Fundamental Limits of Two-Hop MIMO Channels: An Asymptotic Approach

Multi-antenna relays and intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) have been utilized to construct favorable channels to improve the performance of wireless systems. A common feature between relay systems and IRS-aided systems is the two-hop multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. As a result, the mutual information (MI) of two-hop MIMO channels has been widely investigated with very engaging results. However, a rigorous investigation on the fundamental limits of two-hop MIMO channels, i.e., the first and second-order analysis, is not yet available in the literature, due to the difficulties caused by the two-hop (product) channel and the noise introduced by the relay (active IRS). In this paper, we employ large random matrix theory, specifically Gaussian tools, to derive the closed form deterministic approximation for the mean and variance of the MI. Additionally, we determine the convergence rate for the mean, variance and the characteristic function of the MI, and prove the asymptotic Gaussianity. Furthermore, we also investigate the analytical properties of the fundamental equations that describe the closed-form approximation and prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution. An iterative algorithm is then proposed to obtain the solutions for the fundamental equations. Numerical results validate the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

L10-FePt-type bit-patterned media has provided a promising alternative for ultrahigh-density magnetic recording systems in the current digital era, but rapid fabrication of magnetic patterns with hyperfine bit islands is still challenging, especially with the target for miniaturization and scalable production simultaneously. Herein, Fe,Pt-containing block copolymers were utilized as single-source precursors for solution-processable patterning and subsequent generation of the demanding magnetic FePt dots by in situ pyrolysis. High-throughput nanoimprint lithography was initially employed to fabricate the predefined bit cells precisely,and then the intrinsic self-assembly of phase-separated block copolymers further drove the formation of accurate bit *** from the synergistic effect of top-down lithographic approach and bottom-up self-assembly, the customizable patterns could be achieved for large-scale mass production in targeted areas, but high-density isolated dots could also be accurately aligned along the patterned features after subsequent self-assembly. This reliable strategy would provide a good avenue to precisely construct ultrahigh-density magnetic data storage devices.

Place recognition serves as a fundamental component in tasks like loop closure detection and relocalization for mobile robots. Polar coordinate representations, such as Scan Context, which align with the data structure of range sensors, have become the most common data structure for point cloud descriptors in place recognition. While polar representations demonstrate the rotation invariance, they remain susceptible to translation variations. In this study, we introduce a novel approach: shifting the viewpoint of the original point cloud to construct the unified Scan Context, thereby mitigating translation variance. Our key concept focuses on identifying a stable, unified viewpoint for a given place and then pre-translating the point cloud accordingly. This naturally results in a descriptor devoid of translation variance. Importantly, within a given place, the viewpoint unification process tends to relocate the viewpoint to a similar position, irrespective of the original sensor perspective. In other words, the unified Scan Context becomes more closely associated with the place's structural characteristics than the physical location of the sensor. We validate our method through a series of comprehensive experiments encompassing synthetic scenarios and real-world datasets, showcasing its robustness in effectively handling translation variations. © 2024 IEEE.

The coexistence of coherent perfect absorber and laser or amplifier (CPAL) point is a peculiar spectral singularity associated with the scattering matrices of non-Hermitian systems. While the potential of CPAL systems for sensing application has been highlighted recently, the extreme sensitivity of parity-time (PT)-symmetric CPAL devices to the input signal deviations has so far impeded their practical utilization. Here we explore a strategy for implementing CPAL circuits by exploiting another type of non-Hermitian symmetry, namely anti-PT (APT) symmetry. We demonstrate that the condition for building CPAL in our proposed APT-symmetric electronic circuits additionally requires parity symmetry, which simplifies the circuit design and implementation. Additionally, we show that this newly proposed structure is 1.85 times more robust compared to previous CPAL devices studied in the literature.

