The present paper introduces a comparative analysis of the management of a stochastic optimization problem using both a risk deterministic approach and a support vector machine strategy. This optimization problem is formulated in consideration of the influence produced by environmental factors, such as irradiance and temperature, on a photovoltaic panel. The problem will be solved by applying both methods to determine the Maximum Power Point (MPP), thereby to enhance the power generation efficiency. The primary objective is to conduct an analysis comparing the two approaches, with the aim of recommending the most suitable approach for Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT). © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. As knowledge of the biological and biophysical basis of cellular function has increased, opportunities to understand the cellular and molecular functioning of organic matter have expanded, and gene expression microarrays have become a widely used technique to study the dynamics of biological processes. In this paper, we present a gene expression analysis approach using R programming, starting from mRNA oligonucleotide matrices ending with interrelated genes, analyzed within a chosen biological process. © 2022, Politechnica University of Bucharest. This paper deals with the design of an Android mobile application and visualization of the measured values of particulate matter and meteorological factors from the measurement stations. The application can in principle be effectively used in any field of data visualization. The architecture of the mobile application, the security, the use of AWS services to access the data in the InfluxDB databases, as well as the user interface and graphical visualizations of the measured data are described and illustrated. The application is user tested and the paper documents their first experiences using the mobile application. © 2023 IEEE.

In Advanced Driver-Assistance systems (ADAS) and automatic driving, it is important to accurately recognize objects around the vehicle. DETReg is one of the unsupervised pre-Training methods using Transformer, which is self-supervised by combining localization and categorization. DETReg performs self-supervised learning on unlabeled images. Then, it extracted a wide range of features from rich aspects of the data and gained the flexibility to adapt to many variations. Fine tuning then used the labeled dataset of the target task to fine tune the model to fit the specific dataset. This allowed DETReg to achieve higher accuracy in the object detection task. However, it is difficult to learn DETReg efficiently because of its slow learning time. In this paper, we propose a new pre-Training method for object detection, called Semi-DETReg, that utilizes a few supervised labels during self-supervised learning. We incorporate semi-supervised learning into DETReg by using a portion of the supervised training data in the pre-Training to improve efficiency. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method by conducting experiments and comparing our method to a similarly trained DETReg. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper describes a computational investigation on the use of a standard Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to design a model-free optimal feedback control law based only on input-output data. The considered case study involves vibration suppression of a thin-walled rotating cylinder with collocated piezoelectric actuator/sensor patches. To assess the optimization algorithm performance, comparisons were made with a model-based optimal feedback control law for linear quadratic regulation, obtained by solving the associated algebraic Riccati equation. The simulations include examining the effect of different rotational speeds and parameter uncertainty. The results show a good match between the PSO-based feedback control law and the model-based optimal feedback control law. At the same time, an informed choice of parameter ranges for the PSO algorithm should be made. © 2023 IEEE.

Time-variant Free-Space Optical channel behaviour is analysed for temporal variations of Cn2 values, satellite motion and satellite passes. These variations lead to non-stationary statistical properties of the irradiance at the receiver. The analyses are based on representative link models and complemented by measured data from recent test campaigns. These are the 10 km’s near-horizontal field test with the TOMCAT demonstrator terminal and the in-orbit test between the SmallCAT terminal onboard the NorSat-TD LEO microsatellite and the TNO optical ground station GOCAT in The Hague. The study shows substantial variations of the statistical properties of the irradiance for LEO satellite motion and predominantly for time-variant Cn2 behaviour. For variations of satellite passes – with respect to the ground station – the sensitivity of irradiance properties over the full pass is less pronounced. An analysis of the probability distribution of elevation angles over all satellite passes reveals a high probability of low elevation links. © 2024 SPIE.

This paper considers in general the problem of control system performance improvement, and, particularly, using predictive control systems. Various ways of improvement are described and the predictive system is considered in detail. This system is implemented in a laboratory workbench equipped with a physical model of an electric heater and a modern PLC. The system consists of a PID-algorithm, a prediction module and an auto-tuning module. The prediction algorithm is linear. The auto-tuning module allows to refresh the plant model and to re- tune the PID-algorithm if necessary. The possibility to implement the control system described using a modern PLC is estimated and the performance of this system is analyzed. Influence of the prediction time value is analyzed and recommendation on the prediction time value selection is given. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, and especially during the on-going pandemic, the interest in investigating the dynamics of infodemics has increased to unprecedented levels. In this study we propose an agent-based model for the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and other similar information. The model is based on the susceptible-infected-recovered-susceptible epidemic interpretation. We introduce a rule-based reasoning module to model individual bias in the perception of information based on the psychology concept of illusion of knowledge. We integrate this module into a deliberative-reactive agent controller structure and a decentralized control scheme for the multi-agent system. Results show significant differences between the outputs of the proposed model and the classical version, impressing on the effects of considering local agent individuality when modeling human psycho-social interactions. © 2023 IEEE.

The work demonstrates the process of developing a machine learning model for a system for monitoring and controlling the quality of predough at a bakery. This system will provide continuous analysis of the predough parameters, such as temperature, humidity, lifting force and titranic acidity, which will ensure timely detection of deviations in the quality of the predough and avoid production problems. In addition, it will help automate the quality control process and ensure the stability of production processes. Analysis and forecasting of dough parameters will improve the quality of produced bread or other bakery products. Management based also on the predicted values of technological indicators of the predough will allow the enterprise to avoid unnecessary costs of materials and energy and increase economic efficiency. As part of the study, seven machine learning models were created and reviewed, including three linear and four varieties of binary decision trees. An analysis of the best model - a regression decision tree - was carried out, confirming its effectiveness and the validity of the resulting hierarchical structure, in particular, the prediction of important indicators of predough with a high degree of reliability, which indicates its importance in practical applications in production. The created model can be used to monitor and control product quality in real time, allowing operators to quickly identify and correct any deviations in process performance. Also, by analyzing changes in the variables of the predough production process, it is possible to identify precursors of possible production accidents or deviations in product quality, which will allow timely measures to be taken to avoid them. ©2024 IEEE.

Optimal input design plays an important role in system identification for complex and multivariable systems. A known paradox in input design is that the optimal inputs depend on the true but unknown system. The aim of this paper is to design inputs for multivariable systems that are robust to all system variations within a given continuous uncertainty set. In the presented approach, the robust design problem is cast as an infinite-dimensional min-max optimization problem, and tackled via the S-lemma in an iterative approximation scheme. Experimental results from a multivariable motion system show that the algorithm enables significant robustness improvements. © 2023 IEEE.
