With the invention of Internet-enabled devices,cloud and blockchain-based technologies,an online voting system can smoothly carry out election *** pandemic situations,citizens tend to develop panic about mass gatherings,which may influence the decrease in the number of *** urges a reliable,flexible,transparent,secure,and cost-effective voting *** proposed online voting system using cloud-based hybrid blockchain technology eradicates the flaws that persist in the existing voting system,and it is carried out in three phases:the registration phase,vote casting phase and vote counting phase.A timestamp-based authentication protocol with digital signature validates voters and candidates during the registration and vote casting *** smart contracts,third-party interventions are eliminated,and the transactions are secured in the blockchain ***,to provide accurate voting results,the practical Byzantine fault tolerance(PBFT)consensus mechanism is adopted to ensure that the vote has not been modified or ***,the overall performance of the proposed system is significantly better than that of the existing *** performance was analyzed based on authentication delay,vote alteration,response time,and latency.

Buffer and Splitter Insertion for Adiabatic Quantum-Flux-Parametron Circuits

The extremely low-bit energy characteristic of the adiabatic quantum-flux-parametron (AQFP) circuit makes it a promising candidate for highly energy-efficient computing systems. However, in contrast with conventional circuit design, general logic synthesis tools can not make sure that the circuit functionality of generated AQFP circuits is correct. AQFP circuits require buffer and splitter insertion for dataflow synchronization at all clock phases of the circuit and multifan-out driving. Notably, buffers and splitters inserted take up much area and delay in AQFP circuits, also causing a significant increase in energy dissipation. To address this problem, this article analyses in detail why buffer and splitter insertion is necessary for AQFP circuits and proposes a global optimization framework for this purpose. This framework consists of three parts: 1) logic level assignment;2) splitter tree generation;and 3) buffer insertion. An integer linear programming algorithm is proposed for the logic level assignment to estimate the globally optimal number of inserted buffers and splitters. Subsequently, a dynamic programming-based multiway search tree generation algorithm is proposed to construct an optimal splitter tree for each net of the input circuit. Moreover, three optimization strategies are proposed to further enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of our framework. Experimental results on ISCAS'85 and EPFL benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed framework compared with the state-of-the-art, particularly with significant advantages on large circuits. © 2024 IEEE.

A Deep Learning-Based Method for Crowd Counting Using Shunting Inhibition Mechanism

Image-based crowd counting has gained significant attention due to its widespread applications in security and surveillance. Recent advancements in deep learning have led to the development of numerous methods that have achieved remarkable success in accurately counting crowds. However, many of the existing deep learning methods, which have large model sizes, are unsuitable for deployment on edge devices. This article introduces a novel network architecture and processing element designed to create an efficient and compact deep learning model for crowd counting. The processing element, referred to as the shunting inhibitory neuron, generates complex decision boundaries, making it more powerful than the traditional perceptron. It is employed in both the encoder and decoder modules of the proposed model for feature extraction. Furthermore, the decoder includes alternating convolutional and transformer layers, which provide local receptive fields and global self-attention, respectively. This design captures rich contextual information that is used for generating accurate segmentation and density maps. The self-attention mechanism is implemented using convolution modulation instead of matrix multiplication to reduce computational costs. Experiments conducted on three challenging crowd counting datasets demonstrate that the proposed deep learning network, which comprises a small model size, achieves crowd counting performance comparable to that of state-of-the-art techniques. Wrist joint synovial hypertrophy and effusion detection in musculoskeletal ultrasound images using self-attention U-Net

