Scene graph generation takes an image and derives a graph representation of key objects in the image and their relations. This core computer vision task is often used in autonomous driving, where traditional software and machine learning (ML) components are used in tandem. However, in such a safety-critical context, valid scene graphs can be further restricted by consistency constraints captured by domain or safety experts. Existing ML approaches for scene graph generation focus exclusively on relation-level accuracy but provide little to no guarantee that consistency constraints are satisfied in the generated scene graphs. In this paper, we aim to complement existing ML-based approaches by a post-processing step using constraint optimization over probabilistic scene graphs that can (1) guarantee that no consistency constraints are violated and (2) improve the overall accuracy of scene graph generation by fixing constraint violations. We evaluate the effectiveness of our approach using well-known, and novel metrics in the context of two popular ML datasets augmented with consistency constraints and two ML-based scene graph generation approaches as baselines.

computer systems hosting critical e-commerce applications must typically satisfy stringent quality-of-service (QoS) requirements under dynamic operating conditions and workloads. Also, as such systems increase in size and complexity, maintaining the desired QoS by manually tuning the numerous performance-related parameters will become very difficult. This paper addresses the design of self-optimizing computer systems using a generic online control framework in which the control actions governing the operation of the system are obtained by optimizing its behavior, as forecast by a mathematical model, over a limited time horizon. As a specific application of this control technique, we show how to minimize the power consumed by a processor while satisfying the QoS requirements of a time-varying workload. We describe the processor model, formulate the power management problem, and derive the online control algorithm. The performance of the controller is evaluated using representative e-commerce workloads. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

In the problem of private "swarm" computing, n agents wish to securely and distributively perform a computation on common inputs, in such a way that even if the entire memory contents of some of them are exposed, no information is revealed about the state of the computation. Recently, Dolev, Garay, Gilboa and Kolesnikov [ICS 2011] considered this problem in the setting of information-theoretic security, showing how to perform such computations on input streams of unbounded length. The cost of their solution, however, is exponential in the size of the Finite State Automaton (FSA) computing the function. In this work we are interested in efficient (i.e., polynomial time) computation in the above model, at the expense of minimal additional assumptions. Relying on the existence of one-way functions, we show how to process unbounded inputs (but of course, polynomial in the security parameter) at a cost linear in m, the number of FSA states. In particular, our algorithms achieve the following: - In the case of (n,n)-reconstruction (i.e., in which all n agents participate in the reconstruction of the distributed computation) and at most n - 1 agents are corrupted, the agent storage, the time required to process each input symbol, and the time complexity for reconstruction are all O(mn). - In the case of (n - t,n)-reconstruction (where only n - t agents take part in the reconstruction) and at most t agents are corrupted, the agents' storage and time required to process each input symbol are O(m( n-tn-1)). The complexity of reconstruction is O(mt). We achieve the above through a carefully orchestrated use of pseudo-random generators and secret-sharing, and in particular a novel share re-randomization technique which might be of independent interest. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Low bit rate video coding has triggered intensive research in both academia and industry. To address the problem of heterogeneity, and meeting a very small bandwidth of mobile wireless networks, low bit rate scalable video compression is becoming more important. This paper discusses the current approach to wireless visual communications for the need of low bit rate scalable video compression, using discrete wavelet transform techniques. The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) has provided an efficient framework of multiresolution space-frequency representation with promising applications in image processing. This codec is based on 3D wavelet coding and adaptive quantization of the subbands coefficients. A common problem with some existing quantization methods is that the inherent image structures are severely distorted with course quantization. The Moving Picture Expert Group-4 (MPEG-4), an important component of the ITU standard is referred to as the benchmark of video standards for low bit rate video transmission.
