In this paper, we propose the long range cooperative communication via high altitude platforms (HAPs). The HAPs are temporary platforms placed in the stratosphere, at the typical heights of 17-25 km above the earth surface, which is considered to be a low air density region. The error performance is analyzed for the proposed source-HAPs-destination cooperative system, where the source and the destination are separated by a very long distance on earth surface. Considering the decode and forward (DF) strategy at the HAPs, we find an accurate closed form expression of average BER for binary phase shift keying (BPSK) constellation.

Multicasting is intended for group communication, which supports the dissemination of information from a sender to all the receivers in a group. Mobile wireless Ad Hoc networks are infrastructure less and often used to operate under unattended mode, posing problems like scarcity of bandwidth, short lifetime of the nodes due to power constraints, and dynamic topology caused by the mobility of nodes. Multiple multicasting protocols have been proposed for Ad Hoc networks based on different approaches and some performance simulations are made on numbers of routing protocols. In this paper, we are comparing three different protocols ODMRP (On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol), MAODV (Multicast Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector), and Anonymous Gossip (AG) using packet delivery fraction as performance parameter while varying various network parameters such as number of nodes, transmission range and mobility of nodes using the tool GloMoSim. We have also taken average end to end delay as performance metric for analyzing the best protocol for delay sensitive applications. To the best of our knowledge, comparison of these protocols have not yet being done on the parameter chosen by us in the literature. We look at the relative strengths, weaknesses, and applicability of each multicast protocol to diverse situations. © 2014 IEEE.

In this paper a high performance induction motor drive without speed sensor is investigated. The rotor flux oriented indirect vector control scheme is used for obtaining high performance. In order to eliminate the speed sensor, a MRAS based speed estimator is designed for gathering the rotor speed information. Also a simple but effective loss minimization algorithm is integrated to calculate the optimal flux for efficiency improvement of the drive. Complete simulation model is developed in Simulink/MATLAB software. The performance of the developed system is analyzed with different operating conditions.

The exponentiated Weibull (EW) distribution has been recently proposed for the modelling of free-space optical (FSO) links in the presence of finite sized receiver aperture. In this paper, the performance of FSO communication systems over EW is studied. Specifically, the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), over EW turbulence fading, are studied. The derived statistics of the SNR is utilized to analyse the performance of an FSO communication system over a generalized communication environment with turbulence induced fading, misalignment errors and path loss. New expression for the outage probability is obtained, and exact expressions for the average bit error rate (BER) are derived for various binary modulation schemes. Finally, the obtained analytical results are verified via Monte Carlo simulations.

Transformers are expensive and important equipment in the whole power system. Fault in transformers not only affect electric utilities but also customers by interrupting the power supply. The maintenance and servicing of transformers is usually time consuming and costly. If we can somehow predict the incipient faults, its maintenance and servicing can be planned before faults actually happens. Dissolve gas analysis is an important method which can detect the incipient fault conditions. In earlier times faults were monitored by conventional methods, which were time taking and sometimes even need transformer to be out of service, which was a big drawback. Artificial Intelligence is a technique that can help in detecting the incipient fault conditions in lesser time with high accuracy as compared to the conventional techniques available. Key Gas, Dual Triangle, Rogers Ratio, IEC Ratio and, Doernenburg Method, percentage of gases like %C 2 H 2 , %C 2 H 4 , %CH 4 , and combination of gases are applied as an input to ANN models (PNN and MLP). MLP and PNN techniques are trained and compared to get the input parameter that gives most accurate fault predictions.

A unique study of structural and chemical analysis of crys-talline phases in developed agglomerated fluxes was carried out. Thirty-two fluxes were developed by using a mixture of oxides, halides, carbonates, silicates, and ferroalloys for submerged arc welding. The present paper focuses on only ten (out of thirty-two) fluxes which were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) to know the different types of oxides formed and changed in oxidation number of metallic centers after sintering process at around 850 °C. To know the effect of temperature over phase transformation and melting of different compounds, differential thermal analysis (DTA) was carried out from 1000 to 1400 °C. This study aims to know the quantity of ions present (percentage) and melting behavior of developed agglomerated fluxes for submerged arc welding process.

