Electroencephalography (EEG) offers non-invasive, real-time mental workload assessment, which is crucial in high-stakes domains like aviation and medicine and for advancing brain-computer interface (BCI) technologies. This study introduces a customized ConvNeXt architecture, a powerful convolutional neural network, specifically adapted for EEG analysis. ConvNeXt addresses traditional EEG challenges like high dimensionality, noise, and variability, enhancing the precision of mental workload classification. Using the STEW dataset, the proposed ConvNeXt model is evaluated alongside SVM, EEGNet, and TSception on binary (No vs SIMKAP task) and ternary (SIMKAP multitask) class mental workload tasks. Results demonstrated that ConvNeXt significantly outperformed the other models, achieving accuracies of 95.76% for binary and 95.11% for multi-class classification. This demonstrates ConvNeXt’s resilience and efficiency for EEG data analysis, establishing new standards for mental workload evaluation. These findings represent a considerable advancement in EEG-based mental workload estimation, laying the foundation for future improvements in cognitive state measurements. This has broad implications for safety, efficiency, and user experience across various scenarios. Integrating powerful neural networks such as ConvNeXt is a critical step forward in non-invasive cognitive monitoring. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The enormous volume of heterogeneous data fromvarious smart device-based applications has growingly increased a deeply interlaced cyber-physical *** order to deliver smart cloud services that require low latency with strong computational processing capabilities,the Edge Intelligence System(EIS)idea is now being employed,which takes advantage of Artificial Intelligence(ai)and Edge Computing Technology(ECT).Thus,EIS presents a potential approach to enforcing future Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS),particularly within a context of a Vehicular Network(VNets).However,the current EIS framework meets some issues and is conceivably vulnerable tomultiple adversarial attacks because the central aggregator server handles the entire ***,this paper introduces the concept of distributed edge intelligence,combining the advantages of Federated Learning(FL),Differential Privacy(DP),and blockchain to address the issues raised *** performing decentralized data management and storing transactions in immutable distributed ledger networks,the blockchain-assisted FL method improves user privacy and boosts traffic prediction ***,DP is utilized in defending the user’s private data from various threats and is given the authority to bolster the confidentiality of data-sharing *** model has been deployed in two strategies:First,DP-based FL to strengthen user privacy by masking the intermediate data during model ***,blockchain-based FL to effectively construct secure and decentralized traffic management in vehicular *** simulation results demonstrated that our framework yields several benefits for VNets privacy protection by forming a distributed EIS with privacy budget(ε)of 4.03,1.18,and 0.522,achieving model accuracy of 95.8%,93.78%,and 89.31%,respectively.

Time series forecasting has become an important aspect of data analysis and has many real-world ***,undesirable missing values are often encountered,which may adversely affect many forecasting *** this study,we evaluate and compare the effects of imputationmethods for estimating missing values in a time *** approach does not include a simulation to generate pseudo-missing data,but instead perform imputation on actual missing data and measure the performance of the forecasting model created *** an experiment,therefore,several time series forecasting models are trained using different training datasets prepared using each imputation ***,the performance of the imputation methods is evaluated by comparing the accuracy of the forecasting *** results obtained from a total of four experimental cases show that the k-nearest neighbor technique is the most effective in reconstructing missing data and contributes positively to time series forecasting compared with other imputation methods.

Healthcare data is often fragmented across various institutions due to its highly sensitive and private nature. In this sense, hospitals and clinics maintain electronic health records (EHRs) independently;hence, valuable data is siloed within individual organizations, preventing comprehensive analysis that could benefit from diverse data sources. Federated learning (FL) addresses these challenges by enabling the training of a shared global model using data distributed across multiple institutions without moving the data from its source. By leveraging FL, healthcare institutions can combine their data assets to improve predictive analytics, personalized medicine, and overall healthcare outcomes, ultimately benefiting patients and the healthcare system. However, the current FL model with a central server presents several challenges within healthcare, including the risk of malicious attacks, regulatory compliance, and privacy vulnerabilities. To overcome these issues, this paper introduces the FL framework with blockchain and homomorphic encryption (HE). Our framework aims to minimize the role of the central server, enable collaborative model training across healthcare organizations, and enhance data security and privacy. In this sense, blockchain ensures the integrity and transparency of the process, while homomorphic encryption ensures that the data remains private. This framework can potentially enable institutions to enrich medical knowledge while securely keeping patient data collaboratively and facilitating healthcare analytics in practical settings. © 2024 IEEE.

The idea of a dazzling metropolis has drawn interest from all across the world. New innovations like blockchain, IoT, artificial intelligence, robots, and many other things were added to it. Security is one of the top issues for people living in big cities, and everyone wants to feel completely secure when traveling around every single day. In this research, we will look into how CEOs in affluent cities use and value robots, especially in terms of security. To understand the robot security the board stream, some approaches and intricacies are used. In a manufacturing process, data analysis is conducted to identify defective products in real time to lower their massive production and improve the rate of efficient production. In the production process, it is difficult to find defective products mixed with normal products. Therefore, it is necessary to detect defective products generated in the production process and reduce the risk of their production. Consequently, this study proposes the Mask R-CNN-based occlusion anomaly detection method in consideration of the orientation of manufacturing process data. The proposed method uses Mask R-CNN to find abnormal objects, such as occluded objects, in a manufacturing process line. In the manufacturing process, some products are hidden. Accordingly, preprocessing in consideration of multiple orientations is applied to generate data. The generated data is performed to detect occlusions and anomalies using Mask R-CNN. The mean of IoU was compared to evaluate the detection accuracy of YOLO and Mask R-CNN. YOLO showed excellent performance when there was a constant distance and orientation and no occluded object. However, Mask R-CNN performed excellently when there was any occluded object and the orientation was considered. Therefore, for occlusion anomaly detection in a manufacturing process, Mask R-CNN can reduce the production rate of defective products. Chemical representation learning has gained increasing interest due to the limited availability of supervised data in fields such as drug and materials design. This interest particularly extends to chemical language representation learning, which involves pre-training Transformers on SMILES sequences - textual descriptors of molecules. Despite its success in molecular property prediction, current practices often lead to overfitting and limited scalability due to early convergence. In this paper, we introduce a novel chemical language representation learning framework, called MolTRES, to address these issues. MolTRES incorporates generator-discriminator training, allowing the model to learn from more challenging examples that require structural understanding. In addition, we enrich molecular representations by transferring knowledge from scientific literature by integrating external materials embedding. Experimental results show that our models outperform existing state-of-the-art models on popular molecular property prediction tasks. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.
