This paper investigates privacy issues in distributed resource allocation over directed networks, where each agent holds a private cost function and optimizes its decision subject to a global coupling constraint through local interaction with other agents. Conventional methods for resource allocation over directed networks require all agents to transmit their original data to neighbors, which poses the risk of disclosing sensitive and private information. To address this issue, we propose an algorithm called differentially private dual gradient tracking (DP-DGT) for distributed resource allocation, which obfuscates the exchanged messages using independent Laplacian noise. Our algorithm ensures that the agents’ decisions converge to a neighborhood of the optimal solution almost surely. Furthermore, without the assumption of bounded gradients, we prove that the cumulative differential privacy loss under the proposed algorithm is finite even when the number of iterations goes to infinity. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to simultaneously achieve these two goals in distributed resource allocation problems over directed networks. Finally, numerical simulations on economic dispatch problems within the IEEE 14-bus system illustrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm. © 2024, CC BY.

Electromagnetic waves with orbital angular momentum (OAM) have garnered significant interest by reason of their potential in designing advanced communication systems. This paper reports on a specific design of a flexible graphene-based antenna for RF vortex wave generation. The antenna is composed of a ring-shaped resonator made of a graphene film with high conductivity deposited on a thin polydimethylsiloxane substrate. The graphene film is characterized by greater strength to repeated mechanical bending than metallic counterparts while providing good conductivity of the patch. We use the commercial ANSYS HFSS 3D electromagnetic solver to conduct full-wave numerical simulations of the antenna performances and radiation conditions, simulating the generation of vortex waves at different bending radii of the antenna. The mode purity is evaluated with the use of the spiral spectrum algorithm to reveal the stability of the vortex wave generation by the antenna in bent states. Several pilot samples of the antenna working in the RF band are fabricated and tested. Calculated together with empirical results demonstrate that the flexible antenna can stably generate vortex waves even subjected to either outward or inward bending. The proposed flexible graphene-based antenna has the potential for application in wireless communication systems. © 2024 IEEE.

A coupled system of volume integral and two-fluid hydrodynamic equations is solved to analyze electromagnetic field interactions with non-local dispersion effects on semiconductor nanostructures. This coupled system, where the hydrodynamic currents and the electric flux are the unknowns, is discretized using Schaubert-Wilton-Glisson basis functions. Numerical results obtained using this solver show the presence of so-called acoustic modes at the frequencies lower than the resonance frequency of localized surface plasmon (LSP) mode. These modes cannot be identified if a Drude-like model or the single-fluid hydrodynamic equation is used to represent the electrical properties of the semiconductors. © 2022 IEEE.

The article studies a MOEMS-accelerometer with an optical measuring element based on an optical tunneling effect intended for measuring micro-g accelerations. The work estimates the sensitivity threshold of the accelerometer based on the Noise Equivalent Acceleration, which is stipulated by thermal Brownian motion of molecules, noises of a laser and photodiode. Shot noise has the largest effect on the MOEMS-accelerometer noise threshold and depends on its mechanical properties. The general sensitivity of the MOEMS-accelerometer equals 0.938, 3, or 6.255 A/g, depending on a chosen operational point. The sensitivity threshold in terms of photodiode dark current equals 107 × 10-9 g, 33.3 × 10-9 g, 16 × 10-9 g. The dynamic range for the photodiode equals ± 3.2 × 10-3 g, while for the measuring transducer it is ±0.32g, ±0.1, or ±0.05g. To decrease the noise down to 0.1 µ g, the inertial mass should amount at least to 65 × 10-7 kg, and the average laser noise power should be below 1 %. © 2022 IEEE.

One of the most critical processes in the petroleum industry is transporting crude oil and its derivatives. Usually, it is done, due to easiness and economic aspects, through pipelines;several products, such as gasoline, kerosene, naphtha, and liquefied petroleum gas, among others, are moved in batch processes to both distribution and storage centers or transport ships. Since these transport systems transport different products, many works have focused on developing optimization strategies for scheduling these pipelines. That is, strategies that seek to optimize the use of the pipeline by establishing at what time points certain products must be transported. These strategies would be located at the planning level in the automation pyramid. In this work, on the other hand, different control strategies are proposed for a pipeline, but at the operation level. These strategies would be located at the control level, below the planning strategies in the automation pyramid. A pipeline of three pipe sections is modeled to develop the proposed control strategies, and the mathematical model is validated with actual data. The results show that, first, the proposed model approximates the actual behavior of the pipeline quite well and, second, that the combination of PID and feedforward control is an excellent alternative to implement control strategies for the operation of liquid transportation systems through pipelines. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2025.

