Joint Secure and Covert Communications for Active STAR-RIS Assisted ISAC Systems

This paper investigates the design of jointly supporting physical layer security (PLS) and covert communications (CCs) in an active simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (a-STAR-RIS) assisted integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system. Due to the unified waveform design of ISAC signals, we consider a challenging scenario with two targets being suspicious attackers, where one warden target potentially detects the confidential transmission behavior of covert users and another eavesdropper target attempts to intercept the broadcasted confidential information of security users. We investigate the joint beamforming design at the base station (BS) and the a-STAR-RIS to achieve a high-quality sensing beampattern while meeting covertness and security communication requirements. (1) For the ideal scenario with perfect channel state information (CSI) and precise target locations, we propose an alternative optimization (AO) method to address the optimization problem involving highly coupled variables. Specifically, the optimal beamforming design at the BS is handled using the semi-definite relaxation (SDR) technique, while the beamforming design at the a-STAR-RIS is addressed through a penalty-based iterative algorithm. (2) A more practical case with uncertain target locations and imperfect CSI is considered to achieve a robust beamforming design, where the non-deterministic outage probability constraints are effectively transformed by employing the Bernstein-type inequality. Numerical results demonstrate the superiority of the a-STAR-RIS over the baseline cases and certify that the proposed algorithms can effectively balance the tradeoff among the sensing quality, covert and secure communication requirements. Besides, results also show that the proposed robust beamforming scheme can construct adequate sensing beampattern, even with imperfect CSI and uncertain target locations. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Due to the network's rapid expansion, mobile networks bear extra high deployment costs. Being a key enabler of 6th generation (6G) mobile networks, it is crucial that cell-free massive MIMO (CF mMIMO) networks achieve green and cost-effective development. In this correspondence, we propose spatio-temporal graph neural networks (STGNN)-based CF mMIMO networks with a maximal benefit-cost ratio. First, we formulate a new coverage cost metric named benefit-cost ratio (BCR), which can evaluate the deployment cost while fulfilling various traffic requirements. Next, CF mMIMO networks are modeled as a spatio-temporal graph to utilize STGNN to extract the spatial-temporal properties of traffic demands. Finally, STGNN optimizes the number and location of access points (APs) based on the maximal BCR criterion so that the CF mMIMO networks can achieve on-demand service capability with minimum deployment cost. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the deployment cost while providing on-demand and high-quality mobile service. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Auxo: an architecture-centric framework supporting the online tuning of software adaptivity

Adaptivity is the capacity of software to adjust itself to changes in its environment. A common approach to achieving adaptivity is to introduce dedicated code during software development stage. However,since those code fragments are designed a priori, self-adaptive software cannot handle situations adequately when the contextual changes go beyond those that are originally anticipated. In this case, the original builtin adaptivity should be tuned. For example, new code should be added to provide the capacity to sense the unexpected environment or to replace outdated adaptation decision logic. The technical challenges in this process, especially that of tuning software adaptivity at runtime, cannot be understated. In this paper,we propose an architecture-centric application framework for self-adaptive software named Auxo. Similar to existing work, our framework supports the development and running of self-adaptive software. Furthermore,our framework supports the tuning of software adaptivity without requiring the running self-adaptive software to be terminated. In short, the architecture style that we are introducing can encapsulate not only general functional logic but also the concerns in the self-adaptation loop(such as sensing, decision, and execution)as architecture elements. As a result, a third party, potentially the operator or an augmented software entity equipped with explicit domain knowledge, is able to dynamically and flexibly adjust the self-adaptation concerns through modifying the runtime software architecture. To truly exercise, validate, and evaluate our approach,we describe a self-adaptive application that was deployed on the framework, and conducted several experiments involving self-adaptation and the online tuning of software adaptivity.

Web based services and applications have increased the availability and accessibility of information. XML (eXtensible Markup Language) has recently emerged as an important standard in the area of information representation. XML documents can represent information at different levels of sensitivity. Access control for XML document stores must recognise the fine-grained nature of the document structure. In this paper we present an approach to access control for XML document stores. This framework is based on RBAC and includes a syntax for specifying access control policies for the store. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2001.

