One of the research challenges for 4G-wireless systems is the design of mobility management techniques that integrate cellular and ad-hoc networks. Currently there are no structured mobility management schemes for these heterogeneous multi-hop networks. In this paper we propose an adaptive protocol for mobility management in multi-hop heterogeneous networks (M/sup 3/HN) for seamless mobility in an integrated cellular and ad-hoc network. This paper describes techniques for tracking a mobile node in a multi-hop network with minimum overhead. Using M/sup 3/HN a node can migrate from a single-hop network to a multi-hop connectivity seamlessly. This scheme is independent of the routing protocol used in a multi-hop network.

This paper provides a generalized approach for building a QoS based registry for service oriented architecture. This framework enhances the current universal description, discovery and integration (UDDI) standard in order to achieve better search efficiency and improved quality of search based on user specified QoS parameters. The proposed model does not require any changes or modification to the current UDDI standard but provides a middleware repository that is used to store a valid subset of the UDDI data with QoS specifications. The proposed framework is expandable to include additional quality of service parameters depending on the application. The implementation of this framework illustrates the effectiveness of our proposed QoS based registry.

The growing popularity of service oriented computing based on Web services standards is creating a need for paradigms to represent and design business processes. Significant work has been done in the representation aspects with regards to WSBPEL. However, design and modeling of business processes is still an open issue. In this paper, we present a novel designer for business processes, which allows for intuitive modeling of Web processes, as well as using a template based approach for semi-automatically integrating partners either at design time or at deployment time. This work has been done as part of the METEOR-S project, which concentrates on adding semantics to the entire Web process lifecycle.

Historically, a large number of small and cheaper sensors are deployed to form a sensor network. This paper provides rationale behind using an aggregate logical sensor unit (ALSU) as a building block in a Wireless Sensory Information network (WSIN). In this architecture, a single ALSU is composed of many off-the-shelf sensor nodes in the manner similar to the Beowulf cluster concept. The highly capable, cost effective and flexible ALSUs built in this manner from several smaller physical sensor nodes, would enable high computation power and built-in reliability for sensor applications. The objective of this paper is to provide an alternative where energy and computation is not a limiting factor in order to achieve the operational objectives of WSIN applications. This paper highlights critical issues that need to be addressed in developing a framework where each ALSU could have the capability to perform required operations as dictated by an underlying application

Resource management for individual flows can significantly improve quality of service (QoS) in mobile cellular networks. However, its efficiency depends on the availability of information about the movement of mobile terminals. Movement prediction can potentially provide this information, but is costly if performed by the network and usually assumes a certain movement model, which may not adequately reflect each individual user's behavior. Instead, we propose the concept of movement contracts, where a mobile terminal specifies its movement to the network, which in return provides a better QoS as long as the provided specification is sufficiently accurate. We describe approaches to specify the spatial and temporal aspects of movement with a parsimonious parameter set and evaluate these approaches through simulations. We find that movement contracts can significantly reduce both session blocking and handover dropping probability simultaneously, whereas existing approaches have to make a tradeoff between these.

Refactoring in object-orientation has gained increased attention due to its ability to improve design quality. Refactoring using design patterns (DPs) leads to production of high quality software systems. Although numerous tools related to refactoring exist, only a few of them apply design patterns in refactoring. Even these do not clearly specify where refactoring can be applied and when to apply appropriate design patterns. In this paper, we propose a tool, JIAD (Java based Intent-Aspects Detector) which addresses the refactoring issues such as, the scope for applying DPs in the code and the appropriate selection of DPs. The tool automates the identification of Intent-Aspects (IAs) which helps in applying suitable design patterns while refactoring the Java code. By automating the process of identifying IAs, the whole process of refactoring using DPs can be automated which enables rapid development of software systems. Also, the tool minimizes the number of possible errors while inferring the suitable DPs to apply refactoring. Our approach primarily focuses on Java code refactoring using declarative programming and AspectJ compiler. Finally, the tool is validated using two applications namely, JLex and Java2Prolog written in Java.

While the use of network intrusion detection systems (nIDS) is becoming pervasive, evaluating nIDS performance has been found to be challenging. The goal of this study is to determine how to generate realistic workloads for nIDS performance evaluation. We develop a workload model that appears to provide reasonably accurate estimates compared to real workloads. The model attempts to emulate a traffic mix of different applications, reflecting characteristics of each application and the way these interact with the system. We have implemented this model as part of a traffic generator that can be extended and tuned to reflect the needs of different scenarios. We also present an approach to measuring the capacity of a nIDS that does not require the setup of a full network testbed. security, intrusion detection, workload characterization and generation.

Information retrieval over semantic metadata has recently received a great amount of interest in both industry and academia. In particular, discovering complex and meaningful relationships among this data is becoming an active research topic. Just as ranking of documents is a critical component of today's search engines, the ranking of relationships will be essential in tomorrow's semantic analytics engines. Building upon our recent work on specifying these semantic relationships, which we refer to as Semantic Associations, we demonstrate a system where these associations are discovered among a large semantic metabase represented in RDF. Additionally we employ ranking techniques to provide users with the most interesting and relevant results.
