We investigate the performance of a two-way relay (TWR) assisted Free Space Optical (FSO) system over weak atmospheric turbulence channels. A dual-hop bi-directional relaying system which consists of three nodes is considered. Closed form expression for its outage performance is derived assuming a fixed-gain relay and considering decode-and-forward (DF) protocol. Additionally, we study its error performance by calculating the moment generating function (MGF).

In this paper we analyze the outage behavior of a coded cooperative system for independent, flat, Nakagami-m fading channels and derive a closed form expression for outage probability. We further find the optimum number of relays with respect to outage probability for different channel conditions and threshold power. We also obtain graphically the minimum cooperation ratio required, and hence minimum number of bits to be transmitted in first phase transmission, with respect to channel statistics and threshold power.

There has been considerable interest in recent technical literature on the use of only unity gain cells (i.e. unity gain voltage followers (VF) and unity gain current followers (CF)) as alternatives to other more complex building blocks in the design of analog circuits. This has been possible due to the advances made in IC technology. It is possible to design VFs and CFs providing wider bandwidth, lower power consumption and simpler architectures as compared to other more complex building blocks. Moreover, using CFs and VFs it becomes possible to design all the four controlled sources in an open loop arrangement without encountering the gain-bandwidth-conflicts. These advantages have stimulated considerable interest in the use of VFs and CFs in a variety of linear as well as non-linear applications over the past two decades. Simultaneously, significant work has also been done on improving the design of VFs and CFs themselves for both bipolar and CMOS technologies. This chapter presents a brief account of some prominent works done on the analog circuit design using VFs and CFs together with the design of VFs and CFs themselves. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

The differential difference amplifier (DDA) was introduced more than two decades back and its several applications as well as bipolar/CMOS implementations have been reported so far. This paper presents a new second order multiple-input-single-output type universal filter configuration using only two DDAs along with only five passive components which can realize all the five generic filter functions from the same configuration under various conditions in terms of the four input signals. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that DDA-based circuits can be practically implemented using commercially available video differencing amplifier IC AD830. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Under the current scenario, many applications, across various domains of real world, are utilizing the Wireless LAN (WLAN) technology. With its growing usage, the requirement for QoS in WLAN has also gained significance. The most prevalent WLAN standard IEEE 802.11 does not provide QoS. In order to render service differentiation in the existing IEEE 802.11 scheme, we have presented a priority based differentiation scheme. The proposed scheme is implemented during the contention process of the existing DCF method. The contention window is divided with respect to various priority levels. The priority levels are decided on the basis of the data sensed by the station. The higher priority levels contend with a lower random back-off value and thus, are favored during transmission. Although, IEEE802.11e, the enhanced version of IEEE802.11, does provide QoS, our scheme is easier to implement on the existing legacy DCF systems. The proposed scheme modifies only the contention window and not parameters like Inter Frame Space, unlike IEEE 802.11e. We have presented the analysis of this suggested prioritization strategy on the basis of average delay, average throughput and packet received to packet sent ratio through the simulation result.

MANETs are best suited for emergency situations as they facilitate fully distributed, self maintainable dynamic topology networks that operate without the use of external infrastructure. But the proliferation of such MANET based applications is limited as its features though impart high applicability but also manifest unreliability. Another cause of unreliability is the mutual intrinsic trust during communication. One such attack exploiting this trustworthiness is called the Black Hole attack wherein the Black Hole in the network promises routing of the data packet to the destination while in actuality it drops them hence decreasing reliability. In this paper we therefore analyse MANETs under single and collaborative Black Hole attack and prevent it by diverting traffic from the Black Hole. The MANETs so discussed employ the AODV routing protocol and the method so proposed is based on sending confirmation packets that are verified by the destination to check for Black Hole presence in the GAODV routing protocol so proposed. The GAODV algorithm was then simulated in both static as well as mobile node environment and it was observed that its data delivery ratio is significantly better than the conventional AODV.

Predicting fire nature is artistry as much as it's a science. Forecasting the burnt area and range of field plays a vital role in resource abatement and renewal efforts. Literature studies have shown that machine learning techniques achieved better performance in forecasting and trend perusal. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relevance of the state-of-the-art machine learning techniques epsilon Support Vector Regression and Nu-SVR to predict forest fire occurrence and burned area utilizing the meteorological data. The goals of this research are to (1) Identifying the best parameter settings using a grid-search and pattern search technique;(2) comparing the prediction accuracy among the models using different data sorting methods, random sampling and cross-validation. In conclusion, the experiments show that E-SVR performs better using various fitness-functions and variance analysis. The study is carried out to build predictive models for guesstimating the risk of the outbreaks in Montesinho Natural Park.

Simulation of grounded inductance (GI) and Floating inductance (FI) has been an important area of analog circuit research since simulated inductors find applications in a number of analog circuit *** simulation circuits using current conveyors(CCs) and current feedback operational amplifiers (CFOAs)have attracted significant attention in recent literature due to the commercial availability of a CFOA with externally accessible z-pin such as AD 844 which can be used to realize both CC-based as well as CFOA-based inductance simulators practically. In this paper a new configuration for the simulation of a floating inductance (FI) employing only two CFOAs is presented. The proposed circuit employs a canonical number of passive components and (namely, only two resistors and a capacitor), and realizes a single resistance-tunable inductance value, does not require any component-matching or cancellation constraints in the realization of the intended type of inductance. To the best knowledge of the authors, no such CFOA-based FI circuit has been reported in the literature earlier. The proposed circuit has been tested by its hardware implementation and SPICE simulations based on AD844-type CFOAs which confirm its practical workability.

The paper addresses the adaptive behaviour of parallel fuzzy proportional plus fuzzy integral plus fuzzy derivative (FP+FI+FD) controller. The parallel FP+FI+FD controller is actually a non-linear adaptive controller whose gain changes continuously with output of the process under control. Two non-stationary processes, whose characteristics change with time, are considered for simulation study. Simulation is performed using software LabVIEW TM . The set-point tracking response of parallel FP+FI+FD is compared with conventional parallel proportional plus integral plus derivative (PID) controller, tuned with the Ziegler-Nichols (Z-N) tuning technique. Simulation results show that conventional PID controller fails to track the set-point and becomes unstable as the process changes its characteristic with time. But the parallel FP+FI+FD controller shows considerably much better set-point tracking response and does not deviate from steady state. Also, a huge spike is observed in the output of PID controller as the reference set-point and process parameters are changed, while the FP+FI+FD controller gives spike free control signal.

In Opportunistic Networks (OppNets), the existence of an end-to-end connected path between the sender and the receiver is not possible. Thus routing in this type of networks is different from the traditional Mobile Adhoc Networks (MANETs). MANETs assume the existence of a fixed route between the sender and the receiver before the start of the communication and till its completion. Routes are constructed dynamically as the source node or an intermediate node can choose any node as next hop from a group of neighbors assuming that it will take the message closer to the destination node or deliver to the destination itself. In this paper, we proposed a novel History Based Prediction Routing (HBPR) protocol for infrastructure-less OppNets which utilizes the behavioral information of the nodes to find the best next node for routing. The proposed protocol was compared with the Epidemic routing protocol. Through simulations it was found that the HBPR performs better in terms of number of messages delivered and the overhead ratio than the Epidemic protocol.