In the fields of computational biology and healthcare systems, there is a growing use of genomic data from cancer to improve diagnostic accuracy and to formulate patient-specific tumor treatment strategies. Cancer genomics allow researchers to define the genome instabilities and mutations associated with tumor growth, poor diagnosis, and immune cells heterogeneity in the cancer context. This molecular taxonomy of cancer provides a more precise diagnosis to better fight solid tumors and enhance the treatment strategy. Single-cell RNA sequencing techniques in cancer re-search enable the detailed examination of gene expression on a cell-by-cell basis, shedding light on the diversity within the tumor microenvironment. In addition, they can reconstruct evolutionary lineages and detect rare subpopulations. It is important to perform pan-cancer analysis to examine the similarities and dissimilarities in different tumor microenvironments. This study provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of T-cell populations across breast, colorectal, liver, lung, and pancreatic cancers, unveiling T-cell heterogeneity and gene expression patterns specific to these tumors. By analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing data from breast, colorectal, liver, lung, and pancreatic cancers, our research fills a crucial gap in understanding the diverse immune environments of these malignancies. The study highlights similarities and differences in T-cell populations across these cancers, providing insights for cancer immunotherapy strategies. Our insights into gene expression correlations with tumor progression have significant implications for immunotherapy strategies, suggesting potential biomarkers for personalized treatment approaches and highlighting key molecular targets for future therapeutic development. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Multi-dataset learning with channel modulation loss for blind image quality assessment

In Blind Image Quality Assessment (BIQA), due to the problem of laborious labeling, it is perceived as the intractability of collecting a new large-scale dataset that has plentiful images with a large diversity in distortion and scene. Therefore, to develop a general model, training with data from diverse datasets could be a viable solution and hold significant value. A straightforward solution is to mix multiple datasets to train a robust model. However, as IQA datasets vary in terms of distortion types and labeling mechanisms, models fail to adapt well across various datasets. To solve the multi-dataset adaption problem, we propose a Channel Modulation Loss that encourages each channel to adaptively enhance/diminish dataset-corresponding features. In detail, when training a CNN with data from all the datasets, certain channels acquire knowledge that can be applied across some datasets, whereas others are only effective for a specific dataset. Therefore, we propose a dataset-specific kernel as supervision, by which channel attention can be explicitly optimized to emphasize the channels corresponding to the dataset of an input image. Finally, extensive experiments on six IQA databases show the promise of the learned method in blindly assessing image quality. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

network traffic is very important for testing network equipment, network services, and security products. A new method of generating traffic based on statistical packet-level characteristics is proposed. In every time unit, the generator determines the sent packets number, the type and size of every sent packet according to the statistical characteristics of the original traffic. Then every packet, in which the protocol headers of transport layer, network layer and ethernet layer are encapsulated, is sent via the responding network interface card in the time unit. The results in the experiment show that the correlation coefficients between the bandwidth, the packet number, packet size distribution, the fragment number of the generated network traffic and those of the original traffic are all more than 0.96. The generated traffic and original traffic are very highly related and similar.

A 2-stage strategy updating rule promotes cooperation in the prisoner's dilemma game

In this study,we propose a spatial prisoner＇s dilemma game model with a 2-stage strategy updating rule,and focus on the cooperation behavior of the *** the first stage,i.e.,the pre-learning stage,a focal player decides whether to update his strategy according to the pre-learning factor β and the payoff difference between himself and the average of his *** the player makes up his mind to update,he enters into the second stage,i.e.,the learning stage,and adopts a strategy of a randomly selected neighbor according to the standard Fermi updating *** simulation results show that the cooperation level has a non-trivial dependence on the pre-learning ***,the cooperation frequency decreases as the pre-learning factor increases;but a high cooperation level can be obtained in the intermediate region of- 3〈 β 〈-*** then give some explanations via studying the co-action of pre-learning and *** results may sharpen the understanding of the influence of the strategy updating rule on evolutionary games.

Decision making framework for heterogeneous QoS information: an application to cloud service selection

In recent times, appropriate decision-making in challenging and critical situations has been very well supported by multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. The technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is the most widely used MCDM method for solving decision problems. However, it restricts decision-makers to use only one type of Quality of Service (QoS) information, and it suffers from the rank reversal problem. Restriction to only one type of QoS makes the decision problems more challenging, as it restricts the decision-makers freedom. Further, the rank reversal problem makes the decision result unreliable. To address these issues of TOPSIS, we have proposed a reliable rank reversal robust modular TOPSIS (RMo-TOPSIS). RMo-TOPSIS allows crisp, interval, fuzzy, intuitionistic and neutrosophic fuzzy QoS metrics. It does not suffer from the rank reversal problem. Cloud computing provides computing services on-demand basis without involving maintenance by its users. The availability of many cloud service providers and their services makes cloud service selection a challenging problem. To validate RMo-TOPSIS, we select the cloud service selection consisting of different types of QoS metrics as an application. Experiments on cloud service selection show consistency and accuracy in results obtained by RMo-TOPSIS and its robustness against rank reversal. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.
