Contrastive Analysis and Feature Selection for Korean Modal Expression in Chinese-Korean Machine Translation System

To generate a proper Korean predicate, a natural modal expression is the most important factor for a machine translation (MT) system. Tense, aspect, mood, negation, and voice are the major constituents related to modal expression. The linguistic encoding of a modal expression is quite different between Chinese and Korean in terms of linguistic typology and genealogy. In this paper, a new applicable categorization of Korean modality system viz. tense, aspect, mood, negation, and voice, will be proposed through a contrastive analysis of Chinese and Korean from the viewpoint of a practical MT system. In order to precisely determine the modal expression, effective feature selection frameworks for Chinese are presented with a variety of machine learning methods. As a result, our proposed approach achieved an accuracy of 83.10%.

A multiobjective stochastic optimization technique is presented for the design of antenna arrays with given radiation pattern specifications. The technique utilizes the method of genetic algorithms and the proper objective functions are selected for the optimized array design. The technique has been implemented for the case where the arrays consist of vertical dipoles. The parameters of the GA include the elements positions, the array voltage excitation coefficients (amplitude and phase) and the radius and length of the dipoles. The array elements can either be arbitrarily placed, forming a non-uniform configuration or they can arange a circular, uniform, dual band array. In the latter case, the array and dipole characteristics are optimized by the GA for dual band operation, while different current coefficients have to be evaluated for each frequency. The presented results demonstrate the effectiveness, the versatility and applicability of the proposed technique.

Pulse wave velocity (PWV) is the most popular index to assess the arterial stiffness. Recently, several non-invasive examination methods with single channel for PWV are announced. This paper proposes a non-invasive digital volume pulse (DVP) measuring system using a dual channel simultaneous measurement method[1] and tries to meet the demands for home healthcare equipment which is easy to operate. Through synchronal technical in measuring DVP signals from finger and toe can achieve more precise time and substantially reduces the time spend in measurement procedures. On the other hand, the proposed system developed an algorithm to locate the "Foot of the wave" without facilitating of electrocardiogram (ECG). In terms of device and computer data transmission, this paper adopts communication interface Universal Serial Bus(USB), In spite of the advantage of USB interface, RS-232 is gradually out of use and USB can only be found to be used in the notebooks. Such fact causes doctors' inconvenience to carry notebooks and PWV around to measure artery sclerosis. The paper, hence, combines USB communication interface and PWV device, in hopes of maximizing the user-friendly function of such device.

We introduce a new concept of management system based on the scalable communication framework effectively working on mixture of several complex layers including private networks. Overlay network architecture with virtual IP addressing has been applied to identify nodes uniquely. Inter-node communication on different private networks is ensured by defined complex network protocol (CNP). We also develop a communication middleware for the cluster management system called SARK (scalable architecture routing kernel). The total elapsed time for gathering all information and its system overhead are measured. The scalability test performed on the cluster of clusters which contains 100 nodes, and shows our proposed work would be scalable in the cluster of 4,000 nodes. Therefore, our scalable communication framework would be considered as a suitable method for monitoring and controlling a large cluster system on mixture of several complex network layers

Program affordability needs to be built-in at the initial concept formulation stage. For NASA's space exploration vision this is critical for long range sustainability of human presence in space. What is often overlooked in the initial concept formulation of a large scale system endeavor such as NASA's Constellation program is the hidden cost of maintaining requisite operational safety margins and redundancy through adequate supply chain logistics. Ensuring adequate supply chain logistics necessitates the integration of operations and maintenance cycles. What enables this integration is the coordination and reconciliation across multiple equipment types of system health features and logistical information such as: (1) prognostic drivers from Integrated Vehicle Health Monitoring (IVHM) systems producing proactive condition-based "maintain me" demands, (2) maintenance management systems tracking usage and producing scheduled maintenance demands, (3) unscheduled maintenance demands resulting from any trouble reports entered by human observers of conditions missed by the IVHM system, and (4) implicit maintenance demands resulting from mission plans which require assignment of vehicular/robotic assets and consequently require assurance of the assigned assets' fitness for the intended tasks. In this paper we discuss how Coordinated Multi-source Maintenance on Demand (CMMD) technology, which is being is transitioned to the USMC Coherent Analytical Computing Environment (CACE) program and the Joint Strike Fighter Program, can be applied to the NASA domain, and its benefits in terms of mission affordability, operations efficiency and system health effectiveness. Using concepts derived from CMMD, we discuss the kind of IVHM capabilities needed to optimize multiple, parallel, yet inter-linked, operations-maintenance cycles, thereby optimizing program affordability while meeting specific mission supportability requirements across a broad range of mission scenarios.