Motion planning is a complicated task that requires the combination of perception, map information integration and prediction, particularly when driving in heavy traffic. Developing an extensible and efficient representation that visualizes sensor noise and provides basis to real-time planning tasks is desirable. We aim to develop an interpretable map representation, which offers prior of driving cost in planning tasks. In this way, we can simplify the planning process for dealing with complex driving scenarios and visualize sensor noise. Specifically, we propose a unified context representation empowered by deep neural networks. The unified representation is a differentiable risk field, which is an analytical representation of statistical cognition regarding traffic participants for downstream planning tasks. This representation method is nominated as RiskMap. A sampling-based planner is adopted to train and compare RiskMap generation methods. In this paper, the RiskMap generation tools and model structures are explored, the results illustrate that our method can improve driving safety and smoothness, and the limitation of our method is also discussed. © 2024 IEEE.

The paper presents project and its verification of a prototype integrated circuit containing an analog, programmable finite impulse response (FIR) filter, implemented in CMOS 350 nm technology. The structure of the filter is based on the switched capacitor technique. In circuits of this type, one of main challenges is an efficient implementation of filter coefficients, which result from several factors described in this work. When implementing such filters as programmable circuits, the values of their coefficients have to be limited to a selected range, i.e. a given resolution in bits. In the implemented prototype filter, the filter coefficients are represented by 6 bits in sign-magnitude notation, so they can take 63 different values only. In such filters, it is not possible to directly implement any frequency response of the filter. Each time, it is necessary to properly round the theoretical values of the coefficients so that they fit into the available range of discrete values resulting from the implementation. The authors of the work designed an algorithm that allows such matching. Sensor network localization (SNL) is a challenging problem due to its inherent non-convexity and the effects of noise in inter-node ranging measurements and anchor node position. We formulate a non-convex SNL problem as a multiplayer non-convex potential game and investigate the existence and uniqueness of a Nash equilibrium (NE) in both the ideal setting without measurement noise and the practical setting with measurement noise. We first show that the NE exists and is unique in the noiseless case, and corresponds to the precise network localization. Then, we study the SNL for the case with errors affecting the anchor node position and the inter-node distance measurements. Specifically, we establish that in case these errors are sufficiently small, the NE exists and is unique. It is shown that the NE is an approximate solution to the SNL problem, and that the position errors can be quantified accordingly. Based on these findings, we apply the results to case studies involving only inter-node distance measurement errors and only anchor position information inaccuracies. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we introduce a neural network (NN)-based framework aimed at classifying sensing and communication signals at base stations, improving the efficiency of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems in a bistatic configuration. The framework leverages a key mathematical insight: the Hankelized matrix formed from an equidistantly sampled signal of sparsely superimposed radio waves exhibits a low-rank property, whereas a frequency-modulated signal lacks this characteristic. It ensures that, even in practical environments, the Hankelized matrix of a sensing or communication channel statistically retains the relevant information. Hence, we use the singular values of the Hankelized matrix as the input to the neural NN, while the output is a one-hot encoded vector indicating whether the received signal is intended for sensing or communication. We investigate three scenarios where the communication and sensing signals either use the same or different waveforms in terms of the detection performance of the communication signals. The results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing approaches in classification performance across all scenarios, regardless of whether the communication and sensing signals utilize the same waveform or not. The framework achieves a detection rate of over 95% even at an SNR of 0 dB. Notably, the network performs well in terms of a small number of pilot symbols, a small number of training dataset, and dynamic environments. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper, the inverse Kalman filtering problem is addressed using a duality-based framework, where certain statistical properties of uncertainties in a dynamical model are recovered from observations of its posterior estimates. The duality relation in inverse filtering and inverse optimal control is established. It is shown that the inverse Kalman filtering problem can be solved using results from a well-posed inverse linear quadratic regulator. Identifiability of the considered inverse filtering model is proved and a unique covariance matrix is recovered by a least squares estimator, which is also shown to be statistically consistent. Effectiveness of the proposed methods is illustrated by numerical simulations.

In this paper, a compact ultra-wideband patch antenna is presented and discussed. The antenna, printed on Rogers RT5580, consists of leaf-shaped radiating element excited through tapered coplanar waveguide feed line, and semi-elliptical partial ground plane. It covers a frequency range starting from 2.8 to 15.1 GHz. The antenna prototype is fabricated, and a good agreement is obtained between the experimental and simulation results indicating that the proposed structure, having a reasonably compact size of 20x32 mm2 is suitable for a wide variety of applications due to its large operating frequency. © 2022 IEEE.
