The object of this paper is to design, simulate and compare the performance of different dc-dc converters in solar energy systems. This is designed for using single phase asynchronous motors in home appliances such as washing machines, refrigerator etc. and is simulated in MATLAB 8.1 using simulink, SimPower system. Perturb and Observe algorithm is used as MPPT algorithm to achieve the maximum power transfer from solar array. The PV input voltage is fed to the dc-dc converter and given to the single phase inverter.

In this paper, we analyze the performance of the cooperative optical wireless communication (OWC) systems under the effect of atmospheric turbulence. We consider a dual-hop OWC system having a relay-assisted link between source and destination using a decode and forward (DF) relaying protocol. The atmospheric turbulence channels are modeled by independent but not necessarily identically distributed (i.n.i.d) gamma-gamma fading statistics. The exact closed form expressions of outage probability and average bit-error rate (BER) are derived using the power series representations of the modified bessel function of second kind and illustrated through numerical plots.

This paper investigates a free space optical (FSO) communication system with multiple user pairs sharing a single relay over atmospheric turbulence induced fading channels effected by path loss. Multiuser diversity is achieved by applying various scheduling schemes at the relay. The performance of various scheduling schemes based on selection combining (SC) diversity and switched diversity are evaluated for the considered dual-hop, bi-directional, half-duplex relay system with network coding. Closed form expressions for the outage performance for different scheduling schemes have been derived.

This paper investigates a two-way relay (TWR) assisted free space optical (FSO) communication system with multiple user pairs sharing a single relay via scheduling. A two-way, half-duplex, network-coded relay is considered which serves multiple user pairs over an optical channel characterized by path loss, atmospheric turbulence, and pointing errors (building sway). In addition, the relay employs a scheduler based on absolute signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and normalized SNR based scheduling schemes. Novel closed form expressions for outage probability for both the scheduling schemes are derived and numerically analyzed for the considered system and channel models.

In this paper, we analyze a subcarrier intensity modulation (SIM) based relayed free space optical (FSO) system assuming independent but not necessarily identically distributed (i.n.i.d) Gamma-Gamma turbulence channels. System employs a channel-state-information-assisted (CSI-assisted) amplify and forward (AF) relay. We derive the moment generating function (MGF) of the end-to-end signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the system and using the novel MGF, accurate closed-form expressions for capacity under different adaptive transmission schemes such as optimal rate adaptation (ORA) and channel inversion with fixed rate (CIFR) are derived. Further, we derive closed form expression for average symbol error rate (SER) of M-ary phase shift keying (MPSK) modulation schemes in terms of Meijer's G-function.

This paper analyzes the performance of the full duplex relaying (FDR) based cooperative communication system in a multi-cell environment. In multi-cell environment the FDR is prone to co-channel interferers due to higher reuse of the frequency. Owing to the possibility of imperfect mitigation at the relay we, in this paper, model the self-interference (or echo-interference) channel, which exists between the transmitting and the receiving antennas of the relay, as a fading channel with Nakagami-m fading distribution. For the decode and forward (DF) relay, we analyze the error performance and derive an exact closed form expression of the average bit error rate (BER). Further, an exact closed form expression for outage probability of the considered system is also obtained.

In this paper, performance analysis of an induction motor drive employing a loss minimization algorithm (LMA) is presented. As the induction motors are not designed to impart high efficiency under partial loading conditions, proposed LMA is used to improve the efficiency under such load conditions. For the efficiency improvement LMA uses the rotor flux as a control variable. Mathematical model of induction motor in field-oriented frame, including proposed loss model is derived. The complete drive system is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink software for different operating conditions. Simulation results obtained shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in partial loading conditions.

Use of powder metallurgy processed (PM) electrode in electrical discharge machining (EDM) has emerged as an alternate tooling option with a view to impart improved surface properties to the work surface. Preliminary investigation with CuW PM electrode using Taguchi method was done on Inconel 718 to obtain best parameter settings for higher the better surface roughness. In the present work surface micro hardness study and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was performed on the machined surface at the best parameter setting and comparison was done with the surface machined using conventional copper electrode. It was observed that the micro hardness of the machined surface was improved from 380.9 HV of the base metal to 496.7 HV of the surface machined with powder metallurgy processed electrode. XRD analysis revealed the formation of Fe2W3C6 phase on the machined surface causing remarkable improvement in the surface micro hardness.

The study presented in this paper is in continuation with the paper published by the authors on parallel fuzzy proportional plus fuzzy integral plus fuzzy derivative (FP + FI + FD) controller. It addresses the stability analysis of parallel FP + FI + FD controller. The famous"small gain theorem" is used to study the bounded-input and bounded-output (BIBO) stability of the fuzzy controller. Sufficient BIBO-stability conditions are developed for parallel FP + FI + FD controller. FP + FI + FD controller is derived from the conventional parallel proportional plus integral plus derivative (PID) controller. The parallel FP + FI + FD controller is actually a nonlinear controller with variable gains. It shows much better set-point tracking, disturbance rejection and noise suppression for nonlinear processes as compared to conventional PID controller.
