Consider a sensor network consisting of both anchor and non-anchor nodes. We address the following sensor network localization (SNL) problem: given the physical locations of anchor nodes and relative measurements among all nodes, determine the locations of all non-anchor nodes. The solution to the SNL problem is challenging due to its inherent non-convexity. In this paper, the problem takes on the form of a multi-player nonconvex potential game in which canonical duality theory is used to define a complementary dual potential function. After showing the Nash equilibrium (NE) correspondent to the SNL solution, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a stationary point to coincide with the NE. An algorithm is proposed_ to reach the NE and shown to have convergence rate O(1/√k). With the aim of reducing the information exchange within a network, a distributed algorithm for NE seeking is implemented and its global convergence analysis is provided. Tracking Dialog States in Goal-Oriented Dialogues using a BERT-Based Siamese Network

A dialogue state tracker is a component in a task-oriented dialogue system that monitors the current state of a conversation and gives information about its context and history to other system components. The dynamic and open-ended character of human interactions is one of the primary obstacles in dialogue state monitoring, necessitating robust and adaptable models to keep up with the quick context changes. Recently, numerous deep learning-based algorithms have been developed for this purpose. Still, these models are typically heavily-engineered and conceptually sophisticated, making them challenging to deploy, debug, and maintain in a production environment. To overcome these challenges, we offer the BERT-SIAM-DST model, a unique way to dialogue state monitoring employing a Siamese network with BERT as the base network. This model uses the robust representation capabilities of BERT and the ability of Siamese networks to record correlations between inputs to make accurate predictions regarding the current state of the discussion. In addition, the number of parameters does not increase proportionally with the size of the ontology, and the model is adaptable to alterations in the domain ontology. We test the performance of the BERT-SIAM-DST model on the standard WoZ 2.0 dataset of annotated dialogues and compare it to other approaches. Compared to numerous baseline models, the BERT-SIAM-DST model is effective at tracking the state of discussions, demonstrating the promise of BERT-based Siamese networks for this purpose.

TCEIP: Text Condition Embedded Regression Network for Dental Implant Position Prediction

When deep neural network has been proposed to assist the dentist in designing the location of dental implant, most of them are targeting simple cases where only one missing tooth is available. As a result, literature works do not work well when there are multiple missing teeth and easily generate false predictions when the teeth are sparsely distributed. In this paper, we are trying to integrate a weak supervision text, the target region, to the implant position regression network, to address above issues. We propose a text condition embedded implant position regression network (TCEIP), to embed the text condition into the encoder-decoder framework for improvement of the regression performance. A cross-modal interaction that consists of cross-modal attention (CMA) and knowledge alignment module (KAM) is proposed to facilitate the interaction between features of images and texts. The CMA module performs a cross-attention between the image feature and the text condition, and the KAM mitigates the knowledge gap between the image feature and the image encoder of the CLIP. Extensive experiments on a dental implant dataset through five-fold cross-validation demonstrated that the proposed TCEIP achieves superior performance than existing methods. Ensuring safety in both autonomous driving and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) depends critically on the efficient deployment of traffic sign recognition technology. While current methods show effectiveness, they often compromise between speed and accuracy. To address this issue, we present a novel real-time and efficient road sign detection network, YOLO-TS. This network significantly improves performance by optimizing the receptive fields of multi-scale feature maps to align more closely with the size distribution of traffic signs in various datasets. Moreover, our innovative feature-fusion strategy, leveraging the flexibility of Anchor-Free methods, allows for multiscale object detection on a high-resolution feature map abundant in contextual information, achieving remarkable enhancements in both accuracy and speed. To mitigate the adverse effects of the grid pattern caused by dilated convolutions on the detection of smaller objects, we have devised a unique module that not only mitigates this grid effect but also widens the receptive field to encompass an extensive range of spatial contextual information, thus boosting the efficiency of information usage. Evaluation on challenging public datasets, TT100K and CCTSDB2021, demonstrates that YOLO-TS surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods in terms of both accuracy and speed. The geographic proximity effect on domestic cross-sector vis-à-vis intra-sector research collaborations

