Modern learning-based visual feature extraction networks perform well in intra-domain localization, however, their performance significantly declines when image pairs are captured across long-term visual domain variations, such as different seasonal and daytime variations. In this paper, our first contribution is a benchmark to investigate the performance impact of long-term variations on visual localization. We conduct a thorough analysis of the performance of current state-of-the-art feature extraction networks under various domain changes and find a significant performance gap between intra- and cross-domain localization. We investigate different methods to close this gap by improving the supervision of modern feature extractor networks. We propose a novel data-centric method, Implicit Cross-Domain Correspondences (iCDC). iCDC represents the same environment with multiple Neural Radiance Fields, each fitting the scene under individual visual domains. It utilizes the underlying 3D representations to generate accurate correspondences across different long-term visual conditions. Our proposed method enhances cross-domain localization performance, significantly reducing the performance gap. When evaluated on popular long-term localization benchmarks, our trained networks consistently outperform existing methods. This work serves as a substantial stride toward more robust visual localization pipelines for long-term deployments, and opens up research avenues in the development of long-term invariant descriptors. S-INF: Towards Realistic Indoor Scene Synthesis via Scene Implicit Neural Field

Learning-based methods have become increasingly popular in 3D indoor scene synthesis (ISS), showing superior performance over traditional optimization-based approaches. These learning-based methods typically model distributions on simple yet explicit scene representations using generative models. However, due to the oversimplified explicit representations that overlook detailed information and the lack of guidance from multimodal relationships within the scene, most learning-based methods struggle to generate indoor scenes with realistic object arrangements and styles. In this paper, we introduce a new method, Scene Implicit Neural Field (S-INF), for indoor scene synthesis, aiming to learn meaningful representations of multimodal relationships, to enhance the realism of indoor scene synthesis. S-INF assumes that the scene layout is often related to the object-detailed information. It disentangles the multimodal relationships into scene layout relationships and detailed object relationships, fusing them later through implicit neural fields (INFs). By learning specialized scene layout relationships and projecting them into S-INF, we achieve a realistic generation of scene layout. Additionally, S-INF captures dense and detailed object relationships through differentiable rendering, ensuring stylistic consistency across objects. Through extensive experiments on the benchmark 3D-FRONT dataset, we demonstrate that our method consistently achieves state-of-the-art performance under different types of ISS. © 2024, CC BY.

This article examines the use of count data models to predict the number of tourists visiting Thailand’s national parks. The dataset, encompassing observations from 2016 to 2022 across 146 national parks, exhibits characteristics such as discreteness, over dispersion, and non-negative integer values. Two models— Poisson (POI), and Negative Binomial (NB)—were compared to identify the most effective approach for modeling and prediction. Model evaluation metrics, including the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and log-likelihood, were employed. Results demonstrate that the Negative Binomial regression model best captures the data’s overdispersion compared to the POI model. The NB model achieved the lowest AIC and highest log-likelihood, affirming its superior performance for this application. Our findings underscore the NB model’s utility in predicting tourism-related count data and suggest its broader applicability to other domains characterized by overdispersed count data.

Image data plays a pivotal role in the current data-driven era, particularly in applications such as computer vision, object recognition, and facial identification. Google Maps ® stands out as a widely used platform that heavily relies on street view images. To fulfill the pressing need for an effective and distributed mechanism for image data collection, we present a framework that utilizes smart contract technology and open-source robots to gather street-view image sequences. The proposed framework also includes a protocol for maintaining these sequences using a private blockchain capable of retaining different versions of street views while ensuring the integrity of collected data. With this framework, Google Maps ® data can be securely collected, stored, and published on a private blockchain. By conducting tests with actual robots, we demonstrate the feasibility of the framework and its capability to seamlessly upload privately maintained blockchain image sequences to Google Maps ® using the Google Street View ® Publish API.

