On Strong Secrecy for Multiple Access Channels With States and Causal CSI

Strong secrecy communication over a discrete memoryless state-dependent multiple access channel (SD-MAC) with an external eavesdropper is investigated. The channel is governed by discrete memoryless and i.i.d. channel states, and the channel state information (CSI) is revealed to the encoders in a causal manner. The main results of this paper are inner and outer bounds of the capacity region, for which we investigate coding schemes incorporating wiretap coding and secret key agreements between the sender and the legitimate receiver. Two kinds of block Markov coding schemes are proposed. The first is a new coding scheme that uses backward decoding and the Wyner-Ziv coding, and the secret key is constructed from a lossy description of the CSI. The other is an extended version of an existing coding scheme for point-to-point wiretap channels with causal CSI. A numerical example shows that the achievable region given by the first coding scheme can be strictly larger than the second one. However, these two schemes do not outperform each other in general, and there exist some numerical examples in which each coding scheme achieves some rate pairs that cannot be achieved by another scheme. Our established inner bound reduces to some best-known results in the literature as special cases. We further investigate some capacity-achieving cases for state-dependent multiple access wiretap channels (SD-MAWCs) with degraded message sets. It turns out that the two coding schemes are both optimal in these cases. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

L10-FePt-type bit-patterned media has provided a promising alternative for ultrahigh-density magnetic recording systems in the current digital era, but rapid fabrication of magnetic patterns with hyperfine bit islands is still challenging, especially with the target for miniaturization and scalable production simultaneously. Herein, Fe,Pt-containing block copolymers were utilized as single-source precursors for solution-processable patterning and subsequent generation of the demanding magnetic FePt dots by in situ pyrolysis. High-throughput nanoimprint lithography was initially employed to fabricate the predefined bit cells precisely,and then the intrinsic self-assembly of phase-separated block copolymers further drove the formation of accurate bit *** from the synergistic effect of top-down lithographic approach and bottom-up self-assembly, the customizable patterns could be achieved for large-scale mass production in targeted areas, but high-density isolated dots could also be accurately aligned along the patterned features after subsequent self-assembly. This reliable strategy would provide a good avenue to precisely construct ultrahigh-density magnetic data storage devices.

Scoliosis is a medical disorder characterised by an abnormal lateral curvature or bending of the spine that, if left untreated, can cause serious health problems. This work describes a deep learning-based strategy for automating the detection and assessment of scoliosis severity using medical X-ray images. The technology uses a U-Net design to partition spinal images, then identifies important spots to precisely determine vertebral positions. The Cobb angle, an important measure of scoliosis severity, is then calculated automatically using the segmented spine. The model was trained and evaluated using a dataset of X-rays from scoliosis and normal spines, and it demonstrated great accuracy in both Cobb angle estimation and scoliosis classification. Standard criteria like as accuracy and training loss were used to evaluate performance. It demonstrates the effectiveness of the suggested methodology in delivering a trustworthy and efficient tool for automated scoliosis screening and severity grading. This development has the potential to help clinicians improve diagnostic and treatment planning processes. © 2025 IEEE.

Acceleration Flight Control for Reduced Gravity Flight in Large Fixed-Wing Aircraft

Access to reduced-gravity environments is a cornerstone of space research, enabling scientific experiments in space-like conditions. While parabolic flights have long served as an accessible platform for microgravity studies, their reliance on manual piloting limits precision and repeatability. This paper introduces an autonomous flight control framework designed to execute reduced-gravity maneuvers in large fixed-wing aircraft. The proposed system regulates all four phases of the maneuver by commanding a reference acceleration profile. This approach enables precise control over the aircraft’s acceleration, ensuring consistent reduced gravity conditions critical for experimental applications. The control architecture comprises three specialized controllers: one each for tangential and normal acceleration regulation and another for minimizing angle-of-attack variations to dampen pitch oscillations. The proposed framework is evaluated on a nonlinear Boeing 747 model implemented in MATLAB Simulink. Simulation results show that the controller maintains residual accelerations within ±0.02g for zero-, lunar-, and Martian-gravity manoeuvres, matching the error margins reported in published flight data. Key challenges are addressed, such as non-minimum phase dynamics, altitude-dependent air density variations, and pitch oscillations at the center of gravity. These findings contribute to the advancement of autonomous flight control for more reliable and precise reduced-gravity research. © The Author(s) 2025.