A robotic manipulator is a highly nonlinear, highly coupled, Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) and dynamic system. Being complex in nature conventional Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller tuning methods, in general, are not applicable to these systems. For the past two decades, with the advent of efficient and high speed computing power, optimization techniques are being applied for complex non-linear processes for tuning of controllers. These techniques yield optimized performance for customised performance indexes. This paper presents a detailed comparative study of performances of three optimization techniques for the tuning of PID controllers for a two-link planar rigid robotic manipulator. In this work tuning of PID controllers has been carried out using three techniques namely Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Simulated Annealing (SA) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). Two performance indices namely Integral of Absolute Error (IAE) and Integral of Absolute Change in Control Output (IACCO) with equal weightage for both the links are considered for optimization. The robustness testing of optimized controllers is done for the trajectory tracking, model uncertainties and disturbance rejection. The simulation results clearly indicate that the PSO outperforms both SA and GA. © Springer India 2014.

The ever increasing global Internet traffic is resulting in a serious upgrade of the current optical networks' capacity. The legacy infrastructure can be enhanced not only by increasing the capacity, but also by adopting advance modulation formats, having increased spectral efficiency at higher data rate. In a mixed-line-rate (MLR) optical network, different line rates, on different wavelengths, can coexist on the same fiber. Further, studies have shown that migration to data rates higher than 10Gbps requires implementation of phase modulation schemes. However, the co-existing On-Off Keying (OOK) channels cause critical physical layer impairments (PLIs) to the phase modulated channels, mainly due to cross-phase modulation (XPM), which in turn limits the network's performance. In order to mitigate this effect, a more sophisticated PLI-Routing and Wavelength Assignment (PLI-RWA) scheme needs to be adopted. In this work, we investigate the critical impairment for each data rate and the way it affects the quality of transmission (QoT). We propose a novel PLI-RWA algorithm for MLR optical networks. The proposed algorithm is compared through simulations with the existing shortest path and minimum hop routing schemes.

Static Graphs consist of a fixed sequence of nodes and edges which does not change over time, hence lack in providing the information regarding evolution of the network. In contrast, Dynamic Graphs to a greater extent relate to real-life events and so provide complete information about the network evolution. That is why many researchers [1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10] have developed interest in mining of Dynamic Graphs. We feel, that the topic can be further sub-divided structurally into four major categories, which are mining of Labeled, Edge Unlabeled, Directed and Undirected Dynamic Graphs. However, the main focus of research till now is on the mining of Edge Unlabeled Dynamic Graphs. But the limitation is that it does not provide the complete insights of graphs where edge strengths i.e. weights are also changing with time. For example in case of Coauthor network mining in Unlabeled Dynamic Graphs gives information only about the occurrence of relation whereas that in Labeled Dynamic Graphs provides more detailed information like the number of paper published jointly at different instants of time. To address this problem, the present paper proposes a novel method to find out Weighted Regular Patterns in Edge Labeled Dynamic Graphs. The proposed method consists of creating a summary graph to find weight occurrence sequence of edges enabling to determine weighted regular patterns. The method is applied to real world dataset, PACS networks, to ensure its practical feasibility and to understand how Weighted Dynamic Graphs behave regularly over time.

Existing Dynamic Graph mining algorithms focus typically on finding patterns in undirected, unweighted and weighted dynamic networks ignoring the fact that some of them could be directed also. In this paper, we focus on finding regular evolution patterns in edges, outdegree and indegree of all the nodes, featuring consecutively at fixed time intervals during the growth of an unweighted and directed dynamic graph. Such regular patterns will help in finding the characteristics (such as popularity, inactiveness) of the nodes. A methodology of occurrence rule is proposed in order to determine regular evolution patterns, which are considered to be regular if they follow the same occurrence rule. The methodology is also used to find the patterns in the outdegree and indegree of all the nodes. These patterns are used to describe exhaustively the neighbourhood properties of dynamic graphs as in the social networks. To ensure its practical feasibility, the method has been applied to real world dataset on Facebook-like Forum network, and the results have shown that 37.6% of the edges are directed regular edges, and 59% of the total users, not having their indegree patterns are unpopular users.
