In this paper, design of variable fractional delay filter is investigated. DFT Interpolation method is utilized, with suitable index mapping to design a VFD FIR filter. Design examples are demonstrated to evaluate the effectiveness of the designed filter with the help of magnitude, group delay & relative error. Results of designed VFD FIR filter are within acceptable limits over a wide range of frequency. Finally, the realization of VFD FIR filter is proposed.

In this paper, a wavelet based method is proposed to identify the constant coefficients of a second order linear system and is compared with the least squares method. The proposed method shows improved accuracy of parameter estimation as compared to the least squares method. Additionally, it has the advantage of smaller data requirement and storage requirement as compared to the least squares method.

Authentication by biometric verification is becoming increasingly common in corporate, public security and other such systems. There is scads of work done in the area of offline palmprints like palmprint segmentation, crease extraction, special areas, feature matching etc. But to the best of our knowledge no work has been done yet to extract and identify the right hand of a person, given his/her left hand or vice versa from a given database. This kind of identification assumes special significance in cases like bomb blasts, air crash etc., where body parts of various persons get mutilated and mixed up. A framework has been designed where palmprint feature vectors are extracted using 2-D wavelet transform and then a OPMAOP Clustering algorithm (proposed in this paper) is applied to cluster the palmprints to get the opposite hand. Using this approach one can easily achieve the said target with a very high accuracy rate. The FAR of the result has been discussed graphically in subsequent sections.

A complex diffusion process based on Schro¿dinger wave equation is proposed and implemented as a nonlinear filter to perform homomorphic filtering for reducing speckle noise from digital images. Due to the multiplicative and complex nature of speckle noise it becomes practically difficult to restore a degraded image, hence a homomorphic filtering approach is used for the reduction of the same. The homomorphic filtering refers to applying logarithm transformation on input image to convert the multiplicative noise to additive one, applying complex diffusion based inverse filter and finally taking the exponential of filter output to produce the restored image. For digital implementations, the proposed PDE is discretized using finite difference scheme. For software implementation MATLAB 7.0 was used and performance of the proposed scheme was evaluated for different speckle noise variance of the gray test images both qualitatively and quantitatively and the results obtained justify the applicability of proposed scheme.

Due to the non- intuitive nature of Quantum algorithms, it becomes difficult for a classically trained person to efficiently construct new ones. So rather than designing new algorithms manually, lately, Genetic algorithms (GA) are being implemented for this purpose. GA is a technique to automatically solve a problem using principles of Darwinian evolution. This has been implemented to explore the possibility of evolving an n-qubit circuit when the circuit matrix has been provided using a set of single, two and three qubit gates. Using a variable length population and universal stochastic selection procedure, a number of possible solution circuits, with different number of gates can be obtained for the same input matrix during different runs of GA. The given algorithm has also been successfully implemented to obtain two and three qubit Boolean circuits using Quantum gates. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the GA procedure even when the search spaces are large.

A P2P file sharing system implementation on mobile ad-hoc networks is quite tricky to implement as compared to that on a wired network. With the use of swarm intelligence, the P2P file sharing methodology not only has an optimized search process involving a more selective node tracing but also provides a far more time efficient and robust sharing mechanism. A P2P file sharing system implementation poses (a) percentage network area scanned and (b) selective file retrieval from a set of file bearing nodes as the biggest challenge. In this paper, we propose to use another swarm intelligence technique bees algorithm - P2PBA (peer to peer file sharing - bees algorithm) to tackle these issues. Based on the lines of food search behavior of Honey Bees, it optimizes the search process by selectively going to more promising honey sources and scan through a sizeable area. Following a description of the algorithm, the paper gives simulation results for the network against specified parameters that our algorithm proposes to make file sharing technique more efficient.

Image restoration is the process of recovering original image from its degraded version. One possibility of the image degradation is the relative motion between the camera and the object which may blur the captured image during its formation. In this paper, a generalized partial differential equations (PDEs) based model of image is proposed to recover the original image from the blurred image in spatial domain itself. For digital implementations, the resulting PDE is discretized using Lax method which is the modified form of forward time centred space (FTCS) differencing scheme that stabilizes the FTCS scheme. Therefore, the PDE that models the motion blur and image restoration process is a 1D flux-conservative equation or wave equation with added diffusion term which is in the form of the Navier-Stokes equation for viscous fluid. The proposed method is implemented in software using MATLAB for various grey test images for various length of motion blur in pixels and the subjective analysis of the result shows desired results.

A new grounded-capacitor single resistance controlled sinusoidal oscillator (SRCO) with explicit current output using two current conveyors (CCs) and five passive elements is presented. The proposed circuit offers (i) independent control of condition of oscillation and frequency of oscillation, (ii) low active and passive sensitivities, (iii) use of both the grounded capacitors (suitable for IC implementation) and (iv) reasonably good frequency stability. The workability of the proposed configuration has been confirmed by the PSPICE simulations.

Recently a new formulation for realizing a floating inductance (FI) using an OMA, which takes into account the dominant pole of the op-amp employed in the OMA, without requiring any external capacitor was proposed. The proposition, however, suffered from a limited input-dynamic-range of operation owing to limited open-loop signal handling capability of the op-amp used. In this paper we propose an improved FI formulation with increased input signal handling capability. The electronically controllable floating inductance feature of the resulting circuit has been shown by replacing all the building blocks of the FI formulation by their CMOS counterparts. The workability of the proposed FI has been demonstrated by PSPICE simulations.

A novel recursive wideband digital integrator is presented. The integrator is obtained by interpolating two popular digital integration techniques, the SKG (Schneider-Kaneshige-Groutage) rule and the trapezoidal rule. The proposed integrator accurately approximates the ideal integrator reasonably well over the entire Nyquist frequency range with absolute magnitude error les 0.02 and compares favourably with the existing integrators. The proposed integrator is of third order and is highly accurate.
