Improve Harris Hawkes optimizer algorithm via Laplace crossover

Nowadays, the speed of solving optimization problems by increasing various issues and the number of variables is critical. The Harris Hawk optimization method is a brand-new, intelligent system that resolves optimization issues by mathematically simulating the natural behavior of hawks. In this study, the Harris Hawks optimization method and the Laplace crossover operator are merged, and a new enhanced Harris Hawks algorithm (LX-HHO) based on the Laplace optimization algorithm is suggested. The purpose of improving this algorithm is to increase the convergence speed while maintaining good accuracy in achieving the optimal solution. The results of the proposed method on the test functions demonstrate that the algorithm has achieved faster convergence than the original version of the Harris Hawks algorithm and other meta-heuristic algorithms. This is due to the algorithm's accuracy in obtaining the best answer in these functions and to a reduction in the evaluation of the optimization function. Also, comparing and evaluating the proposed algorithm with other algorithms by Friedman and MAE test shows the superiority of the LX-HHO algorithm. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Container based microservices have been widely applied to promote the cloud elasticity. The mainstream Docker containers are structured in layers, which are organized in stack with bottom-up dependency. To start a microservice, the required layers are pulled from a remote registry and stored on its host server, following the layer dependency order. This incurs long microservice startup time and hinders the performance efficiency. In this paper, we discover that, for the first time, the layer pulling order can be adjusted to accelerate the microservice startup. Specifically, we address the problem on microservice layer pulling orchestration for startup time minimization and prove it as NP-hard. We propose a Longest-chain based Out-of-order layer Pulling Orchestration (LOPO) strategy with low computational complexity and guaranteed approximation ratio. Through extensive real-world trace driven experiments, we verify the efficiency of our LOPO and demonstrate that it reduces the microservice startup time by 22.71% on average in comparison with state-of-the-art solutions. © 2023 IEEE.

E-participation platforms have emerged as digital tool to facilitate citizen engagement through online deliberation, voting and oversight processes. The digital add-on for participatory democracy (Carole Pateman) can be found in different countries around the world. In Asia, the rollout of two platforms in Taiwan, namely iVoting and Join, has captured the attention of Western media outlets. However, there is little literature on the exact content debated and agreed on these platforms up to this point. Utilising recent advancements in NLP, we explore the content of the proposals that were made. In our study, we combine new approaches of text mining with political analysis on Taiwan’s e-participation platforms. The dataset, which includes 14,118 proposals from 2015 to 2022, has resulted in a distinct topic model being constructed for each platform. With the help of our method, we were able to cluster the proposals thematically and show which concerns were articulated and with how much approval. Based on a random sampling of 110 proposals, we were able to determine that our method assigns 81.82% of the proposals to the corresponding cluster. This can also significantly overcome language barriers, as we employed a translation pipeline within the text-mining process from Chinese into English. Our method is adaptable to e-participation platforms in various languages, providing decision-makers with a more comprehensive tool to understand citizens' needs and enabling the formulation of more informed and effective policies. © 2024 The Authors.

The rapid increase in the population has resulted in traffic jams on the roads. There was a corresponding increase in the number of calls for emergency services, such as ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks. Maintaining rapid response times for emergency vehicles is critical right now. In this study, we present a smart traffic control system that integrates Internet of Things (IoT) chips into traffic signals and modifies their timing parameters. These chips will function in response to a road's estimated automobile count and the subsequent need for emergency vehicles along that route. The number of people in each automobile is going to be calculated using digital image analysis of the live camera feed. To make sure emergency vehicles get the help they require, GPS systems are going to be utilized to track the vehicles and update the chips with their current locations. It is envisioned that traffic lights on a road network will function by dynamically assigning weights for a particular node or the time among two consecutive lights. In order to maintain track of each node in the network, the weights assigned to each one must be updated in real-time. © 2023 IEEE.

Intelligent performance creativity is a new research direction of the intersection of technology and art. At present, the cutting-edge technologies such as computer simulation, emotional computing and machine learning have been applied to the evaluation and enhancement of intelligent performance creativity. The application of these technologies has greatly increased the diversity of performance forms and the complexity of performance content. For the traditional stage performance, due to the lack of timely feedback from the audience, it is difficult for the director to enhance the creativity effec-tively. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes concentration level enhancement method (CLEM). The CLEM extracts and analyzes the physiological and emotional characteristics of the audience by collecting the multimodal physiological signal data of the audience. Through the analysis of the features, the concentration information of the audience is obtained and the concentration level (CL) is defined. Based on the physiological and emotional induction mechanism, a performance creativity enhancement strategy is proposed, which enhances the performance creativity in two aspects: " Visual-based" and " Content-based". Through the concentration level enhancement method, compare the audience’s performance attention changes before and after the performance creativity enhancement, select the effective strategies to enhance the performance creativity, and provide the director with quantifiable performance creativity enhancement feedback results. The experimental results show that the CLEM proposed in this paper can effectively induce significant changes in the audience’s emotion, and the selected creative enhancement strategy can significantly improve the audience’s concentration and achieve the purpose of enhancing the creativity of the performance. © 2023, Journal of Network Intelligence.

