The present paper introduces a comparative analysis of the management of a stochastic optimization problem using both a risk deterministic approach and a support vector machine strategy. This optimization problem is formulated in consideration of the influence produced by environmental factors, such as irradiance and temperature, on a photovoltaic panel. The problem will be solved by applying both methods to determine the Maximum Power Point (MPP), thereby to enhance the power generation efficiency. The primary objective is to conduct an analysis comparing the two approaches, with the aim of recommending the most suitable approach for Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT). © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. This paper considers the circuit method for neutralizing the effect of parasitic components of the collector load in silicon-germanium (SiGe) and silicon-on-insulator (SOI) classical cascade amplifiers and common-base stages on their voltage gain (Gain). The article demonstrates that the incorporation of a dedicated compensating circuit into the original circuits enables the enhancement of their upper frequency limit or gain by a factor of 5 to 10. The conditions for mitigating the impact of resistor parasites, which contribute to losses in planar inductance, on the Q-factor of the RLC-circuit of the selective amplifier are established. It is recommended that the proposed circuit solutions be employed in practical applications involving SiGe and SOI analog chips operating at elevated temperatures. © 2024 IEEE.

Sleep apnoea is a common sleep disorder during human sleep. It is usually diagnosed by a doctor after recording one nights' sleep signals. Patients have to go to the hospital to record sleep signals, which is time-consuming and resource-intensive. The study focused on two signals, pulse data and oximetry data, with the aim of detecting apnoea using a single signal. This paper introduced an anomaly detection approach using the adaptive cumulative sum (ACUSUM) change point detection algorithm to monitor outliers in the signal. In addition, the test results of ACUSUM will be compared with the test results of classical CUSUM. Besides, the threshold selection has been changed from an unchanging constant to a value related to the standard deviation of the selected signal based on a rational subgroup process. The results of the comparison confirm that ACUSUM is better than classical CUSUM in the accuracy of automatic detection. © 2023 IEEE.

Electroencephalography (EEG) is one of the most popular techniques to investigate normal as well as pathological cerebral mechanisms, as it allows to measure, non-invasively and in real-time, the brain activity. However, modeling EEG is still extremely challenging, because of its high-dimensionality, low signal-to-noise ratio, and high individual variability. This paper proposes a novel latent representation to study brain networks using EEG by means of a robust dynamic factor analysis (RDFA) approach. We investigate the ability of this latent representation to discriminate between two groups of subjects, i.e. alcoholic and healthy. By RDFA, we can extract a limited number of highly explanatory factors, as low as 8, significantly discriminating between the two groups. Also, we show that different brain patterns can be identified across different stimulation scenarios and EEG locations. Although preliminary, this work could give support to domain experts while providing some clinically-meaningful insights to identify common patterns as well as individual characteristics in different groups of healthy and pathological subjects.

In recent years, and especially during the on-going pandemic, the interest in investigating the dynamics of infodemics has increased to unprecedented levels. In this study we propose an agent-based model for the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and other similar information. The model is based on the susceptible-infected-recovered-susceptible epidemic interpretation. We introduce a rule-based reasoning module to model individual bias in the perception of information based on the psychology concept of illusion of knowledge. We integrate this module into a deliberative-reactive agent controller structure and a decentralized control scheme for the multi-agent system. Results show significant differences between the outputs of the proposed model and the classical version, impressing on the effects of considering local agent individuality when modeling human psycho-social interactions. © 2023 IEEE.

The purpose of the work is to investigate the possibilities of soft-start devices with gate turn-off thyristors in electric drives of bow thrusters with adjustable propeller pitch to increase reliability, reduce mechanical shocks and currents, and improve electromagnetic compatibility with the ship's electrical power plant. The characteristic features of these drives are operation on fan load and the need for a smooth start in a sufficiently short time to reduce impact torque in the mechanism. As a result of the analysis, a solution with a shunt capacitor is proposed, which provides high accuracy of regulation of the 1st harmonic of the voltage on the motor according to the given law. The minimum value of the capacitor capacity was found, which for the ABB/AMD710L8T motor with a capacity of 2.7 MW is 150-250 μF at switching frequencies from 500 to 1000 Hz. For the first time, the dependences of the GTO switching frequency on the capacitor capacity and the coefficient of harmonic distortion of the current in the stator phase of the selected motor were found. Frequencies are obtained that correspond to the actual physical characteristics of the GTO (500-1000 Hz). At such switching frequencies, the characteristics of the soft start device practically do not differ from the ideal regulator of the phase voltage of an asynchronous motor. This makes it possible to synthesize closed systems with stabilization of the main coordinates of soft starter electric drive, two-circuit systems with the formation of a given tachogram with torque limitation. All this makes it feasible to implement soft start devices based on gate turn-off thyristors. © 2023 IEEE.

System identification (SysID) is the art and science of dealing with dynamic data modelling problems from systems science perspectives. It has been an active field and is still very active today, due to its wide range of applications, especially its basic principles of finding transparent, interpretable and parsimonious models for different purposes. The past decades have witnessed the explosive growth in machine learning (ML) and its applications in all areas of science and engineering. Meanwhile, there has been an increasing demand for the development of transparent, explainable and/or interpretable ML models. This paper proposes a new framework for developing System Identification-informed Transparent and Explainable MAchine Learning (SITEMAL) models. A case study, involving a real power consumption dataset, is presented to demonstrate the application of the proposed modelling framework and its performance for power consumption forecasting.

It has been revealed that in the conditions of small-scale production of discrete-analog filters on switched capacitors and ADC-drivers, it is most advisable to design high-speed operational amplifiers (OAs) based on the CBJT technological route and the MH2XA031 array chip, which allows operation in conditions of low temperatures and exposure to radiation. It has been established that most commercially produced $O A s$ provide an average value of the slew rate (SR, up to $200 \div 300 \mathrm{~V} / \mu \mathrm{s}$). This is largely due to the limitations of the technologies used, and most importantly, to the irrational design of circuits. We study the maximum performance parameters of a CBJT OA with one integrating capacitor, which ensures the stability of the $O A$, and a differentiating transient correction circuit, which is implemented by connecting additional small capacitors to the original circuit. In this case, the $S R$ of the $O A$ increases by more than 500 times (up to $4000 \mathrm{~V} / \mu \mathrm{s}$).

Tube-based coalitional MPC with plug-and-play features

This paper presents a distributed setting of model predictive control (MPC) to manage linear multi-agent systems consisting of coupled subsystems. Specifically, local controllers can work in coalitions to improve performance and handle plug-and-play events. This study provides insight into a coalitional MPC strategy based on optimized tubes that handles plug-in and plug-out subsystems. Moreover, we explore an inherent robustness gap to absorb disturbances not covered by the tubes without having to group local controllers. A comparison of our approach with centralized and decentralized MPC is reported using an illustrative example.

This paper presents a signal processing framework for automatic anxiety level classification in a virtual reality exposure therapy system. Two types of biophysical data (heart rate and electrodermal activity) were recorded, pre-processed and passed through a feature extraction procedure that provided input for the real-time anxiety level classification algorithm. We showcase the mathematical and engineering techniques behind the procedures and conclude with the challenges encountered in our research and future development ideas. The proposed method provides a good estimate of the level of anxiety while having at the same time a reduced level of complexity, allowing implementation on equipment with limited computing resources. © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest.