Asymmetric Feedback Learning in Online Convex Games

This paper considers online convex games involving multiple agents that aim to minimize their own cost functions using locally available feedback. A common assumption in the study of such games is that the agents are symmetric, meaning that they have access to the same type of information or feedback. Here we lift this assumption, which is often violated in practice, and instead consider asymmetric agents;specifically, we assume some agents have access to first-order gradient feedback and others have access to the zeroth-order oracles (cost function evaluations). We propose an asymmetric feedback learning algorithm that combines the agent feedback mechanisms. We analyze the regret and Nash equilibrium convergence of this algorithm for convex games and strongly monotone games, respectively. Specifically, we show that our algorithm always performs between pure first-order and zeroth-order methods, and can match the performance of these two extremes by adjusting the number of agents with access to zeroth-order oracles. Therefore, our algorithm incorporates the pure first-order and zeroth-order methods as special cases. We provide numerical experiments on an online market problem for both deterministic and risk-averse games to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. We explore the relationship between quantum Fisher information (QFI) and the second derivative of concurrence with respect to the coupling between two qubits, referred to as the curvature of entanglement (CoE). For a two-qubit quantum probe used to estimate the coupling constant appearing in a simple interaction Hamiltonian, we show that at certain times CoE = −QFI;these times can be associated with the concurrence, viewed as a function of the coupling parameter, being a maximum. We examine the time evolution of the concurrence of the eigenstates of the symmetric logarithmic derivative and show that, for both initially separable and initially entangled states, simple product measurements suffice to saturate the quantum Cramér-Rao bound when CoE = −QFI, while otherwise, in general, entangled measurements are required giving an operational significance to the points in time when CoE = −QFI. Image retargeting involves the adjustment of an image's dimensions to ensure that its content and visual quality are preserved when the image is resized to fit various screens or devices. This process retains all essential visual elements and details. Different techniques have been developed for this purpose, including cropping (CR), scaling (SCL), seam carving (SC), warping (WARP), scale-and-stretch (SNS), multi-operator (MULTI), and shift-map (SM). However, determining the most suitable method for retargeting a specific image with particular dimensions remains a challenge. Therefore, this research introduces initial work on developing CNN based deep learning model and a transfer learning model based on InceptionV3,to predict the optimal retargeting method for a given image and resolution. The study employed a dataset consisting of 46,716 images with varying resolutions, created using different retargeting techniques, categorized into six groups. Results demonstrates a promising effectiveness of the proposed approach for selecting the appropriate retargeting techniques.

Imagined speech production with electrocorticography (ECoG) plays a crucial role in brain-computer interface system. A challenging issue is the great variation underlying the frequency bands of the ECoG signals’ encode information, which makes current methods difficult to generate imagined speech with stable quality among different persons. To this end, we propose a robust model to generate high-quality imagined speech from ECoG. A frequency enhancement branch is first designed to adaptively modulate the frequency information, whose product is fed into the following multi-scale channel attention module for robust feature extraction and fusion. By incorporating both the mel-spectrum and audio as training constraints, a multi-constraint decoder branch is finally constructed for imagined speech production. The performance of our model is evaluated on a high-quality dateset, i.e, Single Word Production Dutch-iBIDS. It yields Pearson correlation scores that are all above 0.8, and the standard deviationsare are all below 0.2 in different volunteers. Experimental results demonstrate that our model is effective and robust for ECoG based imagined speech production, and has advantages over peer methods.

This research aimed to fine-Tune image classification with deep learning techniques to verify the dispensing of prescriptions in hospitals. The proposed approach will be able to help pharmacies reduce the errors that lead to patients receiving the wrong medications. The image classification model uses a double-side transformed image dataset with download from Highlighted Deep Learning (HDL) paper. The dataset collected two-hundred seventy-Two images for types of medicine blister packs, including 72 images of front-side and backside merged with a horizontal cropped background, which were used for training the model. The blister package image dataset uses a deep learning model with a ResNet-101 pre-Trained model from the TensorFlow framework. The experimental results indicated that the TensorFlow framework achieved higher precision, recall, and F1-score than the Caffe framework. A ResNet-101 model with histogram equalization in the front and backside has the highest accuracy at 100 percent. © 2021 IEEE.
