Small object detection aims to localize and classify small objects within images. With recent advances in large-scale vision-language pretraining, finetuning pretrained object detection models has emerged as a promising approach. However, finetuning large models is computationally and memory expensive. To address this issue, this paper introduces multi-point positional insertion (MPI) tuning, a parameter-efficient finetuning (PEFT) method for small object detection. Specifically, MPI incorporates multiple positional embeddings into a frozen pretrained model, enabling the efficient detection of small objects by providing precise positional information to latent features. Through experiments, we demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method on the SODA-D dataset. MPI performed comparably to conventional PEFT methods, including CoOp and VPT, while significantly reducing the number of parameters that need to be tuned. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Regions of attraction are a fundamental and extensively researched concept in control theory—their accurate characterization is essential to establishing the robustness of equilibria to perturbations since they quantify the set of initial conditions that converge to a given stable equilibrium point. They are of special interest for nonlinear dynamical systems, as they often lack analytical solutions and therefore require the use of numerical methods to obtain useful approximations. In this paper, we leverage recent results in control barrier function theory to propose a novel method to approximate regions of attraction about stable fixed points. First, we establish connections between the region of attraction and the idea of an “explicit region of attraction” for dynamical systems. This motivates an extension of control barrier functions termed flow-control barrier functions $(\phi-\boldsymbol{CBF})$ , and we introduce the idea of an “auxiliary dynamical system” connected to a target system via a $\phi-\mathbf{CBF}$ . We construct a time-varying polytope governed by expansion dynamics, but bounded to lie within the desired region of attraction. The main result establishes that as the number of polytope vertices increases, this polytope approximates the region of attraction with arbitrary accuracy. We illustrate our method through various compelling examples.

An approach that allows to partially solve the Cover-Source Mismatch problem is described. Proposed approach is strictly limited by steganography that distortion can be localize. The article is devoted to applying proposed technique to Least Significant Bits Replacement steganography in image spatial domain. The calibrated images (without the least significant bit plane) are analyzed. The procedures of sorting, clustering and regression analysis are used. The results of the computer experiment indicating an accuracy improvement of steganalysis are presented.

The article presents a simulation model of a pneumatic drive for electrodes of a stationary contact spot welding machine. Thanks to the developed model, it becomes possible to analyze the system, as well as visually study its operation. The result of modeling the system is the obtained transients of the elements of the pneumatic system. The developed simulation model adequately describes the state and behavior of a real system of pneumatic compression of electrodes. The work is of interest to pneumatic engineers, designers and other specialists working in the field of pneumatics and can be used for more accurate and efficient design, analysis and optimization of not only a specific system of pneumatic compression of electrodes, but also pneumatic systems in general. © 2023 IEEE.

Bangladesh, as a developing nation, faces persistent challenges in satisfying its energy demands, primarily due to its limited natural resource reserves, particularly natural gas. Natural gas is considered a crucial factor in the country's socioeconomic development and serves as the main driving force for its industries and power plants. Nevertheless, its unregulated and extensive utilization poses a threat to the sustainability of all sectors, making it imperative to reduce its consumption. This study focuses on decreasing the consumption of natural gas in the domestic sector by advocating the adoption of induction cooking. In this context, the electrical energy needed for cooking will be derived from the readily accessible rooftop and floating photovoltaic (PV) installations within a particular community. This approach not only satisfies the community's electrical energy requirements but also contributes to mitigating the country's energy crisis to a certain extent. © 2023 IEEE.

Feedback Optimizing MPC for Load Frequency control and Economic Dispatch

With increasing renewable generation, demand response, and deregulation, power networks are becoming more uncertain, time-varying, and strongly coupled. As a result, the conventional approach of performing separate economic dispatch (ED) and load-frequency control (LFC) operations may no longer guarantee smooth and cost-efficient regulation of frequency across interconnected power networks. To address this, we present a tracking model predictive control (MPC) algorithm which simultaneously achieves economic dispatch and secondary frequency control in a multi-area power network. A unique feature of the proposed algorithm is that it exploits the implicit feedback in MPC to regulate the interconnected power system towards steady-state equilibria that solve a multi-area economic dispatch problem, without explicitly computing the latter as a reference to be followed or estimating the unknown disturbances. This feedback-based optimization approach endows the algorithm with inherent robustness to uncertainty (such as unknown step changes in the demand). Simulation results for a two-area power network show improved steady-state economic performance compared to standard MPC-based frequency control schemes, and better dynamic performance compared to other feedback-based optimization schemes.

Nonlinear Iterative Learning control: A Frequency-Domain Approach for Fast Convergence and High Accuracy

Iterative learning control (ILC) involves a trade-off between perfect, fast attenuation of iteration-invariant disturbances and amplification of iteration-varying ones. The aim of this paper is to develop a nonlinear ILC framework that achieves fast convergence, robustness, and low converged error values in ILC. To this end, the method includes a deadzone nonlinearity in the learning update, which uses the difference in amplitude characteristics of repeating and varying disturbances to modify the learning gain for each error sample. A criterion for monotonic convergence of the nonlinear ILC algorithm is provided, which is used in combination with system measurements to select suitable design parameters. The proposed algorithm is validated using simulations, in which fast convergence to low error values is demonstrated.

In a modern society, driven by both economic interests and a concern for personal privacy, indoor occupancy, either at workspace or in other type of accommodation, became a matter of stressed research interest. Though various methodologies have been developed so far, the proposed solutions of a technical problem of occupancy estimation still suffer from narrow perspectives and partial solutions, usually formulated as an optimization of a chosen mathematized problem. This paper considers the broader context of the problem, particularly its physical background, basic assumptions for the effective use of the environmental variables in occupancy estimations and the viable frameworks, either conventional or modern machine learning ones, that are to meet those assumptions. The approach is experimentally verified in a case study.

In the paper, the authors describe the improved operational amplifier architecture (op-amp). Complementary FETs with the p-n-junction control were used in the design of this op-amp, depletion-mode complementary MOS can also be used. The character of the suggested op-amp is to create conditions that contribute to obtaining low systematical constituent offset voltage (Voff), which significantly depends on the change in the drain-gate specifications of transistors when the static voltages on their drains change. It should be noted that the high symmetric of the static regimen of the input transistors and output transistors of the folded-cascode of the suggested op-amp is supplied to reduce this constituent Voff in the considered op-amp circuit. Computer modelling of the op-amp carried out in the LTSpice was fulfilled in the large range of temperatures (from-197°C to 27°C). The suggested circuit design minimizes the systematical constituent Voff (below 30 µV) and increases the open-loop gain of op-amp to 60 dB. The JFET op-amp circuitry suggested in the paper is advised to analog-to-digital and analog interfaces, incl. those operating at exposure to radiation and low temperatures. © 2022 IEEE.

In the paper, the design and Simulink implementation of a predictive current control structure in dq frame for a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) are presented. Starting from the multivariable model of the currents in the dq reference frame, first it is decoupled and through the rejection of the disturbance introduced by the back-EMF, two single-input single-output (SISO) systems result whose dynamics are generated by R-L circuits. For these SISO systems, the model predictive control (MPC) algorithms are designed that allow the consideration of physical limitations through constraints The performances of the current control structure with MPC algorithms are compared with those obtained with the conventional PI controllers.
