The aims of this study were to perform a detailed analysis of the chemical composition by gas chromatography, cinematic viscosity in function of temperature by viscometer Schott AVS 350, and biological tests of abóbora (Cucurbita argyrosperma) seed oil, collected in Mucajai city, Roraima state, Brazil. Thus, the abóbora seed samples were manually submitted to the oven at 50 °C for 72 hours, and crushed and sieved between 20-40 Mesh. The seed oil extraction was carried out in a Soxhlet apparatus with hexane for 3 hours, providing an oil yield of 29.8%. In the results were identified a total of 8 fatty acids by gas chromatography;of these 33.8% are saturated fatty acids and 65.7% are unsaturated fatty acids: palmitic (21.5%), stearic (11.6%), oleic (37.0%), linoleic (28.1%) and linolenic (0.3%). In the biological test, the oil was more active against Staphylococcus aureus (29.01%), Listeria monocytogenes (34.56%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (23.86%) and Citrobacter freundii (32.74%), which features a characteristic low therapeutic index for these bacteria. The kinematic viscosity of the oil reduces in function of temperature (298.15 to 353.15 K) in an exponential curve, demonstrating to refer to a Newtonian fluid. Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is a freshwater fish that is widely cultivated throughout Indonesia due to its importance commodity and high market prospect. Intensive aquaculture system to increase production has risks, including fish easily infected with the bacteria Aeromonas hydrophila or motile aeromonad septicaemia (MAS) disease in catfish. Alternative efforts to control MAS disease is by using natural source from marine fungal Mycelium sterilium KT31 metabolites. The purpose of this study was to determine the effective dose of fungal Mycelium sterilium KT31 metabolites in feed for preventing and treating infections caused by A. hydrophila in catfish. The feed was prepared by repelleting method and given restricted three times a day. The bacterial concentration used for the challenge test was density of 106 CFU/mL A. hydrophila as much as 0.1 mL per individual. This research was divided into two stage that the preventive experiment and treatment experiment with the different time challenge. Metabolites M. sterilium KT31 dose of 40 mL kg−1 of feed was able to preventing and treating A. hydrophila infection with a better blood value, resulting in the best survival rate and growth rate of catfish.

Background: Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, and affects people regardless of country, age group, or sex. Using the most recent evidentiary and analytical framework from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD), we produced location-specific, age-specific, and sex-specific estimates of diabetes prevalence and burden from 1990 to 2021, the proportion of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in 2021, the proportion of the type 2 diabetes burden attributable to selected risk factors, and projections of diabetes prevalence through 2050. Methods: Estimates of diabetes prevalence and burden were computed in 204 countries and territories, across 25 age groups, for males and females separately and combined;these estimates comprised lost years of healthy life, measured in disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs;defined as the sum of years of life lost [YLLs] and years lived with disability [YLDs]). We used the Cause of Death Ensemble model (CODEm) approach to estimate deaths due to diabetes, incorporating 25 666 location-years of data from vital registration and verbal autopsy reports in separate total (including both type 1 and type 2 diabetes) and type-specific models. Other forms of diabetes, including gestational and monogenic diabetes, were not explicitly modelled. Total and type 1 diabetes prevalence was estimated by use of a Bayesian meta-regression modelling tool, DisMod-MR 2.1, to analyse 1527 location-years of data from the scientific literature, survey microdata, and insurance claims;type 2 diabetes estimates were computed by subtracting type 1 diabetes from total estimates. Mortality and prevalence estimates, along with standard life expectancy and disability weights, were used to calculate YLLs, YLDs, and DALYs. ObjectiveThe aim of this review was to assess the factors influencing the occupational stress of state security forces during the COVID-19 *** conducted a scoping review using the Pubmed, Scopus, and Web of science databases, adhering to the PRISMA statement standards and the guidelines for narrative *** included a total of 26 studies. The prevalence of stress varied from 22% to 87.2%. Factors that may have influenced the stress levels of police officers during the pandemic include not having basic personal protective equipment, having little or no rest periods between tasks, long working hours, fear of contagion to themselves or others, pressure to maintain law and order, emotion regulation and preparedness, sex, marital status, work experience, age, presence of chronic underlying illnesses, family-work conflict, lack of psychological support, and others. The long working hours, the fear of infecting themselves or others, the pressure to maintain law and order, sex, and age are the six main factors evaluated for more ***, situational, and personal factors may have influenced the stress levels of police officers during the pandemic, and measures need to be taken to minimise their impact.