Object detection is a fundamental task in computer vision that involves accurately locating and classifying objects within images or video frames. In remote sensing, this task is particularly challenging due to the high resolution, multi-scale features, and diverse ground object characteristics inherent in satellite and UAV imagery. These challenges necessitate more advanced approaches for effective object detection in such environments. While deep learning methods have achieved remarkable success in remote sensing object detection, they typically rely on large amounts of labeled data. Acquiring sufficient labeled data, particularly for novel or rare objects, is both challenging and time-consuming in remote sensing scenarios, limiting the generalization capabilities of existing models. To address these challenges, few-shot learning (FSL) has emerged as a promising approach, aiming to enable models to learn new classes from limited labeled examples. Building on this concept, few-shot object detection (FSOD) specifically targets object detection challenges in data-limited conditions. However, the generalization capability of FSOD models, particularly in remote sensing, is often constrained by the complex and diverse characteristics of the objects present in such environments. In this paper, we propose the Generalization-Enhanced Few-Shot Object Detection (GE-FSOD) model to improve the generalization capability in remote sensing FSOD tasks. Our model introduces three key innovations: the Cross-Level Fusion Pyramid Attention Network (CFPAN) for enhanced multi-scale feature representation, the Multi-Stage Refinement Region Proposal Network (MRRPN) for more accurate region proposals, and the Generalized Classification Loss (GCL) for improved classification performance in few-shot scenarios. GE-FSOD demonstrates superior robustness and accuracy in remote sensing FSOD tasks through these enhancements. Extensive experiments on the DIOR and NWPU VHR-10 datasets show that our

The number of cloud-, edge-, and Internet of Things (IoT)-based applications that produce sensitive and personal data has rapidly increased in recent years. The IoT is a new model that integrates physical objects and the Internet and has become one of the principal technological evolutions of computing. Cloud computing is a paradigm for centralized computing that gathers resources in one place and makes them available to consumers via the Internet. Despite the vast array of resources that cloud computing offers, real-time mobile applications might not find it acceptable because it is typically located far from users. However, in applications where low latency and high dependability are required, edge computing—which disperses resources to the network edge—is becoming more and more popular. Though it has less processing power than traditional cloud computing, edge computing offers resources in a decentralized way that can react to customers' needs more quickly. There has been a sharp increase in attackers stealing data from these applications since the data is so sensitive. Thus, a powerful Intrusion Detection System (IDS) that can identify intruders is required. IDS are essential for the cybersecurity of the IoT, cloud, and edge architectures. Investigators have mostly embraced the use of deep learning algorithms as a means of protecting the IoT environment. However, these techniques have some issues with computational complexity, long processing times, and poor precision. Feature selection approaches can be utilized to overcome these problems. Optimization methods, including bio-inspired algorithms, are applied as feature selection approaches to enhance the classification accuracy of IDS systems. As technology continues to evolve rapidly, cybersecurity has become a critical global concern. The increasing sophistication of cyber threats poses significant risks to individuals, businesses, and governments. To combat these threats, cybersecurity tools play a crucial role in monitoring, detecting, and mitigating security risks in digital environments. These tools ensure data protection, prevent unauthorized access, and safeguard sensitive information. The Smart Power Grid (SPG) is pivotal in orchestrating and managing demand response in contemporary smart cities, leveraging the prowess of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Within the immersive SPG environment, the ubiquitous deployment of smart meters stands as a testament to their paramount importance in the realm of vigilant monitoring and oversight. These smart meters are installed on high-tension electricity lines and transmit information about electricity outages and other issues to the utility center. To access services from utility centers, smart meters need to communicate securely over a public channel, even though the network itself is insecure. However, potential attacks from adversaries ( Ad) can exploit this communication. Therefore, protecting this communication is of utmost importance. Several privacy-preserving authentication protocols designed for SPG have been introduced in the literature. Nevertheless, a significant number of these protocols exhibit vulnerabilities to diverse security attacks. This article introduces a lightweight and anonymous authentication protocol specifically designed to address these concerns in the SPG environment. Our protocol ensures both security and efficiency, surpassing other comparable protocols in terms of its lightweight nature. By employing both formal and informal analysis, we showcase the robustness of our protocol against significant attacks while remaining lightweight. The proposed protocol provides added security features and incurs 23.8879% lower computation cost than related protocols. Consequently, our protocol is highly suitable for implementation in the SPG system. © 2020 IEEE.
