The proper elicitation and specification of functional and non-functional requirements of an information system in a given environment is the first and the most critical task for the software developers today. The next critical activity is to properly understand these requirements so as to map them on to various design artifacts. In this paper, with the help of the requirements model, we present the behaviour part in the specification of requirements. We explain the behaviour in the specification with the help of dependencies using a mathematical model and a tree/graph so as to enhance the complete understanding of the requirements specification of the information system.

This paper deals with one of the potential applications of distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) to industrial systems for mitigation of voltage dip problem. The dip in voltage is generally encountered during the starting of an induction motor. Isolated distribution systems are comparatively not as stiff as grid systems; so large starting currents and objectionable voltage drop during starting of an induction motor could be critical for the entire system. DSTATCOM is one effective solution for isolated power systems facing such power quality problems. The model of DSTATCOM connected in shunt configuration to such an isolated system (3phase, 42.5 kVA alternator) feeding dynamic motor loads is developed using Simulink and PSB of MATLAB software. Simulated results demonstrate that DSTATCOM can be a considered as a viable solution for solving such voltage dip problems

Although there have been numerous studies on synthesizing sinusoidal oscillators using current feedback op- amps (CFOAs), most of them have dealt with circuits providing a voltage-mode signal (from a low-output-impedance node). However, the problem of realizing Oscillators with explicit current output (from a high-output-impedance node) using commercially available CFOAs has rarely been explored in the technical literature. This paper addresses itself to this task, applies a systematic state-variable method for synthesizing such oscillators and reports three new circuits of this kind whose workability has been confirmed by experimental results using AD844 type CFOAs.

A reconfigurable system for denoising images based on the statistical modeling of wavelet coefficients is presented. The basic algorithm calls for approximating the noisy wavelet coefficients based on observing their local neighbourhood. The architecture for the lifting based wavelet transform followed by the windowing technique for neighbourhood observation has been implemented keeping real time applications in the picture. The architecture has regular data flow and is adaptable to arbitrary image sizes. The wavelet used is the Daubechies' 9/7 biorthogonal wavelet. The PSNR results for different test images have been presented along with hardware and timing results.

In Ad Hoc networks a routing protocol is either proactive or reactive. The former maintains consistent up-to-date routing information from each node to every other node in the network, whereas the latter creates route to the destination only when desired by the source node using "flooding". In flooding packets are broadcast to all destinations with the expectation that they eventually reach their intended destination. This proves to be very costly in terms of the throughput efficiency and power consumption. For reactive protocols, researchers have tried to enhance the throughput efficiency and reduce power consumption using techniques that cut down flooding. In this paper we propose a routing protocol called Power Aware Cluster Efficient Routing (PACER) protocol for multi-hop wireless networks. In PACER, the network is dynamically organized into partitions called clusters with the objective of maintaining a relatively stable effective topology. The protocol uses the Weight Based Adaptive Clustering Algorithm (WBACA), developed by us for cluster formations. The main objective is to significantly reduce the number of overhead messages and the packet transfer delay. We demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed protocol with respect to average end-to-end delay, control overheads, throughput efficiency and the number of nodes involved in routing. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

In this paper, we propose a new approach for the estimation of wavelet with non-separable kernel from a given image. The paper discusses method to the design of biorthogonal 2D-FIR perfect reconstruction filter banks where the filters are estimated from a given image. The design method is proposed with different sampling lattices. The important contribution of this paper lies in the fact that these filters are estimated from given image itself. Several design examples are presented to show the efficacy of the approach and also the ease of design. Since these wavelets are estimated from given image, thus they are called 2-D matched wavelets. © 2004 IEEE.

The polyharmonic broadcasting scheme, a variant of the harmonic scheme, supports better user's latency than those of cautious and quasi-harmonic schemes, besides delivering the video data in time to the users unlike the harmonic scheme. However, its storage requirement at the client's site is very large that may counteract its performance for user's latency. Basically this scheme works by constraining a user for a fixed delay after receiving his/her request. During that delay period, some appropriate portion of the video data is downloaded and stored in the buffer storage at the client's site and it can be read from the buffer, whenever it is needed. In this paper, the enhanced polyharmonic scheme has been proposed, which requires less storage space than the polyharmonic scheme without affecting the user's latency.

Until recently, it was assumed that there was no valuable signal above BETA range (13-30 Hz) in EEG signals. But studies have confirmed that there exist some frequencies above 30 Hz termed as Gamma rhythms. In this paper, a new method has been proposed to detect Gamma rhythms in wavelet domain. Further, the detected Gamma rhythms have been analyzed in terms of their energy contents during different activities in different regions of brain. These results have been shown over brain topography plots. It is observed that Gamma rhythms are present in varying concentration over different regions of brain during different activity of brain. Next, a composite analysis has been done to study the intensity of alpha, beta and gamma waves during different activities of the brain. This information may be useful in identifying sub-normal brain activity in different region. Thus, it can help a lot in diagnosing neural disorders and thus can be of great help in the area of telemedicine.