The ability to handle threats, such as disinformation, manipulation of public opinion, and disruption of critical supplies, is becoming increasingly important, thus, necessitating, among other strategies, efforts to establish a proper risk communication to the public. This paper addresses the need for more empirical research in this area to contribute to the development of an in-depth understanding of public risk communication that includes information-related threats and cyber issues. The study involves officials of three public organizations entrusted with safety and security in society: the police, the rescue service, and the county administrative board of a county in the middle of Sweden. The results detail the recognition of risks to be communicated, the organization of the communication process, the messages that these actors seek to bring forth, and to whom as well as challenges of public risk communication in the digital era. The findings indicate that information-related and cyber risks are increasingly essential to consider as an additional layer of public communication. Two implications emerged as particularly important: (1) all communication about risks and crises must consider the systemic risk of mis- and disinformation, and (2) tailored communication about the risks interrelated with disinformation should use human-centered, dialogue-based, and moderated approaches. Further research can focus on associated challenges, considering the distribution of responsibilities, inter-organizational information sharing and cooperation, and the possibly stochastic effects on critical (information) infrastructures and, ultimately, societal values. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2025.

Visible Light Communication (VLC) has emerged as a promising technology for vehicular communication due to its high data rates, low latency, and immunity to electromagnetic interference. However, optimizing spectral efficiency and channel estimation in dynamic vehicular environments remains a key challenge. This paper proposes an OFDM-QAM-based VLC system to enhance spectral efficiency and improve channel estimation accuracy in vehicular networks. To achieve this, we leverage Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) data, which provides detailed insights into vehicular movement and traffic patterns. By integrating SUMO with VLC system simulations, we optimize modulation schemes, multiple access techniques, and spatial reuse strategies to adapt to varying traffic conditions. Additionally, a mathematical framework is developed to evaluate the impact of vehicular mobility on spectral efficiency and bit error rate (BER) performance across different QAM modulation schemes. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed VLC system significantly improves spectral efficiency, achieving values up to 1.4 bits/s/Hz, while maintaining low BER across varying Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) levels. These findings confirm the effectiveness of the proposed methodology in enhancing Visible Light Communication (VLC) performance for vehicular applications, making it a viable solution for next-generation intelligent transportation systems. © 2013 IEEE.

In this article the legend of Fig. 6 was presented without a reference. The legend of Fig. 6 has been changed from "The general framework for knowledge distillation involving a teacher-student relationship" to "The generic teacher-student framework for knowledge distillation [33]." In Sharma et al.’s research, two results obtained from the "KNN with ten-fold cross-validation" and "KNN with leave-one-subject-out cross-validation (LOSOCV)" methods are reported as the final results. Unfortunately, we mistakenly attributed the accuracy of one method. The rapid growth in digital image sharing, driven by advancements in internet and communication technologies, has raised concerns about image integrity, especially in sensitive fields like healthcare. This paper presents a fully blind fragile watermarking technique for authenticating and self-recovering color and grayscale medical images. The approach applies the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) to the cover image, and the resulting subbands are divided into 3×3 blocks. One authentication and four recovery watermarks are then embedded into the least significant bits (LSBs) of each block. During the extraction phase, if tampering is detected, the model accurately localizes the altered areas, and a three-level recovery process, including a new inpainting technique, is used to recover the original image. Results based on two publically available datasets demonstrate that this method delivers high-quality watermarked images, achieves optimal watermark extraction accuracy, and maintains high sensitivity to various attacks. Additionally, it provides precise tamper localization and delivers high-quality recovered images, even with tampering rates as high as 60%. © 2025 IEEE.

We study hierarchical properties of optimal transportation networks with biological background. The networks are obtained as minimizers of an energy functional which involves a metabolic cost term of a power-law form with exponent γ>0. In the range γ∈(0,1), most relevant for biological applications, the functional is non-convex and its local minima correspond to loop-free graphs (trees). We propose a numerical scheme that performs energy descent by searching the discrete set of local minimizers, combined with a Monte-Carlo approach. We verify the performance of the scheme in the borderline case γ=1, where the functional is convex. For a particular example of a leaf-shaped planar graph, we evaluate the global reaching centrality (GRC) of the (local) minimizers in dependence on the value of γ∈(0,1]. We observe that the GRC, which can be understood as a measure of hierarchical organization of the graph, monotonically increases with increasing γ. To our best knowledge, this is the first quantification of the influence of the value of the metabolic exponent on the hierarchical organization of the (almost) optimal transportation network. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
