DEFAEK: Domain Effective Fast Adaptive Network for Face Anti-Spoofing

Existing deep learning based face anti-spoofing (FAS) or deepfake detection approaches usually rely on large-scale datasets and powerful networks with significant amount of parameters to achieve satisfactory performance. However, these make them resource-heavy and unsuitable for handheld devices. Moreover, they are limited by the types of spoof in the dataset they train on and require considerable training time. To produce a robust FAS model, they need large datasets covering the widest variety of predefined presentation attacks possible. Testing on new or unseen attacks or environments generally results in poor performance. Ideally, the FAS model should learn discriminative features that can generalize well even on unseen spoof types. In this paper, we propose a fast learning approach called Domain Effective Fast Adaptive nEt-worK (DEFAEK), a face anti-spoofing approach based on the optimization-based meta-learning paradigm that effectively and quickly adapts to new tasks. DEFAEK treats differences in an environment as domains and simulates multiple domain shifts during training. To further improve the effectiveness and efficiency of meta-learning, we adopt the metric learning in the inner loop update with careful sample selection. With extensive experiments on the challenging CelebA-Spoof and FaceForensics++ datasets, the evaluation results show that DEFAEK can learn cues independent of the environment with good generalization capability. In addition, the resulting model is lightweight following the design principle of modern lightweight network architecture and still generalizes well on unseen classes. In addition, we also demonstrate our model's capabilities by comparing the numbers of parameters, FLOPS, and model performance with other state-of-the-art methods. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Most existing multimodal named entity recognition (MNER) methods cannot align image and text well, and fail to effectively fuse image-text semantic information, leading to suboptimal MNER accuracy. To this end, this paper proposes a novel named entity recognition model based on Contrastive Learning and Multimodal Semantic Interaction (named CLMSI). Specifically, to narrow the semantic gap between image-text modalities, making semantically similar image-text representations closer and pushing dissimilar ones further apart, we propose a contrastive learning-based cross-modal alignment method. Moreover, to integrate multimodal information effectively and filter out the noise introduced by image features as thoroughly as possible, we propose to incorporate image descriptions as additional features to enrich the multimodal representation and to reduce the semantic bias of the image information. Extensive experiments conducted on two MNER benchmark datasets, Twitter-2015 and Twitter-2017, demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method. Further ablation studies and case analyses also affirm the efficacy of CLMSI. © 2024 IEEE.

The electronics panels and controllers used in electric vehicle (EV) charging stations need to function securely and optimally in countries such as India, where the external temperature remains high for a significant part of the year. This study is the first to use a solar-battery storage integrated switchable glazing architecture to supply HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) in the control rooms of electric vehicle charging stations throughout the day. The EV charging station has been equipped with a rooftop-mounted solar PV source as part of an initiative to promote renewable energy and sustainable forms of mobility. The utilization of a vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) by the system ensures energy security through the provision of a durable solution for storing energy over an extended period of time. A smart scheduling system utilizing IoT technology was demonstrated to effectively meet the glazing load need of buildings in real-time, taking into account dynamic climatic conditions. This system incorporates solar PV, VRFB storage, and the neighborhood power grid. The efficiency of the suggested method was validated using four separate transitory scenarios: sunny, intermittently cloudy, prolongedly cloudy, and low solar radiation with frequent grid outages. Due to its versatility to be applied in various situations, the suggested method has the potential to greatly enhance capacity. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). Computing has become more invisible, widespread and ubiquitoussince the inception of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Web of Things. Multipledevices that surround us meet user’s requirements everywhere. Multiple Middleware Framework (MF) designs have come into existence because of the rapiddevelopment of interactive services in Heterogeneous Systems. This resulted inthe delivery of interactive services throughout Heterogeneous Environments(HE). Users are given free navigation between devices in a widespread environment and continuously interact with each other from any chosen device. Numerous interactive devices with recent interactive platforms (for example, SmartPhones, Mobile Phones, Personal computer (PC) and Personal digital Assistant(PDA)) are available in the market. For easy access to information and servicesirrespective of the device used for working and even at the drastic change ofthe environment, the execution of applications on a broad spectrum of computingdevices is propelled by the availability of the above-mentioned platforms. Different applications that need interoperability to coordinate and correspond with eachother should be facilitated. Using a standard interface and data format, HE mustlink various devices from various platforms together to communicate with eachother. To aid the interactive services performed by a middleware framework thatoperates on Application Programming Interface (API) over HEs, this issue aims toendorse an Adaptable Service Application Programming Interface (ASAPI).

Performance Analysis of Three Spectrum Sensing Detection Techniques with Ambient Backscatter Communication in Cognitive Radio Networks

In wireless communications, the Ambient Backscatter Communication (AmBC) technique is a promisingapproach, detecting user presence accurately at low power levels. At low power or a low Signal-to-Noise Ratio(SNR), there is no dedicated power for the users. Instead, they can transmit information by reflecting the ambientRadio Frequency (RF) signals in the spectrum. Therefore, it is essential to detect user presence in the spectrum forthe transmission of data without loss or without collision at a specific time. In this paper, the authors proposed anovel Spectrum Sensing (SS) detection technique in the Cognitive Radio (CR) spectrum, by developing the *** Matched Filter Detection with Inverse covariance (MFDI), Cyclostationary Feature Detection with Inversecovariance (CFDI) and Hybrid Filter Detection with Inverse covariance (HFDI) approaches are used with AmBCto detect the presence of users at low power levels. The performance of the three detection techniques is measuredusing the parameters of Probability of Detection (PD), Probability of False Alarms (Pfa), Probability of MissedDetection (Pmd), sensing time and throughput at low power or low SNR. The results show that there is a significantimprovement via the HFDI technique for all the parameters.

With the increasing popularity of live streaming platforms, there is an imperative need for robust methods for identifying individuals in real-time. The proposed system utilizes Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) computer vision algorithms to identify faces in live streams and match them against a pre-existing database of known individuals. Additionally, the system employs deep learning and supervised learning techniques along with various types of CNN to achieve robust facial recognition in diverse lighting and environmental conditions. The system's accuracy is evaluated using various performance metrics, including precision, recall, and F1-score. The results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves high accuracy in person identification during real-time live streams. This system holds potential applications in a variety of domains, including security, entertainment, and social media. © 2024 IEEE.

The use of memristors has been explored for various applications due to its unique computing capability, in particular in-memory computing (IMC). IMC offers both storage and computation using the same hardware, which overcomes to a large extent the CPU-memory bottleneck that exists in current-day computing architectures. Memristors are often fabricated in a crossbar, which offers various benefits over other memory technologies, including in-memory computing, low power, and high density. However, the still immature nano-scale fabrication technology can lead to a number of faulty cells in the crossbar (typically, 30-40% faulty cells). For some applications like neuromorphic computing, a limited number of faults can be tolerated. However, for some other applications like Boolean function realization, a single faulty cell may lead to incorrect results. We therefore need a fault diagnosis approach to use the memristor devices efficiently. In this paper, we have analyzed various fault diagnosis approaches available in the literature. We observe that most of the existing approaches employ March-based test, which is used for conventional RAM. Nevertheless, memristor storage and operation techniques differ from conventional memory, necessitating a different approach and fault models to be used. © 2023 IEEE.
