The robust H_(infinity) control problem for the generator excitation system with the damping coefficient uncertainty and external disturbances, is addressed. Storage functions of the control system are constructed based on modified adaptive backstepping sliding mode control method and Lyapunov method. A nonlinear robust H_(infinity) controller and a parameter updating law are obtained simultaneously. The controller can not only attenuate the influences of external disturbances on the system output, but also has strong robustness for system parameters variation. Since the controller design is based completely on the nonlinear dynamic system without any linearization, the nonlinear property of the dynamic system is well preserved. The simulation results show that more rapid speed response and stronger robustness can be obtained by the proposed method than the conventional adaptive backstepping and adaptive backstepping sliding mode control methods.

The Italica Project is the implementation of an electronic health record system at the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires. The present work shows the implementation of a medical signal grid repository module and its integration to the Italica Project. We also describe the architecture of that module and explain the design decisions taken for its construction. The integration to the preexisting system is also presented, together with the difficulties that arose from the insertion of a data grid in an environment not used to this technology. Several issues about the security and reliability of the medical data are treated as well. In this paper we also discuss the use of the grid repository as a starting point for the development of distributed processing applications.

We propose an automatic and precise moving-object extraction method for use in video streams that can also be used for 3-D system applications. The method generates a statistical model for each pixel using several frames, and then uses it to generate trimap images. After manually initializing a frame, unknown regions are automatically determined either background or foreground for the rest of frames. The key technology proposed is an adaptive training scheme, which estimates detection thresholds locally through the algorithm, followed by matting approaches using an iterative process and weighted statistical distance minimization. Experiments demonstrate outperformance of our method for both indoor and outdoor video streams, and also for 3-D modeling and representation.

Due to environmental mismatch, speech recognition systems often exhibit drastic performance degradation in noisy conditions. This paper presents a model-based technique termed Adaptive Parallel Model Combination (APMC) which compensates the initial acoustic models to reduce the discrepancy. APMC used the well-known PMC technique to composite a set of corrupted speech models, while fine tuning the mean parameter of the models using a transformation-based adaptation technique called Maximum Likelihood Spectral Transformation (MLST). Evaluated on a context-independent phone recognition task, APMC was found to be superior to both PMC and MLST, especially in non-stationary noisy conditions. On average, APMC has achieved 48.81% improvement over the initial models, whereas PMC and MLST have improved the accuracy by 34.12% and 35.23% respectively.

This paper proposes the self‐timed circuit design. Quasi‐delay insensitive circuit is introduced as asynchronous prototype. The designed circuit focuses on asynchronous processor design. The processor employs asynchronous system bus, asynchronous DMA controller and synchronous interfaces. The system almost completely asynchrony operation except I/O devices and memory interfaces, due to a limitation on the present time devices, the designed has been implemented on spartan‐3E FPGA no. 3S500EFG320 by partitioning each module to prevent place and routing conflict, 100‐Mhz memory frequency connected, and consumes 141, 063 equivalent gate counts. Security is a very important issue in information processing, especially in open network environments like the Internet. The Common Criteria (CC) is the standard requirements catalogue for the evaluation of security critical systems. Using the CC, a large number of security requirements on the system itself and on the system development can be defined. However, the CC does not give methodological support. In this paper, we show how to integrate security aspects into the verification and validation of software engineering processes and develop a new integrated approach for verification and validation of software and security issues based on common criteria standard. The activities and documents from the Common Criteria are tightly intertwined with the verification techniques, which improves the security of the developed system and reduces the cost and effort. We choose IEEE standard of software verification and validation as reference information of V&V and demonstrate our ideas by means of a case-study, the Electronic Purse Card system.

The theory is being elaborated and the simulation results have been done by comparing AND subtraction technique against Complementary subtraction technique by using DW code. The result shows that the OSNR for AND subtraction technique give 39.5 dB at 10 km, while Complementary technique is only 24.5 dB. In this paper we have proved that AND subtraction technique gives better optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) performance due to reduce the multiple access interference (MAI) compared to the Complementary subtraction technique.
