We present the results of a community detection analysis of the Wikipedia graph. Distinct communities in Wikipedia contain semantically closely related articles. The central topic of a community can be identified using PageRank. Extracted communities can be organized hierarchically similar to manually created Wikipedia category structure. In this paper, a method of high order IIR filter design is proposed in which the coefficients in the canonical binary number system representation are searched by the simulated annealing algorithm. The high-quality IIR filters are designed using the all-pass filter stages, methods of masking filters and multiplied delays. It was proven, that if the coefficients of the multiplierless filter have no more than three summands in their representation, then its pipelined implementation in FPGA has the highest clock frequency. The use of the VHDL language in all the steps of the filter design helps to speed-up and improve the filter optimization. © 2020 IEEE.

We consider a population based Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm and a few modifications to increase quality of optimization. Several strategies are investigated to exchange data between processors in parallel algorithm. Experimental investigation is performed on Multiple Gravity Assist problem. Breakthrough-quality scientific discoveries in the new millennium (such as those expected in computation biology and others), along with optimal engineering designs, have created a demand for High-End Computing (HEC) systems with sustained performance requirements at a petaflop scale and beyond. Despite the very pessimistic (if not negative) views on parallel computing systems that have prevailed in 1990s, there seems to be no other viable alternatives for such HEC systems. In this talk, we present a fresh look at the problems facing the design of petascale parallel computing systems. We review several fundamental issues that such HEC parallel computing systems must resolve. These issues include: execution models that support dynamic and adaptive multithreading, fine-grain synchronization, and global name-space and memory consistency. Related issues in parallel programming, dynamic compilation models, and system software design will also be discussed. Present solutions and future direction will be discussed based on (1) application demand (e.g. computation biology and others), (2) the recent trend as demonstrated by the HTMT, HPCS, and the Blue-Gene Cyclops (e.g. Cyclops-64) architectures, and (3) a historical perspective on influential models such as dataflow, along with concepts learned from these models.

The application of computational intelligence in condition-based maintenance and diagnosis plays a leading role in the technology development of intelligent manufacturing systems. Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) is mostly used in designing the real time application having the decision support capability. In this study implementation of fuzzy logic in the CBR systems that deriving effective knowledge representation schemes has been described. The benefits of the approach have been presented. Despite the availability of video-on-demand (VoD) services in a number of cities around the world, the large-scale deployment of VoD services has not been widely explored due to economic constraints. The high complexity founded in these systems makes the design process very difficult. This study presents a VoD system design for a high-speed metropolitan network, based on ATM technology, located in Brazil. To accomplish this goal, we have utilized our own simulation-based tool for VoD design called VODSim. This tool allows VoD research on any VoD platform, simulating the complete flow path followed by requests from clients to servers passing through the network infrastructure, allowing the configuration and tuning of multiple system parameters. Using VODSim, we analyse possible VoD architectures for the proposal environment (i.e. Centralized-server, Independent-servers, One-level-proxies and Distributed-servers), studying key-parameters that have influence in system design. Experimental results show that Distributed-server architecture is the one that adjusts better to the analyzed infrastructure, improving streaming capacity by 16%, 25% and 28% more than One-level-proxies, Centralized and Independent-servers respectively. Taking in account future growth in VoD system, the Distributed-server even provides an unlimited scalability through new local network incorporation and using P2P techniques. © 2006 IEEE.

Convergence of the emerging IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) includes unlicensed, nondedicated and nondeterministic, hence uncontrollable, computer access networks for IP multimedia services. It enables provision of resource demanding real-time services and multimedia communication raising new end-to-end Quality-of-Service (QoS) challenges, for which quality adaptation using resource management is proposed as a solution in this paper. This is an integrated solution taking both IMS and computer access networks into account as well as the two end-devices and the application servers (AS) involved in communication. The best user experience is targeted under real-time variation of available network (e.g. bandwidth, buffer space) and end-device (e.g. battery, CPU, memory, storage) resources throughout a session. The multimedia content is dynamically adapted to fit the resource availability variations, achieving maximum system (i.e. network and end-devices) resource utilization and enhanced QoS. The resource availability update signalling is carried over Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) during the session. This is work in progress. © 2007 IEEE.

With the fast development of highly integrated distributed systems (cluster systems), especially those encapsulated within a single platform [28, 9], designers have to face interesting memory hierarchy design choices that attempt to avoid disk storage swapping. Disk swapping activities slow down application execution drastically. Leveraging remote free memory through Memory Collaboration has demonstrated its cost-effectiveness compared to overprovisioning for peak load requirements. Recent studies propose several ways on accessing the under-utilized remote memory in static system configurations, without detailed exploration on the dynamic memory collaboration. Dynamic collaboration is an important aspect given the run-time memory usage fluctuations in clustered systems. In this paper, we propose an Autonomous Collaborative Memory system (ACMS) that manages memory resources dynamically at run time, to optimize performance, and provide QoS measures for nodes engaging in the system. We implement a prototype realizing the proposed ACMS, experiment with a wide range of real-world applications, and show up to 3x performance speedup compared to a non collaborative memory system, without perceivable performance impact on nodes that provide memory. Based on our experiments, we conduct detailed analysis on the remote memory access overhead and provide insights for future optimizations. Copyright 2012 ACM.

The article is devoted to the development of means for recognition of the emotions of the speaker, based on the neural network analysis of fixed fragments of the voice signal. The possibility of improving recognition tools through the use of a convolutional neural network of the GoogLeNet type is shown. The expediency of training the network on the examples of the TESS database is determined. A procedure for representing a voice signal in the form of a square grayscale image has been developed. Based on the use of the specified database, the modification of the GoogLeNet network was carried out. The architecture and software implementation of the recognition module have been developed. With the help of computer experiments, it has been established that after 150 epochs of training on a fairly limited training sample, the modified GoogLeNet makes it possible to achieve an accuracy of recognition of the speaker's emotions of approximately 0.97 on test examples. The obtained accuracy is comparable to the accuracy of the best modern systems of this purpose and confirms the promise of using neural network models like GoogLeNet for emotion recognition based on voice signal analysis. The need for further research aimed at reducing the resource intensity of the neural network model is shown. © 2022 IEEE.

Regarding the increasing number of applications provided as external services, the importance of pseudonymous data as a means for privacy protection of user entities is growing. Along with it grows the relevance of secure and accurate generation, use and management of pseudonyms. In particular we consider the involvement of third parties in this process as potentially harmful, and therefore favor a decentralized pseudonym generation approach where the role of central components is reduced to a minimum. In this paper, we propose a pseudonym generation mechanism and focus on its implementation based on elliptic curve cryptography, in which every user entity can generate an arbitrary number of uncorrelatable pseudonyms with minimal effort, initially as well as at any later point in time. Because no sensitive information necessary for pseudonym generation is available on central components, our approach provides security as well as flexibility and usability. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
