E-Learning aims at providing an alternative to classroom learning where learners learn through internet or CD/DVD without physical presence in the classrooms. In this paper, the state-of-the-art e-Learning tools have been reviewed. It has been observed that the contemporary tools can be seen as course management system rather an alternative to classroom learning. When learners need further clarifications on the topic, learners need to visit external sources such as Search Engines, Citation Indexes, and Digital Libraries etc. However, with the advent of Web 2.0, the social community is engaged to share large number of important and recent resources with the scientific community. One of such system is known as: CiteULike which has more than 6 millions research resources and thousands of resources are shared on daily basis. Users of CiteULike annotate resources with useful keywords termed as Tags to give a structure to these resources. This paper further provides a framework for discovering most relevant resources from CiteULike for learners. The keywords of learning resource are matched with tags of CiteULike using Direct Match, Partial Match, and Synonym Match. The resources are further ranked based on number of weights. The ranked list of resources are made available in the local context of the learners in the eLearning system. The proposed framework has been demonstrated with the example of a case study. It has been found that the ranked list of resources are very important for learners. The learners not only get a ranked list of relevant resources, instead the learners discover evolving concepts and resources related to the topic of study. The reoccurs give breadth and depth knowledge to learners for further explorations.

Bandwidth aggregation of heterogeneous wireless links faces numerous challenges in maximizing available connectivity services for mobile applications. One serious issue is the out-of-sequence arrival of packets at receiver that is amplified by distribution of packets of a flow over multiple paths. These packets experience asymmetric path characteristics that results in diverse congestion states for traffic flow. This paper presents an adaptive mechanism for estimation of path suitability for a specific type of flow on the basis of end-to-end path statistics of delay, packet drop and available bandwidth. The proposed mechanism is also supported by a stochastic model that estimates delay with lesser computational complexity. The results of proposed approach have been validated through simulation as well. The results have shown robust performance of proposed mechanism in achieving acceptable quality-of-service levels during mobility with minimized out-of-sequence reception and reduced buffer occupancy.

Earthquakes are considered one of the major disastrous situations for any nation. The horrible earthquake may claim hundreds of lives, thousands of injuries and demolishing thousands of houses. When an earthquake hits a nation then number of management bodies (such as: government organizations, non-government organizations (NGOs)) are actively involved in reinstating the damages. Generally, these organizations deal with stats of build and still-to-be build infrastructure (roads, buildings, and houses etc). Currently, this information is presented to the organizations as a raw text in huge amount. Therefore, it becomes difficult to highlight key areas where an immediate start of rehabilitation process is inevitable. In the past, some systems have been developed to present such information in structured form by using some visualization techniques. However, these tools are inadequate because of the following reasons: 1) Most of these tools are about geotechnical conditions of effected area and can provide help to describe seismic hazards 2) Some systems show trends of earthquakes in specific region. 3). None of the systems describe the rehabilitation process in an easily conceivable way. Therefore, this becomes an interesting and challenging research problem to build such a system that can overcome the above mentioned limitations of current techniques and systems. In this research, we present such a system called ERRAGMAP. This geospatial tool discovers and presents deep insight into the data related to rehabilitation of the destroyed houses in the earthquake affected areas. Our contributions in this research are as follows: 1) critical analysis of existing tools of visualization for earthquake rehabilitation systems 2) propose and develop a framework for converting raw data into actionable knowledge, 3) propose, develop and evaluate an innovative visualization technique.

Visual analysis of knowledge expertise is becoming an emerging field due to its vital and essential importance of discovering both expertise and experts in practical applications. There are numerous visualization techniques which can identify the knowledge domains of research groups and communities. In this paper, we visualize and identify the expertise of an individual author based on the analysis of the author's profile and its available information in DBLP databases. We have presented an approach to analyze both knowledge domains of individual authors as well as topic wise experts. In order to validate and comparison, we use the Gephi visualization tool to observe what is similar (comparison) or difference (contrast) between our proposed methodology and Gephi.

The digital information is expanding with exponential curve. It becomes difficult to find the relevant information. For example, in scientific domain, to identify the most relevant paper for the focused paper, one needs to explore the focused paper's citations using some citation index such as Google Scholar etc. However, the focused paper may receive 100's and sometimes 1000's of citations. With this huge number of citations, it becomes difficult for users to find the highly relevant papers with respect to the focused paper. While exploring the relevant papers from citations of the focused paper, the user may end up with finding only few. This is because of the fact that authors often cite a paper for providing a background study of the domain and hence cited and cited-by paper have no strong relationship. Currently users need to skim all citations to filter such papers. There is a dire need to develop a system that could automate the process of finding the most relevant papers from the citations. In the current work, we have proposed such a system which ranks the most relevant cited phapers for a cited-by paper. The system conceptualizes citations as a graph model. Furthermore, the system employs number of weights to find the most relevant papers. Such weights include topic weight, keyword weight, and author weight. The edge between two nodes in the graph gets a maximum Weight if both are the most relevant papers. Subsequently, a visualization technique has been designed to visualize the graph. We have used the dataset of Journal of Universal Computer Science having 1400 papers and 6090 citations. The manual inspection has revealed that the top ranked papers were actually the most relevant papers. © 2011 IEEE.

The increased availability of communication resource through simultaneous use of multiple network interfaces of mobile and fixed devices has enabled higher bandwidth for streaming applications. The out-of-sequence arrival on such multipath transport configurations remains the major challenge to be overcome before the available potential is maximized. In this paper, we propose Modified Fast Retransmit (MFR) Scheme for the multi-homed stream control transmission protocol (SCTP) that minimizes the impact of possible out-of-sequence (OOS) arrival at the destination. The proposed scheme isolates local and global OOS arrivals and adapts fast retransmission strategy for global OOS arrival, in accordance to the end-to-end communication path characteristics. The essence of higher availability of bandwidth is also signified through the modified congestion control mechanism. The proposed scheme produces large boost in throughput of the streams transported through multiple paths, as compared to other schemes;such as Concurrent Multipath Transmission. © 2011 IEEE.

Data in semantic web is modelled in terms of directed labelled graph. Vertices of that graph represent entities and edges represent relationships between those entities. semantic web allows the discovery of relations between entities using the p-operators. In this paper an algorithm to answer p-operators, that is, to find all paths between any two nodes from a graph is proposed. The algorithm is based on p-index, an indexing scheme presented in the PhD thesis of Barton. Our algorithm reduces the computational and space complexity of indexing by not creating a special type of adjacency matrix called Path Type Matrix at each level of indexing which Barton's algorithm did. We only need Path Type Matrices at first and last level of indexing. Thus if an indexing has 100 levels, Barton requires Path Type Matrices at each level and we only require Path Type Matrices at level 1 and level 100. © 2011 IEEE.

Citation networks are very dense and large networks. The visualization of such dense networks is a tough task. Furthermore, most of the available tools provide visualization of such networks in the form of static images. However, the static images are not of any use for the users as user cannot interact with the system and cannot find the required information. In this paper, we have implemented a system that generates a dynamic network of citations. We have used CiteSeer dataset for citation network. We have provided the functionalities where a user can magnify the shown graph and can view all the citations of the required selected paper in a radial tree form. We have also provided a lens facility that provides a hyperbolic view and user can zoom in and out the graph in the area of lens. We created this citation network in Pajek tool and then extended the tool by incorporating JUNG libraries of java.
