Artificial intelligence (AI) breakthroughs have created new opportunities in the field of medical diagnostics, especially for the early identification of respiratory conditions like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), the most prevalent respiratory condition, is characterized by breathing difficulties, mucus (sputum) coughing, and wheezing. Early verification is critical for efficient administration. A one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D CNN) model for COPD detection, optimized using Adam and RMSprop algorithms is proposed for this purpose. Utilizing the ICBHI 2017 dataset, the performance of each optimizer based on training and validation accuracy is evaluated. The Adam optimizer achieved a training accuracy of 9 4% and a validation accuracy of 9 0%. In comparison, the RMSprop optimizer yielded a training accuracy of 9 2% and a validation accuracy of 8 8%. These results demonstrated that the Adam optimizer surpassed RMSprop in terms of accuracy. It showcased the potential of the proposed 1D CNN model as a reliable diagnostic tool, contributing to the advancement of respiratory health analytics. © 2024 IEEE.

Qualitative approach for automated grading and quality assessment of fruits, machine learning techniques are crucial in agricultural applications. Automation enhances a nation's agricultural quality, production, and economic prosperity. Fruit quality grading, particularly the surface fault identification of a fruit, is a crucial indicator in the export market. This is particularly important for mangoes, which are quite well-liked inBangladesh. On the other hand, the physical grading of mangoes is a procedure that is labor-intensive, prone to error, and very subjective. In this paper, we proposed a YOLOv7 integrated Discrete wave transformation computer vision system. The proposed model includes support vector machine (SVM) and decision tree for the classification of high-quality mangoes. The results of the experiments show that the proposed solution obtained 96.25% accuracy when the system was trained and tested using a publicly accessible mango database. © 2023 IEEE.

The project 'Enhancing Dietary Monitoring Using Deep Learning:Food Recognition And Calorie Estimation' introduces an innovative method aimed at improving dietary tracking and fostering healthier eating habits. By employing cutting-edge deep learning techniques, its core objective is to precisely identify various food items and rapidly estimate their caloric content, offering users advanced and personalized monitoring capabilities. Utilizing the Python programming language alongside the MobileNet architecture model, the project underwent rigorous training and evaluation using the expansive Food 101 dataset, comprising 37,046 food images distributed across 101 distinct classes. Notably, the model demonstrated exceptional performance, achieving a training accuracy of 97.02% and a validation accuracy of 98.17%, highlighting the efficacy of this approach in accurately categorizing a wide array of food items. This system provides users with several crucial functionalities. Furthermore, it furnishes users with essential insights by estimating the caloric content of recognized foods, facilitating effective monitoring of dietary intake. In this paper, an investigation into the application of Theta-λ optimization strategies to improve network performance is made in a challenging wireless communication systems environment subject both Rician fading and multi-user interference (MUI). This paper discusses the dynamic adjustments of Theta (angle-of-arrival) and λ parameters necessary to balance system resiliency against high throughput. We did some simulations to test the performance in terms of latency, throughput as well as accuracy using values such frequency stability and jitter. The results show strong enhancements after the optimization - latency: from a mean of 20 ms to stabilizing at 15ms, throughput: dramatically enhanced from existing baseline of around ~50 to 100 Mbps with enhancement between ~70-120Mbps while maintaining range and jitter reduction halved as average jitter is now less than two milliseconds compared previous Jitter at an optimal value. This had the added benefit of improvements in frequency stability: now, instead of hovering around 2.4 GHz like when we first tested it out-of-the-box, average was up to 2.5 GHz after optimization as well! The results of this study illustrate the potential for enhanced network reliability and availability through fading and interferer mitigation using Theta-λ optimization. This case study is representative of the relevance for real-time adaptive optimization techniques in current-day telecommunications given surging demands on resilient wireless connectivity. Further research directions include enhancement of the optimization algorithms depending on specific network conditions and integration with adaptive strategies for real-time delivery using QoE-oriented mechanisms. © 2025 IEEE.

Kindergarten education has a very important role in shaping the foundation of child development. For parents, see reports on the achievement of children's development at school through the results of each semester's assessment. The process of preparing teacher assessments uses 4 types of assessments, one of which is anecdotal record assessment. However, teachers experience problems in analyzing the topics in children's anecdotal notes so that the results become less clear. In addition, it is still done manually so it takes a long time to analyze. Assessment of children's anecdotal notes is an assessment in the form of a record of events that occur to children while at school. Anecdotal notes are in the form of text data, therefore this research aims to find out the topics in children's anecdotal notes data by utilizing topic modeling using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) method. The children's anecdotal notes data is used as one dataset with a total of 276 collected directly from YBPK Sidorejo Kindergarten, after which data preprocessing is carried out in the form of case folding, remove punctuation, tokenizing, stopwords, and stemming. In the LDA topic modeling research using the Gensim library, 5 experiments were carried out by determining the number of different iterations, and displaying a range of 2-10 topics for each experiment. Analysis and evaluation using coherence score to determine the optimal number of topics by looking at the highest coherence score value in the experiment conducted. The analysis results in 3 topics with a coherence score of 0.4704 and 40 iterations or passes. © 2024 IEEE.

MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging is one of the frequently employed imaging modalities for brain anomaly detection. MRI produces a massive quantity of data, which includes a consecutive set of scans taken at several time instants. Since the existence of brain anomalies that exists examined on every MR sequence, manual brain anomaly detection necessitates anatomical knowledge, costly, laborious, and inaccurate due to human error. Automatic brain anomaly segmentation from 3D Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) is essential to perform proper diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment planning of the disease. However, owing to the structural difficulties such as hazy boundaries with uneven shapes, precise 3D brain tumor demarcation is interesting. With the recent developments of Deep Learning (DL) models, this research study reviews the recent brain anomaly detection and classification models based on DL approach with 3D MRI data. The existing techniques related to brain tumor segmentation, classification, and validations are reviewed. Every reviewed technique is investigated based on the aim, underlying technique used, dataset, and evaluation parameters. Besides, a comparison table is provided by summarizing the reviewed techniques under several aspects. Finally, a quick analysis of the evaluated techniques' results is conducted to gauge their effectiveness. © 2024 IEEE.

In mobile ground-to-air (GA) propagation channels, the birth and death of multipath components (MPCs) are frequently observed, and the wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) assumption does not always hold. Several methods exist for tracking the birth and death of MPCs, however, to the best of knowledge of authors, there is no existing literature that addresses the prediction of the lifespan of the MPCs in non-WSSUS GA propagation channels. In this work, we consider the GA channel as non-WSSUS and individual MPCs across receiver positions are represented as time series based on the Euclidean distance between channel parameters of the MPCs. These time series representations, referred to as path bins, are analyzed using a semi-Markov chain model. The channel parameter variations and dependencies between path bins are used to predict the lifespan of path bins using weighted sum method, machine learning classifiers, and deep neural networks. For comparison, the birth and death of path bins are also modeled using a Poisson distribution and a Markov chain. Simulation results demonstrate that deep neural networks offer highly accurate predictions for the lifespan (including death) of MPC path bins in the considered GA propagation scenario. © 2025 IEEE.

Strategic facility & space planning utilising Design for Lean Six Sigma

This study aims to develop and implement a Strategic Facility Planning process at a highly regulated manufacturing site to optimise manufacturing space and capacity in a facility running out of space. The project demonstrates the application of Design for Lean Six Sigma and a structured Define, Measure, Analyse, Design, and Verify methodology in designing and implementing a process that enables the case study manufacturing site to improve its space utilisation and free up space. The project resulted in increased space usage of approx. 38000 sq. ft. equating to a hard cost saving of over $13 million for the organisation and a cost avoidance of $22 million. The study’s contribution is that it highlights for the first time that the Design for Lean Six Sigma methodology can be utilised for space and facility utilisation and can be leveraged by other manufacturers. This study has academic and managerial implications for identifying best practices for Design for Lean Six Sigma methodology application in Strategic facility planning. This study contributes to the few academic published works to utilise Design for Lean Six Sigma methodology for space utilisation in a highly regulated environment. This study will contribute to managerial practice in aiding other manufacturing organisations with recommendations on utilising Design for Lean Six Sigma and design for improved space utilisation to reduce costs. © 2023 The Author(s). Buildings are significant contributors to global energy consumption. Maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures while reducing energy consumption are conflicting objectives. Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) is a promising area of research for building Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system optimization. In this study an open-source framework Building Optimization Testing Framework (BOPTEST), which is a virtual testbed that help comparison different control strategies for evaluation of DRL control methods is used. A Proportional-Integral (PI) controller is used to benchmark the DRL methods. A single zone residential building of 192 m² with a radial heating system and a heat pump in a climate zone with high heating requirement with dynamic electricity prices with prices varying every 15 min based on demand is chosen for implementing different control strategies. On comparing Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG), Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) and Twin Delay DDPG (TD3) based DRL controllers and the baseline controller, the DDPG based controller reduced energy consumption by 97.3 % and operating cost by 17.7 % during the peak heating period with reference to baseline method. Then on analyzing the impact of inclusion of forecast parameters occupancy, solar irradiance, and electricity prices over the period 3, 6 and 12 hours in DDPG based controller. The prediction for 3 hours gave the greatest reduction in thermal discomfort of 99.7 % and prediction for 12 hours gave maximum reduction in cost by 30.4 % but resulted in only 82% reduction in thermal comfort when compared with baseline method indicating that longer prediction horizon is not necessarily results in better performance. © 2025 IEEE.

Spam email detection is crucial for cybersecurity, as it protects user privacy and reduces security risks. The persistent presence of spammers necessitates continuous improvements in spam filtering measures. To address this challenge, this study employs Grid Search Optimizer to fine-tune the parameters of four distinct classifiers: Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest, Naive Bayes, and XGBoost. Soft Voting serves as the final classifier, enhancing overall accuracy by integrating results from optimized classifiers to detect and classify spam emails across the Spam Mails Dataset and Enron1 Dataset. The experimental study compared the proposed model with relevant works and found that hyperparameter tuning and Soft Voting significantly enhanced its performance compared to existing approaches. The proposed ensemble model outperformed individual classifiers, achieving accuracies of 99.32% and 99.12%, respectively. Also, the ensemble model demonstrated an AUC of 1.00 on both datasets, indicating its effectiveness in distinguishing between spam and ham emails. This approach surpasses prior studies in accuracy, generalization, and robustness by innovatively combining Grid Search and Soft Voting. The constructed model exhibits high effectiveness and efficiency in the detection of spam emails. © 2024 IEEE.
