The use of virtual reality (VR) technologies in higher education has been growing in recent years due to their didactic potential in the most diverse areas of knowledge. However, the implementation of VR in universities is affected by several factors, including the level of digitization of the country or the tenure, private or public, of the universities. In this paper, a quantitative, descriptive and correlational research is carried out on the assessments of a group of professors in Peru about the use of VR in their lectures and on the differences in these perceptions according to the tenure of the university of the participants. For this purpose, a validated questionnaire was used, and its responses were statistically analyzed. The results reveal that professors express high ratings for the use of VR but show insufficient levels of digital skills for its use. In addition, professors from private universities give higher ratings of the didactic and usability aspects of VR. It is suggested that VR equipment and faculty training should be strengthened.

Inner-approximate reachability analysis involves calculating subsets of reachable sets, known as inner-approximations. This analysis is crucial in the fields of dynamic systems analysis and control theory as it provides a reliable estimation of the set of states that a system can reach from given initial states at a specific time instant. In this paper, we study the inner-approximate reachability analysis problem based on the set-boundary reachability method for systems modelled by ordinary differential equations, in which the computed inner-approximations are represented with zonotopes. The set-boundary reachability method computes an inner-approximation by excluding states reached from the initial set’s boundary. The effectiveness of this method is highly dependent on the efficient extraction of the exact boundary of the initial set. To address this, we propose methods leveraging boundary and tiling matrices that can efficiently extract and refine the exact boundary of the initial set represented by zonotopes. Additionally, we enhance the exclusion strategy by contracting the outer-approximations in a flexible way, which allows for the computation of less conservative inner-approximations. To evaluate the proposed method, we compare it with state-of-the-art methods against a series of benchmarks. The numerical results demonstrate that our method is not only efficient but also accurate in computing inner-approximations. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Channel theory is a fundamental theory of wireless communications. The sixth generation (6G) and beyond 6G (B6G) wireless communication networks are expected to provide space-air-ground-sea global coverage. Base stations and users tend to move in three dimensional (3D) continuous spaces, while antennas and propagation environments can be tightly coupled. The underlying channels show an evolutionary trend to 3D continuous-space radio channels that combine antennas and wireless propagation channels, in comparison to discrete local-space wireless propagation channels in previous generations. This introduces new challenges for channel modeling, channel capacity analysis, antenna design, system design, etc. To address these challenges, this paper performs a comprehensive study on 3D continuous-space radio channels in 6G/B6G with the aid of electromagnetic information theory (EIT) that integrates electromagnetic theory, information theory, wireless propagation channel modeling theory, and antenna theory. We start by revealing the connections and gaps between these four fundamental theories. Then, an in-depth investigation on the four major research thrusts of 3D continuous-space radio channels is provided: 1) channel measurements and modeling, 2) channel capacity analysis, 3) general antenna design, and 4) wireless system design. We aim to explore the intrinsic relationships between antenna parameters, channel parameters, channel characteristics, channel capacity, and communication system performance. Finally, future research directions and challenges for 3D continuous-space radio channels are outlined. Our study endeavors to establish a fundamental framework for 3D continuous-space radio channels, with the potential to catalyze breakthroughs in 6G/B6G theories. © 1998-2012 IEEE.

