Segment Anything Model (SAM) has recently gained much attention for its outstanding generalization to unseen data and tasks. Despite its promising prospect, the vulnerabilities of SAM, especially to universal adversarial perturbation (UAP) have not been thoroughly investigated yet. In this paper, we propose DarkSAM, the first prompt-free universal attack framework against SAM, including a semantic decoupling-based spatial attack and a texture distortion-based frequency attack. We first divide the output of SAM into foreground and background. Then, we design a shadow target strategy to obtain the semantic blueprint of the image as the attack target. DarkSAM is dedicated to fooling SAM by extracting and destroying crucial object features from images in both spatial and frequency domains. In the spatial domain, we disrupt the semantics of both the foreground and background in the image to confuse SAM. In the frequency domain, we further enhance the attack effectiveness by distorting the high-frequency components (i.e., texture information) of the image. Consequently, with a single UAP, DarkSAM renders SAM incapable of segmenting objects across diverse images with varying prompts. Experimental results on four datasets for SAM and its two variant models demonstrate the powerful attack capability and transferability of DarkSAM. As software engineering advances and the code demand rises, the prevalence of code clones has increased. This phenomenon poses risks like vulnerability propagation, underscoring the growing importance of code clone detection techniques. While numerous code clone detection methods have been proposed, they often fall short in real-world code environments. They either struggle to identify code clones effectively or demand substantial time and computational resources to handle complex clones. This paper introduces a code clone detection method namely Toma using tokens and machine learning. Specifically, we extract token type sequences and employ six similarity calculation methods to generate feature vectors. These vectors are then input into a trained machine learning model for classification. To evaluate the effectiveness and scalability of Toma, we conduct experiments on the widely used BigCloneBench dataset. Results show that our tool outperforms token-based code clone detectors and most tree-based clone detectors, demonstrating high effectiveness and significant time savings. © 2024 ACM.

Federated Learning enables collaboratively model training among a number of distributed devices with the coordination of a centralized server, where each device alternatively performs local gradient computation and communication to the server. FL suffers from significant performance degradation due to the excessive communication delay between the server and devices, especially when the network bandwidth of these devices is limited, which is common in edge environments. Existing methods overlap the gradient computation and communication to hide the communication latency to accelerate the FL training. However, the overlapping can also lead to an inevitable gap between the local model in each device and the global model in the server that seriously restricts the convergence rate of learning process. To address this problem, we propose a new overlapping method for FL, AOCC-FL, which aligns the local model with the global model via calibrated compensation such that the communication delay can be hidden without deteriorating the convergence performance. Theoretically, we prove that AOCC-FL admits the same convergence rate as the non-overlapping method. On both simulated and testbed experiments, we show that AOCC-FL achieves a comparable convergence rate relative to the non-overlapping method while outperforming the state-of-the-art overlapping methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Facial recognition techniques are used extensively in areas like online payments, education, and social media. Traditionally, these applications relied on powerful cloud-based systems, but advancements in edge computing have changed this, enabling fast and reliable local processing in complex and extreme environments. However, new challenges arise in availability and durability insurance to make the system run 24/7 with acceptable performance. This paper proposes a novel solution to these challenging settings. First, we use edge devices for local data processing, reducing the need for cloud communication and enhancing user privacy. Second, we implement an adaptive control strategy to improve energy management in these devices. Lastly, we establish a solar-powered energy system to facilitate long-term device operation. The experiments show our approach strikes a balance between performance, quality, and durability, enabling facial recognition systems to work energy-efficiently in complex environments. Meanwhile, considering the limited resources of devices in extreme cases, we also proposed a learning-based approach to accelerate the solution generation. IEEE

Mobile prices play a pivotal role in determining their popularity amongst consumers and their competitive standing within the market. As customers consider their budget while evaluating a mobile phone's specifications and design, estimating the price beforehand becomes essential to cater to their needs and expectations. Hence, accurately forecasting mobile phone prices is a vital step in the product launch process to remain competitive and assess the market dynamics and competitors. The primary aim of this research is to determine the true market value of mobile phones. In this research, the dataset was extracted by means of utilizing a web scraping process from the flipkart website. The main objective of this research is to fetch the most recent dataset based on the most recent features. The extracted dataset is fitted into regression models such as linear regression, decision tree regressor, random forest regressor, KNN regressor, and gradient boosting regressor and performs the comparative analysis. The models are evaluated based on the mean absolute error metric. © 2024 IEEE.

