Comprehensive insights into electrical properties enhancement of boron‑sulfur co-doped diamond via ion implantation: First principles calculation and experimental validation

Diamond presents great potential for applications as high‑temperature and high-power electronic devices as a new generation of semiconductor material. However, the inherent low electrical conductivity limits diamond applications. This study aims to reveal the conductive mechanism of boron (B)‑sulfur (S) co-doped diamond for conductivity enhancement with density-functional theory (DFT) calculations and ion implantation experiments. Firstly, the effects of B-S co-doping on diamond's electrical properties are investigated by analyzing the band structure and electron transport at different doping ratios using DFT. Secondly, Precision doping into single-crystal diamond is achieved via ion implantation, followed by annealing to remove lattice defects. Thirdly, the lattice integrity after doping is assessed by Raman spectroscopy, the chemical compositions and bonding states are analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and the electrical properties of the co-doped diamonds are evaluated by Hall effect measurements. First-principles calculations show that B-S co-doping also generates additional acceptor and donor energy levels that couple, leading to more uniformly distributed impurity levels, a narrower band gap, altered electron transitions, and coupling in specific orbitals. These modifications imply that a B:S co-doping ratio of 1:2 may be favorable for enhanced carrier activation and improved electrical transport behavior. Based on first-principles calculations and Hall effect experiments the optimal conductivity occurs at a B:S ratio of 1:2, which gives better conductivity compared to single doping or other ratios. These findings Preliminary provide complementary theoretical and experimental evidence supporting the modulation of electrical conductivity through B-S co-doping. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

The new so-called COVID-19 virus is unfortunately founded to be highly transmissible across the globe. In this study, we propose a novel approach for estimating the spread level of the virus for each country for three different dates between April and May 2020. Unlike previous studies, this investigation does not process any historical data of spread but rather relies on the socioeconomic indicators of each country. Actually, more than 1000 socio-economic indicators and more than 190 countries were processed in this study. Concretely, data preprocessing techniques and feature selection approaches were applied to extract relevant indicators for the classification process. Countries around the globe were assigned to 4 classes of spread. To find the class level of each country, many classifiers were proposed based especially on Support Vectors Machines (SVM), Multi-Layer Perceptrons (MLP) and Random Forests (RF). Obtained results show the relevance of our approach since many classifiers succeeded in capturing the spread level, especially the RF classifier, with an F-measure equal to 93.85% for April 15th, 2020. Moreover, a feature importance study is conducted to deduce the best indicators to build robust spread level classifiers. However, as pointed out in the discussion, classifiers may face some difficulties for future dates since the huge increase of cases and the lack of other relevant factors affecting this widespread. © 2020 IEEE.

UAVs as a service: Boosting edge intelligence for air-ground integrated networks

The air-ground integrated network is a key component of future sixth generation (6G) networks to support seamless and near-instant super-connectivity. There is a pressing need to intelligently provision various services in 6G networks, which however is challenging. To meet this need, in this article, we propose a novel architecture called UaaS (UAVs as a Service) for the air-ground integrated network, featuring UAV as a key enabler to boost edge intelligence with the help of machine learning (ML) techniques. We envision that the proposed UaaS architecture could intelligently provision wireless communication service, edge computing service, and edge caching service by a network of UAVs, making full use of UAVs’ flexible deployment and diverse ML techniques. We also conduct a case study where UAVs participate in the model training of distributed ML among multiple terrestrial users, whose result shows that the model training is efficient with a negligible energy consumption of UAVs, compared to the flight energy consumption. To prevent different chemicals from entering the brain, the blood-brain barrier penetrating peptide (3BPP) acts as a vital barrier between the bloodstream and the central nervous system (CNS). This barrier significantly hinders the treatment of neurological and CNS disorders. 3BPP can get beyond this barrier, making it easier to enter the brain and essential for treating CNS and neurological diseases and disorders. Computational techniques are being explored because traditional laboratory tests for 3BPP identification are costly and time-consuming. In this work, we introduced a novel technique for 3BPP prediction with a hybrid deep learning model. Our proposed model, Deep3BPP, leverages the LSA, a word embedding method for peptide sequence extraction, and integrates CNN with LSTM (CNN-LSTM) for the final prediction model. Deep3BPP performance metrics show a remarkable accuracy of 97.42%, a Kappa value of 0.9257, and an MCC of 0.9362. These findings indicate a more efficient and cost-effective method of identifying 3BPP, which has important implications for researchers in the pharmaceutical and medical industries. Thus, this work offers insightful information that can advance both scientific research and the well-being of people overall. © 2020 IEEE.

The pursuit-evasion game has been a classic research topic in the field of mobile robotics. Reinforcement learning (RL), which shows outstanding advantages in the decision-making area, is a widely used method in pursuitevasion game. This paper proposes a hierarchical framework in which RL allows the pursuer to select an appropriate strategy for the current condition in the upper level from multiple underlying strategies in the lower level. Through the analysis of existing motion planning algorithms, the dynamic window approach (DWA) and the proportional guidance method (PG) are used as the lower level strategies of the framework. Individual discussions on the merits and limitations of the two motion planning algorithms indicate a possible complementarity between them. Simulations are carried out and the corresponding results validate the excellent performance of the proposed approach.

