Visible light positioning (VLP) is a promising positioning technique, which, however, typically requires multiple luminaires to achieve accurate positioning. This paper proposes a novel visual odometry (VO) assisted visible light positioning algorithm (VO-VLP) in achieving positioning with only a single luminaire. In the considered model, a user equipped with a camera jointly uses geometric features in the captured images and coordinates information obtained via visible light communication (VLC) for positioning. The proposed VLP algorithm does not rely on any extra inertial measurement unit and relaxes the tilted angle limitation at the user. In particular, VO-VLP first uses the circle feature of a luminaire to obtain dual normal vectors of the luminaire. Then, the basic principle of VO is used to eliminate the wrong normal vector by exploiting the geometric features in two consecutive images captured when the user moves. Finally, the pose and location of the user are obtained by using an artificially marked point on the luminaire's contour. VO-VLP can achieve accurate positioning with only a single luminaire and a camera. Simulation results show that the proposed indoor positioning algorithm can achieve a 97th-percentile positioning accuracy of around 10 cm.

Imagined speech production with electrocorticography (ECoG) plays a crucial role in brain-computer interface system. A challenging issue is the great variation underlying the frequency bands of the ECoG signals’ encode information, which makes current methods difficult to generate imagined speech with stable quality among different persons. To this end, we propose a robust model to generate high-quality imagined speech from ECoG. A frequency enhancement branch is first designed to adaptively modulate the frequency information, whose product is fed into the following multi-scale channel attention module for robust feature extraction and fusion. By incorporating both the mel-spectrum and audio as training constraints, a multi-constraint decoder branch is finally constructed for imagined speech production. The performance of our model is evaluated on a high-quality dateset, i.e, Single Word Production Dutch-iBIDS. It yields Pearson correlation scores that are all above 0.8, and the standard deviationsare are all below 0.2 in different volunteers. Experimental results demonstrate that our model is effective and robust for ECoG based imagined speech production, and has advantages over peer methods.

Teaching Text-to-Image Models to Communicate in Dialog

A picture is worth a thousand words, thus, it is crucial for conversational agents to understand, perceive, and effectively respond with pictures. However, we find that directly employing conventional image generation techniques is inadequate for conversational agents to produce image responses effectively. In this paper, we focus on the innovative dialog-to-image generation task, where the model synthesizes a high-resolution image aligned with the given dialog context as a response. To tackle this problem, we design a tailored fine-tuning approach on the top of state-of-the-art text-to-image generation models to fully exploit the structural and semantic features in dialog context during image generation. Concretely, we linearize the dialog context with specific indicators to maintain the dialog structure, and employ in-domain data to alleviate the style mismatch between dialog-to-image and conventional image generation tasks. Empirical results on PhotoChat and MMDialog Corpus show that our approach brings consistent and remarkable improvement with 3 state-of-the-art pre-trained text-to-image generation backbones. Gaussian Splatting SLAMs have made significant advancements in improving the efficiency and fidelity of real-time reconstructions. However, these systems often encounter incomplete reconstructions in complex indoor environments, characterized by substantial holes due to unobserved geometry caused by obstacles or limited view angles. To address this challenge, we present Manhattan Gaussian SLAM, an RGB-D system that leverages the Manhattan World hypothesis to enhance geometric accuracy and completeness. By seamlessly integrating fused line segments derived from structured scenes, our method ensures robust tracking in textureless indoor areas. Moreover, The extracted lines and planar surface assumption allow strategic interpolation of new Gaussians in regions of missing geometry, enabling efficient scene completion. Extensive experiments conducted on both synthetic and real-world scenes demonstrate that these advancements enable our method to achieve state-of-the-art performance, marking a substantial improvement in the capabilities of Gaussian SLAM systems. © 2024, CC BY.

The current RF wireless communication spectrum resources are facing significant scarcity, which hampers their ability to support the requirements for ultra-high data rates and ultra-low latency. Laser Diodes (LD) based optical wireless communication (OWC) has emerged as a potential alternative technology that has garnered considerable attention. OWC utilizes the abundant spectrum of light and offers several advantages, including rich bandwidth, strong security, and high trans-mission rates. In this paper, we propose an automatic axis-aligned high-speed optical wireless communication system based on laser diode. Using the camera and the 2D steering, we demonstrate a mobile real-time OWC system over a distance of 0.8 m and a field angle of ±10°. This system is based on the 10 Gigabit Ethernet protocol and can consistently deliver TCP data transmission at a rate of 9.36 Gbps.

Feature extraction is an initial and essential part for the development of accurate predictive machine learning classifiers. In the research field of drug discovery and development, the usage of molecular descriptors, which can be defined as mathematical representations of molecules’ chemical properties, is a challenging task not only for machine learning studies but even for "classical wet lab" approaches. However, a high diversity of these descriptors is required in order to exploit all the available knowledge and, consequently, to maximize the potentially predictive power of approaches that could be applied for the discovery of new bioactive compounds against one or more molecular targets. Furthermore, the representation and normalization of these information is considered a rather time-consuming process. Herein, we present an approach that employs the power of cloud and distributing computing for the extraction, processing and representation of big datasets, leading to the generation of molecular descriptors in a reasonable time frame.

This paper proposes a distributed prescribed-time observer for nonlinear systems representable in a block-triangular observable canonical form. Using a weighted average of neighbor estimates exchanged over a strongly connected digraph, each observer estimates the system state despite the limited observability of local sensor measurements. The proposed design guarantees that distributed state estimation errors converge to zero at a user-specified convergence time, irrespective of observers’ initial conditions. To achieve this prescribed-time convergence, distributed observers implement time-varying local output injection gains that monotonically increase and approach infinity at the prescribed time. The theoretical convergence is rigorously proven and validated through numerical simulations, where some implementation issues due to increasing gains have also been clarified. Ultraviolet communication (UVC) has emerged as a promising solution for close-range communication within the intricate electromagnetic setting. The atmosphere's attenuation, however, restricts the scope and rate of communication. We demonstrated a line-of-sight (LOS) UV communication system. In our system, we employed ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in our system to transmit the signal light with a broad radiation angle and use lenses to enhance the communication range. We propose a combined approach of theory and practice to analyze the feasibility of a LOS UVC system.

Health has recently faced many challenges, including improving a healthy environment and reducing human life's dangers and economic crises. The last pandemic COVID-19 had badly affected survivor sectors with infection and lockdown exigence. Scientists proposed several solutions to reduce the negative impact of a such pandemic by proposing systems for earlier detection of viruses. The use of metamaterials as an emerging technology in the biosensors field allows a high accuracy. This paper presents a method for detecting and capturing airborne viruses using metasurface technology. The goal is to develop a system that can identify and capture these viruses using FET sensors. The accuracy of the detection is tied to the concentration of aerosols. The model proposes a guided flow of aerosols that positively impacts the detection of viruses through the FET biosensor. The simulation results based on Concentration and airflow velocity delays prove the proposed model's performance.
