Detecting seepage in earthen dams is crucial for ensuring their structural integrity and preventing potential hazards. This study proposes a novel, non-destructive method employing a thermal infrared camera to detect seepage and to understand the thermal color contrast for seepage-induced surface erosion. For a given camera, operating parameters, i.e., atmospheric temperature, humidity, and emissivity of the materials, a series of laboratory experiments are performed on model earthen dams for varying seepage rates, ranging from nominal to significant seepage rates. The study aims to understand the seepage patterns and role of the temperature gradient in monitoring the stability of earthen dams under diverse seepage conditions, facilitating improved risk assessment and management strategies for dam infrastructure. Additionally, advanced temperature matrix analysis is performed to correlate temperature differences with the seepage rates adopted in the study. Finally, some insights on integrating the current findings with the rapidly advancing drone techniques in the early detection of seepage-related anomalies across various seepage scenarios are provided. © ASCE.

It designs and implements an IoT-based night patrol robot that has improved surveillance capabilities by combining voice technology. The patrol robot system is remote-controlled, patrols designated areas at night, and provides real-time monitoring through onboard sensors and live video feed. This robot provides an easy interface to human operators that can give voice commands. There is no need for physical interactions in terms of remote control or status updates that can run on the desired location from instructions from the control room. The night patrol human risks lead to reduced awareness, vulnerabilities, physical health, and work-life balance. Motion detection, along with the sensing of environmental conditions, and secure wireless communication ensure real-time alerts for suspicious activities in areas like cities, critical areas, and construction sites. The patrol robot is efficient, scalable, and cost-effective in enhancing traditional security systems. The robot can run in a crucial area that human patrol cannot do, ensuring reliability, flexibility, and adaptability to the environment it roams. It includes technologies like motion detection, location tracking, and voice controls that can reduce human intervention while providing improvements in safety in high-risk environments. The robot can increase the emergency patrol assistant by monitoring live video streaming to control rooms. The results from prototype testing indicate effectiveness in performing patrol duties and in responding to voice-based instructions in varying environmental conditions. © 2025 IEEE.

Construction and demolition waste (CDW) has become a significant environmental concern worldwide, given the rapid urbanization and the demolition of end-of-life structures. CDW comprises the waste materials resulting from construction, renovation, maintenance, and demolition activities, with demolition activities contributing to 90% of the total CDW. Geosynthetic reinforcements are widely used for soil reinforcement applications. Geocell is a three-dimensional honeycomb cellular structure made of interconnected cells typically filled with highly frictional granular soil, such as sand or aggregate. Granular materials such as sand and gravel are getting very scarce these days. This study focuses on exploring the suitability and effectiveness of CDW material as infill for geocell-reinforced soil structures. Model tests were conducted on geocell-reinforced foundation, and performance of the geocell with CDW infill was monitored. The outcomes of this study will contribute to sustainable waste management practices and provide valuable guidance for incorporating CDW into geotechnical engineering applications, promoting environmental sustainability in the construction industry. © ASCE.

The efficient and appropriate power flow technologies are necessary for better performance of renewable energy system applications. The comparative study of different MPPT algorithms, which are best for RES applications due to their influence on efficiency, low response time and the stability under different intervals of irradiance and temperature. When comes to this context, the key focus is evaluation of algorithms to the converter which is bidirectional by considering the desired operational conditions. The observations of this study are a forward step to optimization of systems with bidirectional converters in improving the reliability and sustainability. © 2025 IEEE.

Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment are now integrated in automated systems that enhance code stability, and accelerate the deployment process as well as improving monitoring of the whole system in the software development field. This document deals with setting up of a strong CI/CD process involving AWS cloud services and DevOps. The infrastructure is built with the help of Terraform which ensures the scalability and repeatability applying the Infrastructure as Code (IaC) approach. A safe Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) is designed consisting of public and private subnets, load balancing for traffic distribution, and CloudFront CDN to improve geographical distribution. Jenkins is used in CI process to perform disk analysis, OWASP and Trivy vulnerability scanning, and making Docker images. The CD phase use ArgoCD for updates on Kubernetes and integrates Monitoring and observability using Prometheus and Grafana. Notifications are produced to JIRA and email communication for improvement. With the help of the offered cloud services and DevOps tool it is possible to consolidate the SDLC and bring effects in code safety, testing and utilization. This document also provides an overview of methods, instruments, and outcomes, demonstrating how the CI/CD automation influences the development and operation positively. © 2025 IEEE.

