Recent developments in sensor technology have enabled real-time data acquisition, high-frequency and multimodal data capturing thus underlying the need for monitoring physical or operational conditions in various aspects of the data. High dimensionality and volume of the data poses significant statistical challenges creating a need for accurate concept drift detection and prompt responses, a task that can be performed either by an algorithm or by human expert. Visual analytics plays a crucial role in concept drift detection by enabling analysts to visually explore, analyze, and interpret complex data streams, facilitating real-time monitoring, decision-making, and communication with stakeholders. This paper examines the usability of radar graphs for concept drift exploration, as well as their usage in other steps of analysis. For the purpose of demonstration, a pipeline for real-time health data analysis is presented and steps are visualized using radar graphs. © 2024 IEEE.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) faces significant challenges in mitigating Attacks known as denial of service (DoS) and distributed DDoS due to its centralized control plane architecture. This centralization makes the control plane an attractive target for attackers, highlighting the need for effective detection and mitigation strategies. In this study, we propose three innovative methodologies to enhance the accuracy of detecting DoS/DDoS attacks in SDN environments. Our first methodology employs an ensemble model with a voting classifier, which achieves a detection accuracy of 97.4%. This approach leverages multiple weak learners to enhance the robustness of detection. The second methodology utilizes an ensemble with a stacking technique, attaining a superior accuracy of 99%, demonstrating the efficacy of integrating multiple base models in a hierarchical fashion. The third approach introduces a novel hybrid model that blends LSTM networks with CNN, achieving a competitive accuracy of 98.51%. A comparative analysis of these methods reveals that, while all three significantly enhance detection rates, the stacking ensemble technique outperforms the others. This finding underscores the potential of advanced ensemble techniques in effectively addressing the dynamic and evolving cyber threats within SDN environments. Our study offers valuable insights into strengthening SDN infrastructures against DoS/DDoS attacks, contributing to the ongoing efforts to secure modern network architectures. © 2024 IEEE.

Energy consumption due to massive use of data center (DC) is increasing rapidly. The need to improve the energy efficiency of such DC aims to develop an effective DC-placement algorithm. Again, a sudden disaster in the network can affect both fiber path as well as the DC nodes resulting in fiber cuts and huge data loss. Space division multiplexing-based elastic optical network (SDM-EON), being more efficient than the traditional elastic optical network (EON) due to the inclusion of multiple cores in a single fiber link, tries to maximize the utilization of resources by reducing blocking probability. This paper presents a novel DC-placement algorithm in dynamic DC-based SDM-EONs which focuses on enhancing energy efficiency in the network, thereby ensuring the survivability of the network against any sudden disaster. Rigorous simulation analysis proves the efficacy of the proposed algorithm over other existing algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

Urban heat islands raise surface temperatures, which has an effect on city dwellers’ health and welfare. Urbanisation-related changes to the land surface, which are especially notable right after sunset, have an impact on radiative forcing. Recently, there has been a surge in the usage of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, particularly for precision agriculture and plant phenotyping. This is due to the declining cost and increased accessibility of both UAVs and thermal imaging sensors. This interruption affects subsequent operations like target item categorisation and water quality parameter inversion. The goal of this study was to evaluate the potential for combining machine learning (ML) with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)–based imaging technology. In this research, the novel technique in UAV image–based temperature pattern detection of various regions of earth and their sea level rise analysis using image classification by machine learning model. Here, the input is collected as UAV images which have been processed for noise removal and normalisation. These image features have been extracted using convolutional active contour–based kernel component analysis and classified using region-based fuzzy stacked lasso elastic-net model. The classified output shows temperature analysis with sea level rise based on image analysis. The experimental analysis has been carried out for various UAV image dataset in terms of detection accuracy, RMSE, F-measure, mean average precision (MAP), and recall. Proposed technique F-measure of 89%, detection accuracy of 96%, MAP of 94%, recall of 92%, and RMSE of 60%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