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a heterogeneous disease that develops through diverse pathophysiological processes and molecular mechanisms that are often specific to cell type. Here, to characterize the genetic contribution to these processes across ancestry groups, we aggregate genome-wide association study data from 2,535,601 individuals (39.7% not of European ancestry), including 428,452 cases of T2D. We identify 1,289 independent association signals at genome-wide significance (P < 5 × 10) that map to 611 loci, of which 145 loci are, to our knowledge, previously unreported. We define eight non-overlapping clusters of T2D signals that are characterized by distinct profiles of cardiometabolic trait associations. These clusters are differentially enriched for cell-type-specific regions of open chromatin, including pancreatic islets, adipocytes, endothelial cells and enteroendocrine cells. We build cluster-specific partitioned polygenic scores in a further 279,552 individuals of diverse ancestry, including 30,288 cases of T2D, and test their association with T2D-related vascular outcomes. Cluster-specific partitioned polygenic scores are associated with coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease and end-stage diabetic nephropathy across ancestry groups, highlighting the importance of obesity-related processes in the development of vascular outcomes. Our findings show the value of integrating multi-ancestry genome-wide association study data with single-cell epigenomics to disentangle the aetiological heterogeneity that drives the development and progression of T2D. This might offer a route to optimize global access to genetically informed diabetes care.

Background Sedentary behaviors (ST) are linked to children's mental health, including internalizing and externalizing problems. Research on these associations in children with overweight/obesity is limited. To this end, we examined cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between sedentary time (ST) and behavioral problems in children with overweight/obesity, followed by an investigation of potential sex-related differences. Methods We included 2273 children with overweight/obesity (49.9 % boys) from the UK Millennium Cohort Study. Accelerometer-measured sedentary time (ST) and MVPA were collected at age 7, and behavioral problems were assessed at ages 7 and 11 via the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). General linear models were used to examine how ST at 7 years of age was cross-sectionally and longitudinally associated with externalizing and internalizing, while ethnicity, SDQ scores, parental psychological distress, highest parental education, household poverty, and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) were statistically controlled. These analyses are followed by an analysis investigating sex-related differences. Results In the cross-sectional analyses, more ST was associated with fewer externalizing problems at 7 years among boys (β: −0.008, 95 % CI: −0.013, −0.003) and girls (β: −0.006, 95 % CI: −0.011, −0.001) without controlling for MVPA. More ST at 7 years was associated with fewer externalizing problems (β: −0.010, 95 %CI: −0.015, −0.004) only among boys when adjusting for MVPA. In the longitudinal analysis, more ST at 7 years was associated with fewer externalizing problems at 11 years for boys (β: −0.006, 95 %CI: −0.010, −0.001) and girls (β: −0.007, 95 %CI: −0.012, −0.002) without controlling for MVPA. When adjusting for MVPA at 7 years, more ST at 7 years was associated with fewer externalizing problems at 11 years for girls (β: −0.006, 95 %CI: −0.013, 0.000). INTRODUCTION: Cognitively unimpaired (CU) amyloid beta (Aβ)+ individuals with elevated plasma glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) have an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related progression. We tested the utility of plasma GFAP for population enrichment CU populations in clinical trials. METHODS: We estimated longitudinal progression, effect size, and costs of hypothetical clinical trials designed to test an estimated 25% drug effect on reducing tau