In this paper, fusion of Common Spatial Pattern (CSP) analysis derived features and Time-Domain Parameters (TDP) is investigated for two-class motion imagery classification: left hand movement and right hand movement imagery. This fusion method is aiming at improving the performance of Brain-computer Interface (BCI) systems in translating human thoughts into command to control certain robots, e.g. rehabilitation robots. In the BCI system applied in this paper, a Human-Friendly Interactive Bear Robot is implemented, whose bear-like appearance and interactive actions can alleviate the frustration and anxiety on the part of the user in the experiment. Moreover, off-line experiments are conducted to demonstrate the efficiency of the fusion method using both well-known open-source data and data obtained by the BCI system mentioned before.

Effective exploitation of the application-specific parallel patterns and computation operations through their direct implementation in hardware is the base for construction of high-quality application-specific (re-)configurable application specific instruction set processors (ASIPs) and hardware accelerators for modern highly-demanding applications. Although it receives a lot of attention from the researchers and practitioners, a very important problem of hardware reuse in ASIP and accelerator synthesis is clearly underestimated and does not get enough attention in the published research. This paper is an effect of an industry and academic collaborative research. It analyses the problem of hardware sharing, shows its high practical relevance, as well as a big influence of hardware sharing on the major circuit and system parameters, and its importance for the multi-objective optimization and tradeoff exploitation. It also demonstrates that the state-of-the-art synthesis tools do not sufficiently address this problem and gives several guidelines related to enhancement of the hardware reuse.

This work presents a method to detect the size and location of tumor in soft tissues using ultrasound. Quantitative ultrasound is utilized to allow an ultrasound signal to be sent from a transmitter to multiple receivers. This received signal is analyzed for echogenic and echolucent tumors to differentiate between the two along with non-tumor sample and also studied for the delay to determine the size/location of the tumor. The proposed system utilizes Low Transient Pulse (LTP) technique and is implemented using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and digital Signal Processor (DSP) technologies. In this co-design architecture, DSP carries out the analysis of received demodulated signal at a lower speed while FPGA runs at a higher one to generate LTP signal and demodulate bandpass ultrasonic signal. This work elaborates the implementation of Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) receiver on FPGA for the received signal from an ultrasound detector. LTP is applied to the tumor samples through the transmitter and the received signal at an ultrasonic receiver is passed through QAM to obtain different maxima that are then further used to compute the location and the size of the tumor using DSP. This dual platform co-design demonstrates a good application of a FPGA/DSP platform for the LTP generation and received signal processing.

The paper analyzed and model of a fault tolerant electromechanical controlled worm gear driven fuel shut off valve for aerospace application. The analysis is mainly on design a reduced order fractional controller. This is for controlling the velocity of worm gear so that the friction torque due to uneven rotational speed can be avoided. Because with the friction and stiction and backlash the valve system performance is reduced and more and more unstable this leads the system to failure. The proposed controller can provide robustness against the uncertain loading torque and system parameter.

Biometric systems based on a single source of information suffer from limitations such as the lack of uniqueness, non-universality of the chosen biometric trait, noisy data and spoof attacks. Multibiometrics are relatively new systems that overcome those problems. These systems fuse information from multiple biometric sources in order to achieve better identification performance. In this paper, 2D and 3D palmprint are integrated in order to construct an efficient multibiometric identification system based on matching score level fusion. For that, the texture information is characterized by the rotation invariant VARiance measures (VAR) and compressed using the Principal Components Analysis (PCA). Subsequently, we use the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) for modeling the feature vector of each palmprint. Finally, Log-likelihood scores are used for palmprint evaluation. The proposed scheme is tested and evaluated using PolyU 2D-3D palmprint database of 250 users. Our experimental results show the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed system, which brings high identification accuracy rate. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, a low power and fast DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) using multiplier-less method is presented with a new modified FGA (Flow-Graph Algorithm), which is derived from our previously presented FGA of DCT based on Loeffler algorithm. The multiplier-less method is based on the replacement of multiplications with a minimum number of additions and shifts. The proposed FGA is performed and compared to a previous one. The results of FPGA implementations on Altera Cyclone II show the increase of the maximum frequency, the decrease of the resources usage and the reduction of the dynamic power by 7.2 % at 120 MHz of clock frequency with a new proposed FGA algorithm. Another comparison with recent published results has been done and proves the efficiency of the proposed FGA.

A practical method for evaluating the three-dimensional（3D） position and velocity of a moving object used in the parabolic flight experiment is developed by using the binocular stereo vision measurement theory. The camera calibration mathematic model without considering the lens distortion is *** direct linear transformation（DLT） algorithm is improved to accomplish the camera *** camera calibration result and optimization algorithm are used to calculate the object＇s world coordinate from image *** 3D position and the velocity of the moving object are *** standard uncertainty in estimating the velocity is 0.0024 m/s,which corresponds to 1%level of the velocity of the object in the *** results show that this method is very useful for the parabolic flight experiments.

A subspace of a multipartite Hilbert space is said to be locally indistinguishable if any orthonormal basis of this subspace cannot be perfectly distinguished by local operations and classical communication. Previously it was shown that any m⊗n bipartite system with m>2 and n>2 has a locally indistinguishable subspace. However, it has been an open problem since 2005 whether there is a locally indistinguishable bipartite subspace with a qubit subsystem. We settle this problem in negative by showing that any 2⊗n bipartite subspace contains a basis that is locally distinguishable. As an interesting application, we show that any quantum channel with two Kraus operators has optimal environment-assisted classical capacity.

The time-dependent CP asymmetry in Bs0→J/ψK+K− decays is measured using pp collision data at s=7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1, collected with the LHCb detector. The decay-time distribution is characterized by the decay widths ΓL and ΓH of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the Bs0−B¯s0 system and by a CP-violating phase ϕs. In a sample of 27 617 Bs0→J/ψK+K− decays, where the dominant contribution comes from Bs0→J/ψϕ decays, these parameters are measured to be ϕs=0.07±0.09(stat)±0.01(syst) rad, Γs≡(ΓL+ΓH)/2=0.663±0.005(stat)±0.006(syst) ps−1, and ΔΓs≡ΓL−ΓH=0.100±0.016(stat)±0.003(syst) ps−1, corresponding to the single most precise determination of ϕs, ΔΓs, and Γs. The result of performing a combined analysis with Bs0→J/ψπ+π− decays gives ϕs=0.01±0.07(stat)±0.01(syst) rad, Γs=0.661±0.004(stat)±0.006(syst) ps−1, and ΔΓs=0.106±0.011(stat)±0.007(syst) ps−1. All measurements are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions.

Collagenous colitis is prevalent among pathological diseases. Because of normal radiological and endoscopic appearances, the microscopic image of colon tissue is necessary and important material for investigation of this disease. In this paper, a computerized system is developed for collagenous colitis diagnosis. First, colon tissues are colored with Mason trichrome to make sub-epithelial collagen band to be appeared in blue. Second, preprocessing is done on the microscopic image of colon tissue, and then Color histogram features in HSV color space and Haar Wavelet energy in detail coefficients of sub-band images are implemented to characterize the histological structure representation for tissue classification. KNN Classifier is selected for this classification, which segments the sub-epithelial collagen band from the image, and finally, thickness of sub-epithelial collagen band is determined by morphological operations. Abnormal case will be recognized if the thickness of sub-epithelial collagen band be more than 10 μm. Fifty clinical image samples were employed in the training and testing procedures for the evaluation of system performance. Through the applied classification it was revealed that collagenous colitis can be diagnosed accurately.