In this paper, we demonstrate a new dataflow platform of DFC, which can handle the successive dataflow computing passes with tagged data. By implementing the matrix multiplication in DFC, we show that DFC can exploit the parallelism automatically with a much simple dataflow graph constructed by DF functions of DFC. Different from the other dataflow execution platform, DFC support multiple worker threads for one dataflow node of DF functions. By running the matrix multiplication program of DFC on Kunlun system, it was verified that DFC get a reasonable speedup for large scale computing for thread number up to 512. © 2019 IEEE.

Context: Contemporary software development is typically conducted in dynamic, resource-scarce environments that are prone to the accumulation of technical debt. While this general phenomenon is acknowledged, what remains unknown is how technical debt specifically manifests in and affects software processes, and how the software development techniques employed accommodate or mitigate the presence of this debt. Objectives: We sought to draw on practitioner insights and experiences in order to classify the effects of agile method use on technical debt management, given the popularity and perceived success of agile methods. We explore the breadth of practitioners' knowledge about technical debt;how technical debt is manifested across the software process;and the perceived effects of common agile software development practices and processes on technical debt. In doing so, we address a research gap in technical debt knowledge and provide novel and actionable managerial recommendations. Method: We designed, tested and executed a multi-national survey questionnaire to address our objectives, receiving 184 responses from practitioners in Brazil, Finland, and New Zealand. Results: Our findings indicate that: 1) Practitioners are aware of technical debt, although, there was under utilization of the concept, 2) Technical debt commonly resides in legacy systems, however, concrete instances of technical debt are hard to conceptualize which makes it problematic to manage, 3) Queried agile practices and processes help to reduce technical debt;in particular, techniques that verify and maintain the structure and clarity of implemented artifacts (e.g., Coding standards and Refactoring) positively affect technical debt management. Conclusions: The fact that technical debt instances tend to have characteristics in common means that a systematic approach to its management is feasible. Quantum processors have the potential to accelerate specific computing tasks but are difficult to scale up due to engineering limitations, such as the number of available cables and cooling power for dilution refrigerators for quantum bits (qubits). Hence, it is very important to develop scalable, energy-efficient interface circuits that can control many qubits via a few control lines inside a dilution refrigerator. One of the most important interface circuits is the flux controller (FC), which generates arbitrary dc flux bias to adjust the characteristics of component devices such as qubits. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate FCs using an energy-efficient superconductor logic family, adiabatic quantum-flux-parametron (AQFP) logic. We develop two types of FCs: the AQFP FC and the AQFP/single-flux-quantum (AQFP/SFQ) FC. Both FCs require only a few control lines and have extremely small power dissipation, thus exhibiting high scalability. Furthermore, the AQFP/SFQ FC can control flux bias using ballistic SFQ transmission, which is crucial for integration with qubits. As a proof of concept, we demonstrate AQFP and AQFP/SFQ FCs at 4.2 K, fabricated by the AIST high-speed standard process. Our results indicate that AQFP logic is highly suitable for use as qubit interface circuits for very large-scale quantum processors, especially from the viewpoint of the control line count, power dissipation, and amount of supply currents.

To boost energy saving for the general delay-tolerant IoT networks, a two-stage, and single-relay queueing communication scheme is investigated. Concretely, a traffic-aware $N$-threshold and gated-service policy are applied at the relay. As two fundamental and significant performance metrics, the mean waiting time and long-term expected power consumption are explicitly derived and related with the queueing and service parameters, such as packet arrival rate, service threshold and channel statistics. Besides, we take into account the electrical circuit energy consumptions when the relay server and access point (AP) are in different modes and energy costs for mode transitions, whereby the power consumption model is more practical. The expected power minimization problem under the mean waiting time constraint is formulated. Tight closed-form bounds are adopted to obtain tractable analytical formulae with less computational complexity. The optimal energy-saving service threshold that can flexibly adjust to packet arrival rate is determined. In addition, numerical results reveal that: 1) sacrificing the mean waiting time not necessarily facilitates power savings;2) a higher arrival rate leads to a greater optimal service threshold;and 3) our policy performs better than the current state-of-the-art. © 2020 IEEE.

Rail transportation, especially, high-speed rails (HSR), is an important infrastructure for the development of national economy and the promotion of passenger experience. Due to the large bandwidth, millimeter wave (mmWave) communication is regarded as a promising technology to meet the demand of high data rates. However, since mmWave communication has the characteristic of high attenuation, mobile relay (MR) is considered in this paper. Also, full-duplex (FD) communications have been proposed to improve the spectral efficiency. However, because of the high speed, as well as the problem of penetration loss, passengers on the train have a poor quality of service. Consequently, an effective user association scheme for HSR in mmWave band is necessary. In this paper, we investigate the user association optimization problem in mmWave mobile relay systems where the MRs operate in the FD mode. To maximize the system capacity, we propose a cooperative user association approach based on coalition formation game, and develop a coalition formation algorithm to solve the challenging NP-hard problem. We also prove the convergence and Nash-stable property of the proposed algorithm. Extensive simulations are done to show the system performance of the proposed scheme under various network settings. It is demonstrated that the proposed distributed low complexity scheme achieves a near-optimal performance and outperforms two baseline schemes in terms of average system throughput.