A coupled system of volume integral and hydrodynamic equations is formulated to analyze electromagnetic scattering from composite plasmonic structures involving a metal-metal interface. This coupled system in unknowns electric flux and free electron velocity is discretized using Schaubert-Wilton-Glisson basis functions. Inserting these expansions into the coupled system of equations and applying Galerkin testing yield a matrix equation. Two-level iterative scheme is used to solve this matrix equation for the unknown expansion coefficients. To demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method, numerical results are compared to those obtained using an extended Mie series approach that takes into account the hydrodynamic equation and the boundary conditions it requires. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper investigates a microoptoelectromechanical accelerometer that implements optical measuring transducer built based on the optical tunneling effect. The optical transducer is a directional optical coupler that contains moving and fixed waveguides from Si3 N4 with dimensions of 0.3 ×1 µm. The treatise studies the normalized transmission at the directional coupler output depending on the gap and coupling length. Due to the positioning system, the optical measuring transducer can have several operating points with different optical sensitivity. For instance, for a set coupling length of 100 µm, the sensitivity of the directional coupler may reach 6.25 × 106 m-1, 20 × 106 m-1 or 41.7 × 106 m-1 for initial gaps of 255, 120 and 70 nm, correspondingly. The comb-drive actuator has three independent stages with 600, 50 and 4 fingers. It allows setting a necessary gap (from 0 to 2.8 µm) between the waveguides. It also imitates microaccelerations (from 16 micro-g to 3 g) by using electrostatic forces. The study proposes a method for selecting parameters of the positioning system (electrode voltage, number of fingers, spring suspension stiffness and inertial mass). © 2022 IEEE.

In order to bolster future wireless networks, there has been a great deal of interest in non-terrestrial networks, especially aerial platforms including high-altitude platform stations (HAPS) and uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs). These platforms can integrate advanced technologies such as reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). In this regard, this paper proposes a multi-layer network architecture consisting of HAPS and UAV, where the former acts as a HAPS super macro base station (HAPS-SMBS), while the latter serves as a relay node for the ground Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The UAV is equipped with active transmissive RIS, which is a novel technology with promising benefits. We also utilize multiple-input single-output (MISO) technology, i.e., multiple antennas at the HAPS-SMBS and a single antenna at the IoT devices. Additionally, we consider NOMA as the multiple access technology as well as the existence of hardware impairments as a practical limitation. We compare the proposed system model with various scenarios, all involving the HAPS-SMBS and RIS-equipped UAV relay combination, but with different types of RIS, antenna configurations, and access technologies. Sum rate and energy efficiency are used as performance metrics, and the findings demonstrate that, in comparison to all benchmarks, the proposed system yields significant performance gains. Moreover, hardware impairment limits the system performance at high transmit power levels. © 2025 IEEE.

Antenna position estimation is an important problem in large irregular arrays where the positions might not be known very accurately from the start. In a previous paper we presented a method using harmonically related signals transmitted from an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), with the added advantage that the UAV can be in the near-field of the receiving antenna array. It was shown that the method delivers excellent results using ideal synthetic data with added noise. In this paper we continue the work by simulating the problem in a full-wave solver. Although the results are less accurate than when synthetic data are used, due to the effects of mutual coupling, the method still performs satisfactorily, with errors smaller than 4% of the smallest transmitted wavelength. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper focuses on two inverse problems of the Kalman filter in which the process and measurement noises are correlated. The unknown covariance matrix in a stochastic system is reconstructed from observations of its posterior beliefs. For the standard inverse Kalman filtering problem, a novel duality-based formulation is proposed, where a well-defined inverse optimal control (IOC) problem is solved instead. Identifiability of the underlying model is proved, and a least squares estimator is designed that is statistically consistent. The time-invariant case using the steady-state Kalman gain is further studied. Since this inverse problem is ill-posed, a canonical class of covariance matrices is constructed, which can be uniquely identified from the dataset with asymptotic convergence. Finally, the performances of the proposed methods are illustrated by numerical examples.