Recent research in mining user access patterns for predicting Web page requests focuses only on consecutive sequential Web page accesses, i.e., pages which are accessed by following the hyperlinks. In this paper, we propose a new method for mining user access patterns that allows the prediction of multiple non-consecutive Web pages, i.e., any pages within the Web site. Our approach consists of two major steps. First, the shortest path algorithm in graph theory is applied to find the distances between Web pages. In order to capture user access behavior on the Web, the distances are derived from user access sequences, as opposed to static structural hyperlinks. We refer to these distances as minimum reaching distance (MRD) information. The association rule mining (ARM) technique is then applied to form a set of predictive rules which are further refined and pruned by using the MRD information. The proposed approach is applied as a collaborative filtering technique to recommend Web pages within a Web site. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach improves performance over the existing Markov model approach in terms of precision and recall, and also has a better potential of reducing the user access time on the Web

Poly(N-alkyl-2-ethynylpyridinium bromides)s with different alkyl chains were synthesized in high yields by the activated polymerisation of 2-ethynylpyridine with various alkyl bromides in the absence of any additional initiator or catalyst The polymer structures were characterized by various instrumental methods such as NMR, IR, and UV-visible spectroscopies to confirm the conjugated polymer backbone system having N-alkylpyridinium moieties. The polymers were completely soluble in such organic solvents as DMF, DMSO, and DMAc. The photoluminescence spectra of poly(N-dodecyl-2-ethynylpyridinium bromide) and poly(2-ethynyl-N-octadecylpyridinium bromide) showed that the photoluminescence peaks are located at 600 and 596 nm corresponding to the photon energy of 2.07 and 2.08 eV, respectively. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. The image sequence of a static scene includes similar or redundant information over time. Hence, motion-discontinuous instants can efficiently characterize a video shot or event. However, such instants (key frames) are differently identified according to the change of velocity and acceleration of motion, and such scales of change might be different on each sequence of the same event. In this paper, we present a scalable video abstraction in which the key frames are obtained by the maximum curvature of camera motion at each temporal scale. The scalability means dealing with the velocity and acceleration change of motion. In the temporal neighborhood determined by the scale, the scene features (motion, color, and edge) can be used to index and classify the video events. Therefore, those key frames provide temporal interest points (TIPs) for the abstraction and classification of video events.

This paper presents a computer-assisted diagnostic system for mass detection and classification, which performs mass detection on regions of interest followed by the benign-malignant classification on detected masses. In order for mass detection to be effective, a sequence of preprocessing steps are designed to enhance the intensity of a region of interest, remove the noise effects and locate suspicious masses using five texture features generated from the spatial gray level difference matrix (SGLDM) and fractal dimension. Finally, a probabilistic neural network (PNN) coupled with entropic thresholding techniques is developed for mass extraction. Since the shapes of masses are crucial in classification between benignancy and malignancy, four shape features are further generated and joined with the five features previously used in mass detection to be implemented in another PNN for mass classification. To evaluate our designed system a data set collected in the Taichung Veteran General Hospital, Taiwan, R.O.C. was used for performance evaluation. The results are encouraging and have shown promise of our system.