Installing elevators in old neighborhoods is an important livelihood project that can improve the quality of life of residents, but the current promotion work is slow. This paper adopts an interpretive structure model (ISM) to analyze the inner relationship of 22 influencing factors of installing elevators in old districts, and constructs a three-order structural model;according to the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), the weights of the influencing factors are calculated to obtain the maximum weight percentage. The results show that the government factor is the deep influencing factor, and the government's investment strength, residents' share ratio, approval procedures, and requirements are at the top of the total weight ranking, which are the main influencing factors. Finally, corresponding solution measures are given for these factors to provide a theoretical basis for accelerating the project of adding elevators to old neighborhoods. © ASCE.

This paper primarily focuses on the design and development of a Low Cost & Compact Ventilator (LCCV) using Proportional Solenoid Valves (PSVs) and DC drive. The PSV, a promising technological component, is used to control the inspiratory to expiratory ratio [I:E ratio] of the ventilator module. Low-cost and low power-consuming electronic products available in the market are employed to produce an efficient, effective, and affordable LCCV. The dual channel DC drive used in the LCCV consists of a pair of step-down DC-DC choppers whose output is connected to two PSVs to control the I:E ratio of the ventilator system. The PWM pulses generated by an Arduino microcontroller is fed to the gate terminals of the MOSFET switches of dual-channel DC drive through driver and opto isolator *** duty cycle of the switching pulses of the dual channel DC drive is adjusted for fast dynamic operation of the PSVs. The inspiratory-to-expiratory (I:E) ratio can be set independently after assessing the patient's condition. A simulation of a dual-channel DC drive is carried out using MATLAB/Simulink, and the results obtained are consistent with the embedded hardware output of the LCCV module. Bluetooth technology is employed to test the functionality of a test lung with ventilator module, which replicates the behaviour of human lungs. The expansion and contraction, as well as the fast dynamic operation of the test lung are found to be controlled efficiently according to the I:E ratio and duty cycle settings of the LCCV module. The designed module is more affordable, operationally effective, and efficient than similar ventilator models on the market, making it ideal for launch with significant benefits for patients, especially in rural areas and ambulance systems. © 2025 IEEE.

In the realm of information security, ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of image communication has become a critical concern, especially in the context of modern technological advancements. This paper presents an in-dept. analytical study of image encryption using asymmetric key cryptography algorithms such as RSA, ElGamal, Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), and LUC. The study explores the encryption and decryption mechanisms of these algorithms, assesses their computational efficiency, and evaluates their strengths and weaknesses in the context of secure image transmission. The paper concludes with a detailed comparison of these algorithms, identifying the most suitable ones for practical application in secure communication systems. Finally, the study highlights the need for algorithms that are not only secure but also capable of efficiently handling the growing challenges, ensuring minimal computation overhead and no compromise in encryption and decryption speeds. © 2025 IEEE.

Expansive subgrades swell and shrink with moisture changes, mainly due to water entering the pavement edges. Large-scale model experiments were performed inside a test chamber measuring 1,500 mm × 1,500 mm × 1,000 mm. This paper proposes a mechanism that simulates the application of differential swell (uplift) pressure applied at the subgrade level through the use of a 250-mm diameter plate. Both unreinforced and reinforced pavement sections, incorporating geogrid and geotextile, were investigated to quantify the reduction in surface heave profile and stress distribution within the pavement layers. The effectiveness of small aperture size (24 mm × 24 mm) biaxial polyester geogrid (GG) of ultimate tensile strength of 100 kN/m and woven polyester geotextile (GT1) of ultimate tensile strength of 100 kN/m was investigated. Model pavements were built with a prepared subgrade thickness of 500 mm, a base course thickness of 250 mm, and a subbase course thickness of 150 mm. Moderate to high swell pressures of 425 kPa were applied at the subgrade level. The study’s findings reveal that the use of reinforcement materials significantly improves surface heave. Among the reinforcements tested, geotextile was found to be most effective, reducing heave by approximately 38% compared to an unreinforced section. Additionally, the reinforcements were found to significantly reduce stresses within the pavement layers, further highlighting the effectiveness of geosynthetics in mitigating differential heave-induced damage. © ASCE.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been an emerging field in recent years. WSNs have major advantages in battlefields and emergency situations. However, due to the limited power of the sensor nodes, WSNs are restricted with their applications. The effective management of energy over the sensor nodes leads to good performance of the network. In this paper, we are proposing the energy-aware cluster head selection algorithm (ECHSA) for WSNs. The cluster head selection plays a major role in reducing the energy consumption of the cluster. To support our approach, the minimum energy transmission is proposed, and the simulation of the ECHSA is carried out with the NS-2 simulation. The results are compared with the sectored low energy adaptive cluster head (S-LEACH) and Theins algorithms. The results proved the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. © 2025 by Begell House, Inc.