Geographic proximity is acknowledged to be a key factor in research collaborations. Specifically, it can work as a possible substitute for institutional proximity. The present study investigates the relevance of the "proximity" effect for different types of national research collaborations. We apply a bibliometric approach based on the Italian 2010-2017 scientific production indexed in the Web of Science. On such dataset, we apply statistical tools for analyzing if and to what extent geographical distance between co-authors in the byline of a publication varies across collaboration types, scientific disciplines, and along time. Results can inform policies aimed at effectively stimulating cross-sector collaborations, and also bear direct practical implications for research performance assessments. This paper considers the global finite time stabilization of linear systems subject to actuator saturation. We show that a controllable SISO system whose eigenvalues are real and negative can be globally stabilized in finite time by a homogeneous feedback law. To obviate numerical issues, this homogeneous feedback law is implemented by discretizing a compact set. Numerical simulation validates the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A 915MHz ultra-low-power blocker-enhanced wake- up receiver (BE-WuRx) is presented in a 65nm CMOS process. Employing the proposed frequency-hopping two-tone modulation (FH-TTM), the BE-WuRx can dynamically convert the in-band blocker power to data power, and achieves a −63.6dBm sensitivity without blocker and a −90dBm enhanced sensitivity with a −25dBm CW interferer, while just consuming $\mathbf{19}\mathbf{\mu}\mathbf{W}$ . With the −63.6dBm sensitivity, the BE-WuRx performs 53dB tolerance to the in-band blocker, exhibiting 14dB improvement compared to the case that FH- TTM is off. The wake-up latency is 6.4ms for a quiet channel and 6.4 to 64ms for a congested channel.

FAVER: Blind Quality Prediction of Variable Frame Rate Videos

Video quality assessment (VQA) remains an important and challenging problem that affects many applications at the widest scales. Recent advances in mobile devices and cloud computing techniques have made it possible to capture, process, and share high resolution, high frame rate (HFR) videos across the Internet nearly instantaneously. Being able to monitor and control the quality of these streamed videos can enable the delivery of more enjoyable content and perceptually optimized rate control. Accordingly, there is a pressing need to develop VQA models that can be deployed at enormous scales. While some recent effects have been applied to full-reference (FR) analysis of variable frame rate and HFR video quality, the development of no-reference (NR) VQA algorithms targeting frame rate variations has been little studied. Here, we propose a first-of-a-kind blind VQA model for evaluating HFR videos, which we dub the Framerate-Aware Video Evaluator w/o Reference (FAVER). FAVER uses extended models of spatial natural scene statistics that encompass space-time wavelet-decomposed video signals, to conduct efficient frame rate sensitive quality prediction. Our extensive experiments on several HFR video quality datasets show that FAVER outperforms other blind VQA algorithms at a reasonable computational cost. The pre-training language model BERT has brought significant performance improvements to a series of natural language processing tasks, but due to the large scale of the model, it is difficult to be applied in many practical application scenarios. With the continuous development of edge computing, deploying the models on resource-constrained edge devices has become a trend. Considering the distributed edge environment, how to take into account issues such as data distribution differences, labeling costs, and privacy while the model is shrinking is a critical task. The paper proposes a new BERT distillation method with source-free unsupervised domain adaptation. By combining source-free unsupervised domain adaptation and knowledge distillation for optimization and improvement, the performance of the BERT model is improved in the case of cross-domain data. Compared with other methods, our method can improve the average prediction accuracy by up to around 4% through the experimental evaluation of the cross-domain sentiment analysis task.

Language-Queried Target Sound Extraction Without Parallel Training Data

Language-queried target sound extraction (TSE) aims to extract specific sounds from mixtures based on language queries. Traditional fully-supervised training schemes require extensively annotated parallel audio-text data, which are labor-intensive. We introduce a parallel-data-free training scheme, requiring only unlabelled audio clips for TSE model training by utilizing the contrastive language-audio pre-trained model (CLAP). In a vanilla parallel-data-free training stage, target audio is encoded using the pre-trained CLAP audio encoder to form a condition embedding, while during testing, user language queries are encoded by CLAP text encoder as the condition embedding. This vanilla approach assumes perfect alignment between text and audio embeddings, which is unrealistic. Two major challenges arise from training-testing mismatch: the persistent modality gap between text and audio and the risk of overfitting due to the exposure of rich acoustic details in target audio embedding during training. To address this, we propose a retrieval-augmented strategy. Specifically, we create an embedding cache using audio captions generated by a large language model (LLM). During training, target audio embeddings retrieve text embeddings from this cache to use as condition embeddings, ensuring consistent modalities between training and testing and eliminating information leakage. Extensive experiment results show that our retrieval-augmented approach achieves consistent and notable performance improvements over existing state-of-the-art with better generalizability. © 2024, CC BY.
