Oracle Bone Inscriptions (OBI), as the oldest form of Chinese writing, bears the precious heritage of ancient Chinese civilization. Deciphering OBI has been a monumental challenge in archaeology and philology. However, the preservation method of OBI through rubbings faces significant challenges due to severe noise interference, adversely affecting the accuracy of OBI detection. Additionally, existing traditional object detection algorithms inadequately consider the unique characteristics of OBI, making it difficult to effectively identify Oracle characters on OBI rubbings. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel approach to OBI detection, Oracle Character Prototype-guided cyclic disentanglement for OBI detection. These features are amalgamated into distinct character structure prototypes by capturing shared character structure features among different Oracle characters. This approach highlights the distinctive forms of Oracle characters, enhancing feature clarity and recognition. The Oracle Character Prototypes enable the model to learn common features across different character forms, improving its adaptability to various Oracle character structures and enhancing its capability to handle complexity. Moreover, to mitigate the impact of noise on detection, we introduce a cyclic disentanglement method for Oracle Bone Inscriptions. This process, utilizing the Oracle Character Prototypes and contrastive loss as supervisory signals, cyclically decouples Oracle features, isolating information rich in character structure features. This effectively mitigates the influence of noise on OBI detection. Comprehensive evaluations were conducted, comparing our method with state-of-the-art object detection algorithms, validating its effectiveness both qualitatively and quantitatively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Automatic Repeat Request Design in AoI-Aware Broadcast With Heterogeneous Direct and Relay-Assisted Users

This paper investigates the design of automatic repeat request (ARQ) protocols in age of information (AoI)-aware broadcast systems with heterogeneous users, including both direct and relay-assisted users. In this setup, a direct user receives status updates directly via a single-hop link, while a relay-assisted user can receive status updates through either a direct single-hop link or a two-hop relay-assisted link. While ARQ is commonly used to ensure reliable transmission in error-prone wireless networks, previous studies suggest that ARQ does not improve the average AoI in single-hop networks. However, its impact on AoI in systems with relays, particularly those involving heterogeneous users, remains unclear. We address this gap by analyzing the average AoI under different ARQ strategies, introducing a transmission limit k ≥ 0 at the relay. Here, k = 0, k = 1, and k > 1 correspond to non-relay, non-ARQ-at-relay, and truncated-ARQ-at-relay strategies, respectively. Utilizing a unified Markov chain framework that models the transmission processes for each user type, we derive the theoretical average AoI. Our results show that the direct user benefits most from non-relay and non-ARQ strategies, similar to single-hop systems. In contrast, the relay-assisted user achieves optimal performance with truncated-ARQ-at-relay, leveraging both direct and relay-assisted links. For the overall system, applying a non-ARQ-at-relay approach strikes a balance in AoI between the direct and relay-assisted users, leading to a more stable and lower system-wide average AoI. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper introduces a novel edge device architecture designed to optimize solar energy management systems. It integrates cutting-edge functionalities such as generation prediction, maintenance alerts, and anomaly detection into a unified framework. Through the utilization of edge computing, the system enables real-time analysis and decision-making at the network’s edge. Leveraging machine learning algorithms and predictive models, these edge devices provide highly accurate energy generation forecasts, facilitating efficient energy utilization and strategic planning. Additionally, the architecture incorporates anomaly detection techniques to proactively identify deviations from normal operation, minimizing downtime and enabling timely maintenance interventions. The field of education is rapidly shifting toward digital platforms;however, aviation education continues to rely heavily on traditional paper-based manuals. This persistence is largely due to the inherent complexity, scale, and high costs associated with aviation equipment, making digital transformation particularly challenging. In this paper, we utilizing the analysis-by-synthesis method is presented for multi-view 3D reconstruction of solid objects, specifically focusing on aviation tools. To facilitate this research, a custom dataset was generated using Unity, enabling controlled experimentation and performance evaluation. Comparative analysis with existing benchmarks demonstrates that, despite the intricate nature of aviation tools compared to simpler objects, the proposed architecture effectively reconstructs detailed and accurate digital replicas. This advancement has the potential to enhance aviation education by providing immersive, interactive 3D content, thereby bridging the gap between traditional learning materials and modern digital education tools. © 2013 IEEE.

Ownership Verification for Federated Recommendation

Most federated learning-based recommender systems allow clients to access a well-trained high-quality model locally, which provides adversaries with the opportunity to infringe the legitimate copyright of the model. In response, we study an emerging and important problem, i.e., copyright protection of a federated recommendation model, which has not yet been addressed in the community of federated learning or recommender systems. We propose the first backdoor-based ownership verification scheme for federated recommendation (OVFR), which enables the server to claim its ownership for a given suspicious recommendation model. First, we propose to generate a trigger set tailored to recommendation scenarios. In particular, we generate some fake users and items, and then construct a set of fake users with fake interaction records as a trigger set. Moreover, we ensure that the distribution of the popularity of the fake items follows a long-tailed distribution for the effectiveness of the incorporated watermarking. To provide robustness assurance, we propose two different hybrid strategies to make the embeddings of the fake items similar to those of the real items. Second, we focus on effectively learning from a trigger set for recommendation scenarios. In particular, we design an MSE loss function and a contrastive loss function for incorporating the backdoor-based watermarking into the item embeddings, since the item embeddings are often more valuable and easier to be accessed than other parameters of a federated recommendation model. We then design a contrastive loss function to reduce the risk of the fake items being detected. Extensive experiments on three public datasets show the effectiveness of our OVFR in terms of ownership verification, model performance, and robustness.

