. The proposed HEDT approach achieves encryption and decryption with significantly lower latency (20% improvement) and higher reliability than AES, DES, and RSA, as demonstrated through experimental results. Furthermore, ECSIDH, a hybrid key exchange mechanism combining SIDH and ECDH, improves security strength by 50% while maintaining computational costs within 1.13x of SIDH. Compared to individual key exchange schemes like SIDH, ECSIDH offers superior security as a PQC candidate. These results confirm the robustness and efficiency of the proposed framework in ensuring secure data outsourcing and key exchange in cloud environments. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. The purpose of this study is to develop a daylight device with variable optical properties using near-infrared absorbing reflectors that can provide adequate solar radiation shielding or solar heat utilization during daylight use throughout the year. By using a thermal barrier coating agent, a near-infrared absorbing reflector with high visible reflectance and low solar reflectance was created. The results of the light duct model experiment showed that daylight could be taken in stably, and solar radiation could be taken in at the solar altitude in the winter and shielded at the solar altitude in the summer. © 2025 Architectural Institute of Japan. This paper presents the hydration kinetics at three different curing temperatures of a CEM II/B-M type Portland composite cement, used as main binder in the radioactive waste conditioning matrix. Information regarding the hydration kinetics are obtained by two methods: DTA/TGA analysis and software modeling. The results of these two approaches are correlated and compared in order to understand how modeling can be used in the estimation the long-time hydration evolution of this complex multicomponent-multiphase system of the cement-based materials. © 2025, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Buildings must be assessed over their lifecycles considering the environmental impact. Building demolition work differs drastically from other types of work as it lacks deliverables such as buildings or structures. Hence, it is necessary to establish evaluation methods according to the performance requirements to accurately conduct demolition work. This review proposes evaluation indexes based on three factors (economy, safety, and environment) and total to understand the conditions of demolition methods. These evaluation indexes were used to simulate the demolition of actual buildings. Rainfall is a key factor triggering slope failures, leading to geohazards and affecting civil infrastructure. Traditional slope stability assessments use dry-state analysis and groundwater table models, which may be insufficient for predicting the Factor of Safety (FoS) under rainfall conditions. This study investigated the governing factors that can induce slope failure due to rainfall infiltration in non-tropical areas, focusing on a previously failed slope in Northern New Jersey. A two-dimensional Limit Equilibrium Method (LEM) and Finite Element Method (FEM) were employed. Initial dry-state and subsequent post-rainfall slope stability analyses were conducted. The results indicated a reduction in FoS due to rainfall (LEM: 1.59 to 1.46, FEM: 1.49 to 1.11), attributed to reduced matric suction and increased soil saturation. Further analysis revealed a 6%-25.5% FoS decrease, with shear strain (+139%) and displacement (+95%) increasing. The findings suggest that rising rainfall events may destabilize slopes, necessitating slope protection work for long-term stability. © ASCE.
