Rationale and Objectives: Women in the fields of radiology and medical physics lack advancement opportunities and are under-represented in leadership positions. There is a paucity of research on specific interventions to address this problem. Materials and Methods: We developed and launched the “Women-Focused Faculty and Trainee Development program” at an academic university to improve gender-based knowledge gaps contributing to lack of promotional advancement and leadership opportunities. An eight-event curriculum was developed based on educational gaps identified on pre-intervention surveys;assessment of goal fulfillment was determined by post-intervention surveys. Results: Pre-intervention, 62% of women faculty were satisfied with their pace of professional advancement and 69% believed they would be promoted at an appropriate time compared to 100% post-intervention (p-value 0.008 and 0.02, respectively). The pre-intervention survey demonstrated that the top three obstacles to professional development were lack of adequate mentorship, inadequate resources for research, and limited understanding of promotion and tenure. Post-intervention data demonstrated that 88% of women faculty and trainees believed the program helped them achieve their goals. The majority of all program participants (both men and women) agreed their knowledge had increased on all curriculum topics. There were differences in perceptions of gender inequities between men and women on several topics including whether fewer women pursue academic promotion, whether fewer women do not pursue promotion due to lack of institutional/departmental support, and whether there are departmental discrepancies in salary, all statistically significant. Conclusion: With implementation of a formal development program, significant positive impacts on women's ability to achieve professional goals, gain mentorship opportunities, and improve satisfaction with their pace of professional advancement can be achieved. © 20

Smoking habits in Indonesia has become a national health burden despite their huge contribution to national economics. With easy access to inexpensive cigarettes in Indonesia, the percentage of teenage smokers in Indonesia is very high. More than 70% of these smokers have tried to quit, but only approximately 5% have succeeded. These facts show the importance of developing precision stop smoking treatments. We proposed an information system design of smoking measurement questionnaire that is able to describe the characteristic differences between smokers and former smokers. This information system design was implemented in genetic service company's web-based application and is expected to help us extract the necessary variables to help us finding biomarkers associated with smoking cessation in our future study. The information system design has been developed by combining and modifying questionnaires from previous studies. The focus is on strategic variables and the compactness of the questionnaire, and it can be used by other researchers to describe the smoking dependency of their samples. The information system design has been tested on pilot respondents/customers and shows results that meet our expectations. © 2021 IEEE.

The Washington StateClimeTime Networkhas been designed to build capacity for climate science learning, as well as broader NGSS implementation. As a network, we acknowledge the diversity of scientific histories and practices and continue to explore these variations to deepen our teaching and learning of climate science. This paper provides visions of what we mean by climate science centered learning, principles for fostering climate science learning, and guidance for capacity-building to achieve systemic implementation of climate science learning.

The vision of 2030STEM is to address systemic barriers in institutional structures and funding mechanisms required to achieve full inclusion in science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and accelerate leadership pathways for individuals from underrepresented populations across STEM sectors. 2030STEM takes a systems-level approach to create a community of practice that affirms diverse cultural identities in STEM. Accelerated systemic change is needed to achieve parity and representation in the STEM workforce, and mentorship is crucial to retain talent by ensuring those underrepresented in STEM feel that they belong and can thrive. To support the studies and careers of those underrepresented in STEM, we must increase mentors who have received adequate training in the discipline of mentorship, including cross-cultural mentoring, use of evidence-based mentorship tools to improve the outcomes of mentor/mentee relationships, and mentorship at the institutional versus individual level. This paper is part of a series of white papers based on 2030STEM Salons that bring together innovative thinkers invested in creating a better STEM world for all. Our first salon focused on the power of social media campaigns like the #XinSTEM initiatives, to accelerate change towards inclusion and leadership by underrepresented communities in STEM: #Change: How Social Media is Accelerating STEM Inclusion[1]. This second paper of the series provides a summary of research-based mentorship practices that have worked at improving the experience in STEM for underrepresented groups. Shaw was a student in the interdisciplinary Integrative Conservation program. Julie Coffield recently returned to the faculty after serving as Associate Dean of the Graduate School. She also formerly directed the Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program at UGA. Nik Heynen is the immediate past director of the interdisciplinary Integrative Conservation program.

This article explores the impact of a critical pedagogy of forensic science approach combined with an immersive field experience to train student members of a volunteer humanitarian forensic science team in preparation for immersion in the politically charged and emotionally challenging conditions surrounding migrant death at the United States-Mexico Border. Utilizing self-reflections from student team members before and after their fieldwork, the impact of a holistic and multi-faceted training approach can be evaluated. The goal of this training approach is to produce capable forensic scientists, as well as anthropologists who recognize the power structures inherent in such situations and subsequently work to kindle social change. Comparing expectations before fieldwork to experiences obtained during fieldwork can be a powerful way to gauge their progress in a transformative learning process.