With the increasing integration of renewable energy into power systems, electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation has become indispensable for accurate system analysis. However, the complexity of wind turbine (WT) modeling, characterized by a large number of electrical nodes, poses significant challenges and necessitates substantial real-time simulation hardware. Existing methods for reducing circuit complexity improve simulation efficiency but are each associated with inherent limitations. Aggregation methods sacrifice considerable internal station information, while existing decoupling techniques are constrained by specific requirements. This paper proposes a real-time simulation model for a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG)-based wind farm (WF) using latency decoupling and a multi-level nested fast and simultaneous solution (M-NFSS) approach, effectively reducing node count while preserving internal details. A WF test model is implemented in RTDS for validation. Results demonstrate highly accurate impedance characteristics and time-domain waveforms of the proposed model, utilizing only 33.3% of the hardware resources compared to the traditional detailed model. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel approach for head tracking in augmented reality (AR) flight simulators using an adaptive fusion of Kalman and particle filters. This fusion dynamically balances the strengths of both algorithms, leveraging Kalman filters for computational efficiency and particle filters for handling non-linearities based on real-time factors such as sensor noise and head movement patterns. Our method demonstrates superior tracking precision and reduced latency, making it particularly effective for immersive pilot training in AR-based flight simulations. While focused on flight simulation, our approach holds high potential for broader applications in other AR and virtual reality (VR) environments where precise, real-time head tracking is crucial. These results provide actionable design guidance for developers optimizing tracking systems in environments that require fast response times and high accuracy. Future extensions of this research could explore the generalization of our approach across diverse AR applications, including human-computer interaction (HCI), medical simulations, and gaming. © 1968-2012 IEEE.

In high-power inductive power transfer (IPT) systems, multiple coils are used to enhance efficiency, but interactions between coils on the same side can reduce overall performance. Traditionally, decoupling coils are added to minimize these interactions, however they don’t contribute to power transfer and may even hinder system efficiency. This article introduces a new IPT system and coil structure that integrates decoupling coils, which not only improve mutual interaction between same-side coils but also actively contribute to power transfer. The coils are optimized for high mutual inductance, strong coupling coefficient, reduced self-inductance, and minimized side-by-side mutual inductance, performing well even with X-axis, Y-axis, and angular misalignments. Using 3-D Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS-Maxwell), the magnetic coupler’s performance is thoroughly evaluated, and a downsized experimental setup demonstrates the system’s feasibility. The proposed system achieves a maximum dc-dc efficiency of 94.27%, successfully delivering 1 kW across a 120-mm air gap with zero-voltage switching, presenting a significant advancement for multi-transmitter and multi-receiver systems.

Language-queried target sound extraction (TSE) aims to extract specific sounds from mixtures based on language queries. Traditional fully-supervised training schemes require extensively annotated parallel audio-text data, which are labor-intensive. We introduce a parallel-data-free training scheme, requiring only unlabelled audio clips for TSE model training by utilizing the contrastive language-audio pre-trained model (CLAP). In a vanilla parallel-data-free training stage, target audio is encoded using the pre-trained CLAP audio encoder to form a condition embedding, while during testing, user language queries are encoded by CLAP text encoder as the condition embedding. This vanilla approach assumes perfect alignment between text and audio embeddings, which is unrealistic. Two major challenges arise from training-testing mismatch: the persistent modality gap between text and audio and the risk of overfitting due to the exposure of rich acoustic details in target audio embedding during training. To address this, we propose a retrieval-augmented strategy. Specifically, we create an embedding cache using audio captions generated by a large language model (LLM). During training, target audio embeddings retrieve text embeddings from this cache to use as condition embeddings, ensuring consistent modalities between training and testing and eliminating information leakage. Extensive experiment results show that our retrieval-augmented approach achieves consistent and notable performance improvements over existing state-of-the-art with better generalizability. © 2025 IEEE.

Self-Supervised Reflective Learning Through Self-Distillation and Online Clustering for Speaker Representation Learning

Speaker representation learning is crucial for voice recognition systems, with recent advances in self-supervised approaches reducing dependency on labeled data. Current two-stage iterative frameworks, while effective, suffer from significant computational overhead due to repeated rounds of clustering and training. They also struggle with noisy pseudo labels that can impair model learning. This paper introduces self-supervised reflective learning (SSRL), an improved framework that addresses these limitations by enabling continuous refinement of pseudo labels during training. Through a teacher-student architecture and online clustering mechanism, SSRL eliminates the need for iterative training rounds. To handle label noise, we incorporate noisy label modeling and pseudo label queues that maintain temporal consistency. Experiments on VoxCeleb show SSRL's superiority over current two-stage iterative approaches, surpassing the performance of a 5-round method in just a single training round. Ablation studies validate the contributions of key components like noisy label modeling and pseudo label queues. Moreover, consistent improvements in pseudo labeling and the convergence of cluster counts demonstrate SSRL's effectiveness in deciphering unlabeled data. This work marks an important advancement in efficient and accurate self-supervised speaker representation learning through the novel reflective learning paradigm.