positron emission tomography (PET) accumulation in the medial temporal lobe (MTL) and temporal neocortical region (NEO-T). RESULTS: CU GFAP+/Aβ+ individuals present an increased annual rate of change and effect size in tau PET_MTL and tau PET_NEO-T compared to the other groups. An enrichment strategy selecting CU GFAP+/Aβ+ individuals would require a smaller sample size (≈ 57% reduction) and fewer Aβ PET scans (≈ 74% reduction) than trials enriched with Aβ PET alone, reducing total clinical trial costs by up to 64%. DISCUSSION: Our results suggest that clinical trials focusing on preclinical AD recruiting Aβ+ individuals with elevated GFAP levels would improve cost effectiveness. Highlights: Cognitively unimpaired (CU) glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)+/amyloid beta (Aβ)+ shows increased changes in tau positron emission tomography (PET). CU GFAP+/Aβ+ enriched clinical trials require a reduced sample size compared to Aβ+ only. CU GFAP+/Aβ+ enrichment reduces Aβ PET scans required and costs. CU GFAP+/Aβ+ enrichment allows the selection of individuals at early stages of the Alzheimer's disease continuum. © 2025 The Author(s). We search for gravitational-wave (GW) transients associated with fast radio bursts (FRBs) detected by the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment Fast Radio Burst Project, during the first part of the third observing run of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo (2019 April 1 15:00 UTC-2019 October 1 15:00 UTC). Triggers from 22 FRBs were analyzed with a search that targets both binary neutron star (BNS) and neutron star-black hole (NSBH) mergers. A targeted search for generic GW transients was conducted on 40 FRBs. We find no significant evidence for a GW association in either search. Given the large uncertainties in the distances of our FRB sample, we are unable to exclude the possibility of a GW association. Assessing the volumetric event rates of both FRB and binary mergers, an association is limited to 15% of the FRB population for BNS mergers or 1% for NSBH mergers. We report 90% confidence lower bounds on the distance to each FRB for a range of GW progenitor models and set upper limits on the energy emitted through GWs for a range of emission scenarios. We find values of order 10⁵¹-10⁵⁷ erg for models with central GW frequencies in the range 70-3560 Hz. At the sensitivity of this search, we find these limits to be above the predicted GW emissions for the models considered. We also find no significant coincident detection of GWs with the repeater, FRB 20200120E, which is the closest known extragalactic FRB. © 2023. The Author(s). The aim of this study was to determine the chemical composition (IR), characterize minerals (ICP-OES), antioxidant activity, total phenols, inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and antimicrobial activity of leaf extract of wild passion fruit (Passiflora foetida L.). The results obtained by Infrared of the hexane extract indicate the presence of aliphatic compounds such as fatty acids and esters, long chain alcohols and steroids. The major minerals were: phosphorus (1093.00 mg L-1), magnesium (418.77 mg L-1), sulfur (282.56 mg L-1) and potassium (157.46 mg L-1). The total phenolic content was 16.78 mg of gallic acid equivalent 100 g-1 extract. The hexane extract showed inhibition of 17.97% for antioxidant activity. The activity on AChE was 96.46% inhibition. As for microorganisms, the extract showed inhibition on Gram-positive bacteria Bacillus cereus (77.93%), Staphylococcus aureus (88.25%), Gram-negative Citrobacter freundii (82.74%), Salmonella typhimurium (83.21%) and yeast C. albicans (53.29%). Background: Silicone implants are biomaterials that are frequently used in the medical industry due to their physiological inertness and low toxicity. However, capsular contracture remains a concern in long-term transplantation. To date, several studies have been conducted to overcome this problem. This review summarizes and explores these trends. Main body: First, we examined the overall foreign body response from initial inflammation to fibrosis capsule formation in detail and introduced various studies to overcome capsular contracture. Secondly, we introduced that the main research approaches are to inhibit fibrosis with anti-inflammatory drugs or antibiotics, to control the topography of the surface of silicone implants, and to administer plasma treatment. Each study examined aspects of the various mechanisms by which capsular contracture could occur, and addressed the effects of inhibiting fibrosis. Conclusion: This review introduces various silicone surface modification methods to date and examines their limitations. This review will help identify new directions in inhibiting the fibrosis of silicone implants. © 2018 The Author(s).
