This paper presents a performance based comparison of some of the major compressed domain color image enhancement techniques with special emphasis on the Color Enhancement By Scaling the DCT Coefficients technique [CES-DCT] and Color Enhancement By Scaling the Wavelet Transform Coefficients technique [CES-DWT]. The CES technique is found to be simple but more effective than some of the existing enhancement techniques suggested earlier. The novelty of the CES technique is that it treats the chromatic components, while previous techniques treated only the luminance component. The CES-DWT utilizes the advantages of the wavelet transform and is found to be capable of improving both global and local contrast as well as preserving color consistency. The results of all previous compressed domain enhancement techniques along with that of the CES are compared with respect to those obtained by applying a spatial domain color enhancement technique that provides very good enhancement. The CES-DWT technique is found to provide better enhancement compared to other compressed domain based approaches (even better than CES-DCT) and is computationally more efficient than the spatial domain based method.

Three techniques for constructing reduced order models are presented and compared. The techniques are based on: 1) Model Reduction Using the Routh Stability Criterion by V. Krishnamurthy and V. Seshadri.;2) Higher Order Reduction by Coefficient Comparison by T. Manigandan and N. Devarajan 3) Clustering method for reducing order of linear system using Pade approximation by C.B. Vishwakarma and R. Prasad. In this paper, we have compared the reduced transfer functions obtained from all the three methods and thereafter computed the Relative Integral Square Error (RISE) for different numerical examples by using the above mentioned methods.

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) offer a dynamic environment where data exchange and routing between nodes occur without the help of any centralized server or human intervention, providing that nodes cooperate with each other. In such environment, the presence of malevolent nodes may result in wormhole attacks. In this paper, a secured AODV-based routing scheme (referred to as Timed and Secured Monitoring Implementation - (TSMI)) is proposed for mitigating such attacks. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, using the packet delivery ratio, the number of broken links detected, and the number of packets received by destination, as performance indicators.

Spammers are constantly evolving new spam technologies, the latest of which is image spam. Till now research in spam image identification has been addressed by considering properties like colour, size, compressibility, entropy, content etc. However, we feel the methods of identification so evolved have certain limitations due to embedded obfuscation like complex backgrounds, compression artifacts and wide variety of fonts and *** overcome these limitations, we have proposed a 4-stage methodology which uses the information of low level features and content of the spam images. The method works on images with and without noise separately. Also colour properties of the images are altered so that OCR (Optical Character Recognition) can easily read the text embedded in the image. The proposed method is tested on a dataset of 1984 spam images and is found to be effective in identifying all types of spam images having (1) only text, (2) only images or (3) both text and images. The encouraging experimental results show that the technique achieves an accuracy of 92%. © institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2012.

Software complexity is one of the important quality attribute and predicting complexity is a difficult task for software engineers. Current measures can be used to compute complexity but these methods are not sufficient. New methods or paradigms are being searched for predicting complexity because complexity prediction can help us in estimating many other quality attributes like testability and maintainability. The main goal of this paper is to explore the role of new paradigms like fuzzy logic in complexity prediction. In this paper we have proposed a fuzzy logic based approach to predict software complexity. © 2012 IEEE.

The staircase scheme is one of the important broadcasting schemes. It however does not provide the video data to all users on time. This problem has been overcome in the conservative staircase scheme at the cost of bandwidth. The number of segments in the conservative staircase scheme is less and hence the segment size is large, which signifies the user's waiting time. Thus, the conservative staircase scheme has more user's waiting time than the staircase scheme. In this paper, we propose a hybrid scheme of the staircase and conservative staircase schemes that provides the video data to users on time and has better performance than the conservative staircase scheme for the user's waiting time. © 2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we investigate a new approach for personal authentication using Finger-Knuckle-Print through a novel texture descriptor, Local Directional Pattern (LDP). The image is encoded with Local Directional Pattern, which enhances the information as each pixel is represented as a binary LDP code. The Finger-Knuckle-Print is divided into smaller areas and LDP histograms are extracted from each block, which are used to graphically represent the information. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of LDP achieving 97.67% classification accuracy for finger knuckle print based authentication.

One of the major issues concerning all the web application is security of data and proving authority of database. In this paper we present a robust technique of embedding watermark in a relational database with non numeric attributes. In the proposed technique, an attribute is selected using a pseudorandom generator and the watermark is embedded in it. The vowel to be embedded is selected by calling a Key-Extraction ( ) on primary attribute of the same tuple. Our technique develops a secret key of embedded vowels which is provided to the user. The technique is robust against different malicious attacks and is blind and imperceptible, as proved by our analysis. © 2012 IEEE.

Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a collection of mobile nodes that communicate with each other without any fixed infrastructure or a central network authority. From a security design perspective, MANETs have no clear line of defense;i.e. no built-in security. Thus, the wireless channel is accessible to both legitimate network users and malicious attackers. A blackhole attack is a severe attack that can be easily employed against data routing in MANETs. A blackhole is a malicious node that can falsely reply for any route requests without having an active route to a specified destination and drops all the receiving data packets. In this paper, a novel scheme for Detecting Blackhole Attacks in MANETs (so-called DBA-DSR) is introduced. The BDA-DSR protocol detects and avoids the blackhole problem before the actual routing mechanism is started by using fake RREQ packets to catch the malicious nodes. Simulation results are provided, showing that the proposed DBA-DSR scheme outperforms DSR in terms of packet delivery ratio and network throughput, chosen as performance metrics, when blackhole nodes are present in the network. © 2012 IEEE.