Bias fields adversely affect various automatic analysis technologies. Therefore, bias field correction is essential. However, deep learning based methods encounter challenges in obtaining ground truth. Although existing methods attempt to address this problem by using training-free techniques or constructing datasets with approximations of the ground truth, the lack of task-oriented guidance, training instability, and inappropriate use of approximations still impact performance. Additionally, different approaches for bias field correction, i.e., estimating bias fields versus directly restoring clean images, exhibit different performances. However, there is no consensus on the best way, resulting in limited performance in some cases. To address these problems, we propose a bias field generation method to construct the dataset and provide task-oriented information. We then propose the concept of Equivalent of Residual Mapping (ERM) to analyze the advantages of estimating bias fields. According to ERM, we propose the Bias field Estimation Convolutional Neural Network (BECNN). Finally, we propose the Dual Route Implicit Supervised Learning (DRISL) strategy to balance the guidance derived from approximations of the ground truth with over-dependence on them. The proposed method is compared qualitatively and quantitatively with the correlated methods. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed method performs effectively both on bias field estimation and correction. © 2024 IEEE.

Background Determining how an image is visually appealing is a complicated and subjective task. This motivates the use of a machine-learning model to evaluate image aesthetics automatically by matching the aesthetics of the general public. Although deep learning methods have successfully learned good visual features from images,correctly assessing the aesthetic quality of an image remains a challenge for deep learning. Methods To address this, we propose a novel multiview convolutional neural network to assess image aesthetics assessment through color composition and space formation(IAACS). Specifically, from different views of an image––including its key color components and their contributions, the image space formation, and the image itself––our network extracts the corresponding features through our proposed feature extraction module(FET) and the Image Net weight-based classification model. Result By fusing the extracted features, our network produces an accurate prediction score distribution for image aesthetics. The experimental results show that we have achieved superior performance.

ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot, offers coherent and useful replies based on analysis of large volumes of data. In this article, leading academics, scientists, distinguish researchers and engineers discuss the transformative effects of ChatGPT on modern education. This research discusses ChatGPT capabilities and its use in the education sector, identifies potential concerns and challenges. Our preliminary evaluation shows that ChatGPT perform differently in different subject areas including finance, coding, maths, and general public queries. While ChatGPT has the ability to help educators by creating instructional content, offering suggestions and acting as an online educator to learners by answering questions, transforming education through smartphones and IoT gadgets, and promoting group work, there are clear drawbacks in its use, such as the possibility of producing inaccurate or false data and circumventing duplicate content (plagiarism) detectors where originality is essential. The often reported "hallucinations" within GenerativeAI in general, and also relevant for ChatGPT, can render its use of limited benefit where accuracy is essential. What ChatGPT lacks is a stochastic measure to help provide sincere and sensitive communication with its users. Academic regulations and evaluation practices used in educational institutions need to be updated, should ChatGPT be used as a tool in education. To address the transformative effects of ChatGPT on the learning environment, educating teachers and students alike about its capabilities and limitations will be crucial. © 2023 The Authors

Evolution of Web API Cooperation Network via Exploring Community Structure and Popularity

With the growing popularity of the Internet, Web applications have become increasingly essential in our daily lives. Web application programming interfaces (Web APIs) play a crucial role in facilitating interaction between applications. However, most Web service platforms are suffering from the imbalance of Web services now, many services of good quality but low popularity are difficult to be invoked even once and do not create direct connections with the users. Some graph-based Web service recommendation methods also often present a long-tailed distribution of recommended Web services due to limited Mashup-API invocation relationships. To relieve this problem and promote service recommendation, in this article, we propose a community structure and popularity-based approach by constructing an evolving cooperation network for Web APIs. We leverage the Louvain algorithm in community detection to assign community structure to each Web API and consider both the popularity and community structure in constructing the network. By optimizing the Barabαsi-Albert (BA) evolving network model, we demonstrate that our approach outperforms the BA, Bianconi-Barabαsi (BB), and popularity-similarity optimization (PSO) models in Web service clustering. Based on our proposed evolutionary network model for the evolutionary extension of API cooperation network and used for downstream Web service recommendation tasks, the experimental results also show that our recommended approach outperforms some other baseline models for Web service recommendation. © 2020 IEEE.

By leveraging smart devices [e.g., industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)] and real-time data analytics, organizations, such as production plants can benefit from increased productivity, reduced costs, enhanced self-monitoring, and autonomous decision-making. In such a setting, machine learning plays an important role in data analytics, but the use of conventional centralized machine learning solutions may raise uncomfortable concerns about data privacy. Hence, one can explore the use of federated learning. In this article, we propose privacy-preserving deep neural network training (PpNNT), which is designed to support federated learning in the multiparty setting. To minimize the overall costs, we further design a hybrid architecture to fully maximize resource utilization. Our proposed design allows the PpNNT system to provide high security, efficiency, and scalability for IIoT data analytics, as evidenced by our theoretical security proof and experimental results on the CIFAR10 dataset. © 2020 IEEE.