Skeletal muscle ultrasound has emerged as a pivotal imaging modality in rheumatology clinics, offering unparalleled advantages such as radiation-free imaging, safety, and dynamic examination capabilities. However, its reliance on operator expertise often leads to inconsistent interpretations and diagnostic variability. In this study, we present a novel diagnostic system aimed at detecting rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in the wrist joint, with a focus on identifying synovial hypertrophy and effusion using musculoskeletal ultrasound images. Leveraging deep learning techniques, specifically semantic segmentation models, we introduce SEAT-UNet, which combines the U-Net architecture with a self-attention mechanism to enhance the accuracy of lesion classification and localization. SEAT-UNet addresses the challenge of discontinuous dispersion encountered in conventional segmentation models, particularly when delineating lesion areas. Our experimental results demonstrate exceptional performance, achieving a sensitivity and Dice coefficient of 100% and 84%, respectively, in synovial hypertrophy detection, and 86% sensitivity with an 84% Dice coefficient in effusion detection. These findings underscore the potential of SEAT-UNet as a valuable tool for early RA diagnosis, offering improved patient outcomes and facilitating more effective disease management strategies. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The Nemeth Braille Mathematical Code (NBMC) is an essential resource for individuals with visual impairments to comprehend scientific and mathematical symbols. It enables them to understand intricate mathematical equations, symbols, and declarations. Still, there are many challenges in accurately identifying NBMC. This makes it more difficult for those with vision problems to learn information and be self-driven. In this work, a deep learning (DL) based approach is proposed for recognizing NBMC. Comparisons are made between different deep learning models such as convolutional neural network (CNN), InceptionV3, DenseNet201, CNN combined with ResNet50, ResNet50, and VGG16;where CNN combined with ResNet50 model provides the best accuracy among them with a value of 91.20%. Then by using the layers of CNN model combined with ResNet50 works as backend for the web application. The NBMC are then translated into text-to-speech by the web application, to make it easily accessible to visually challenged people. © 2024 IEEE.

Leukemia, a malignant disease characterized by the rapid proliferation of specific types of white blood cells (WBC), has prompted increased interest in leveraging automatic WBC classification system. This study presents the design of a robust WBC classification system, integrating deep learning with microscopic image analysis. The proposed classification model is designed to categorize blood cells into four distinct groups: eosinophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, and neutrophil. The study employs a Kaggle image dataset for comprehensive learning. The dataset comprises 12,500 microscopic images used to categorize the four blood cell groups. To enhance performance and reduce the likelihood of overfitting, transfer learning techniques are employed. Six deep transfer learning models namely VGG16, ResNet50, AlexNet, MobileNet, GoogLeNet, and EfficientNetBO are used for feature extraction and classification. The results of the experiments show that VGG16 and MobileNet demonstrated enhancements compared to other pre-trained models when evaluated on both augmented and original datasets. A diverse set of evaluation criteria was employed to thoroughly assess the effectiveness of medical image classification. Notably, the VGG16 and MobileNet models accurately predicted Lymphocytes and Monocytes with a 100% accuracy rate, and Eosinophil and Neutrophil with rates of 99.35% and 99.81%, respectively. This research work empower medical practitioners, particularly in the field of pathology and hematology by providing advanced tools for accurate blood cell classification. The proposed VGG16 and MobileNet models hold promise for simplifying WBC classification, improving decision-making processes, and ultimately advancing patient care in the medical domain. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Breast-NET: a lightweight DCNN model for breast cancer detection and grading using histological samples

Breast cancer is a prevalent and highly lethal cancer affecting women globally. While non-invasive techniques like ultrasound and mammogram are used for diagnosis, histological examination after biopsy is considered the gold standard. However, manual examination of tissues for abnormality is labor-intensive, expensive, and requires prior domain knowledge. Early detection, awareness, and access to specialized medical infrastructure in resource-constrained and remote areas are significant challenges but crucial for saving lives. In recent years, deep learning-based approaches have shown promising results in breast cancer detection, facilitated by advancements in GPU memory, computation power, and the availability of digital data. Motivated by these observations, we propose the Breast-NET deep convolutional neural network model for breast cancer detection and grading using histological images. Our model’s performance is evaluated on the BreakHis dataset, and we demonstrate its generalization ability on the Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) grading and IDC datasets. Extensive experimental and statistical performance analysis, along with an ablation study, validates the efficiency of our proposed model. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effectiveness of transfer learning with seven pre-trained convolutional neural networks for breast cancer detection and grading. Experimental results show that our framework outperforms state-of-the-art approaches in terms of accuracy, space, and computational complexity for the BreakHis, IDC grading, and IDC datasets. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.