In this work, a predictor-based fixed-time sliding mode control is designed to tackle the problem of achieving precise trajectory tracking control of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles formation flight. The proposed approach simultaneously addresses various practical requirements, such as optimality, constraints, fixed-time convergence, external interferences, and computational ***, a constrained performance index is constructed based on the prediction of the fixed-time sliding surface, the reaching law, and the control input. Secondly, optimal control input is calculated by solving the constrained quadratic optimization problem. An outstanding feature of this study is the theoretical guarantee of closed-loop system stability in the presence of external disturbances and ***, the comparative evaluation with sliding mode predictive control law and fixed-time sliding mode control methods demonstrates that the proposed approach achieves a straightforward control method with improved performance and acceptable accuracy. Finally, a test is conducted to demonstrate the algorithm's potential for hardware implementation by employing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Vision language models (VLMs) have achieved impressive progress in diverse applications, becoming a prevalent research direction. In this paper, we build FIRE, a feedback-refinement dataset, consisting of 1.1M multi-turn conversations that are derived from 27 source datasets, empowering VLMs to spontaneously refine their responses based on user feedback across diverse tasks. To scale up the data collection, FIRE is collected in two components: FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, where FIRE-100K is generated by GPT-4V, and FIRE-1M is freely generated via models trained on FIRE-100K. Then, we build FIRE-Bench, a benchmark to comprehensively evaluate the feedback-refining capability of VLMs, which contains 11K feedback-refinement conversations as the test data, two evaluation settings, and a model to provide feedback for VLMs. We develop the FIRE-LLaVA model by fine-tuning LLaVA on FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, which shows remarkable feedback-refining capability on FIRE-Bench and outperforms untrained VLMs by 50%, making more efficient user-agent interactions and underscoring the significance of the FIRE dataset. —With the rapid development of technology and the acceleration of digitalisation, the frequency and complexity of cyber security threats are increasing. Traditional cybersecurity approaches, often based on static rules and predefined scenarios, are struggling to adapt to the rapidly evolving nature of modern cyberattacks. There is an urgent need for more adaptive and intelligent defence strategies. The emergence of Large Language Model (LLM) provides an innovative solution to cope with the increasingly severe cyber threats, and its potential in analysing complex attack patterns, predicting threats and assisting real-time response has attracted a lot of attention in the field of cybersecurity, and exploring how to effectively use LLM to defend against cyberattacks has become a hot topic in the current research field. This survey examines the applications of LLM from the perspective of the cyber attack lifecycle, focusing on the three phases of defense reconnaissance, foothold establishment, and lateral movement, and it analyzes the potential of LLMs in Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) tasks. Meanwhile, we investigate how LLM-based security solutions are deployed and applied in different network scenarios. It also summarizes the internal and external risk issues faced by LLM during its application. Multi-modal Large Language Model Enhanced Pseudo 3D Perception Framework for Visual Commonsense Reasoning

The visual commonsense reasoning (VCR) task is to choose an answer and provide a justifying rationale based on the given image and textural question. Representative works first recognize objects in images and then associate them with key words in texts. However, existing approaches do not consider exact positions of objects in a human-like three-dimensional (3D) manner, making them incompetent to accurately distinguish objects and understand visual relation. Recently, multi-modal large language models (MLLMs) have been used as powerful tools for several multi-modal tasks but not for VCR yet, which requires elaborate reasoning on specific visual objects referred by texts. In light of the above, an MLLM enhanced pseudo 3D perception framework is designed for VCR. Specifically, we first demonstrate that the relation between objects is relevant to object depths in images, and hence introduce object depth into VCR frameworks to infer 3D positions of objects in images. Then, a depth-aware Transformer is proposed to encode depth differences between objects into the attention mechanism of Transformer to discriminatively associate objects with visual scenes guided by depth. To further associate the answer with the depth of visual scene, each word in the answer is tagged with a pseudo depth to realize depth-aware association between answer words and objects. On the other hand, BLIP-2 as an MLLM is employed to process images and texts, and the referring expressions in texts involving specific visual objects are modified with linguistic object labels to serve as comprehensible MLLM inputs. Finally, a parameter optimization technique is devised to fully consider the quality of data batches based on multi-level reasoning confidence. Integrated optical temperature sensor nowadays has attracted extensive interests thanks to its merits of high accuracy, electromagnetic immunity, and compact size compared with the traditional solutions. So far, most of the state-of-art integrated optical temperature sensors work by spectrum detection of a resonant cavity, which has certain limitations in terms of response time and cost, and it is difficult to achieve high level integration of the overall system. To solve the above problems, in this paper we use silicon-based integrated micro-ring array technology for high-precision real-time temperature sensing. By constructing a monotonic relationship between the output light intensity of the micro-ring array with the variation of the temperature, rapid and high-precision temperature measurement could be realized. Depending on different practical scenarios, the system can be customized to adapt specific temperature measurement range and resolution. Through the optimized design, the system accuracy could be better than 60mK covering temperature range of 297K∼415K, with response time better than 20μs. © COPYRIGHT SPIE.
