This paper addresses the problem of road traffic congestion detection. We propose an effective approach to detect traffic congestion by combining the piecewise switched linear traffic (PWSL) and Shewhart control scheme. This approach uses PWSL model to describe the evolution of traffic density, and Shewhart chart to detect traffic congestions based on residuals obtained from PWSL model. The PWSL-Shewhart approach is evaluated using traffic data from the four-lane State Route 60 (SR-60) freeway in California. Results indicate that our approach accomplished reliable detection of traffic congestion.

This work presents a method for the fast and efficient characterization of the system level electrostatic discharge (ESD) noise coupling to real portable computer (note-book) motherboard. The coupled noise to the commercial laptop motherboard, in both operational and non-operational conditions, is predicted in SPICE type circuit simulator using the derived coupling transfer impedance function from scattering (S) parameters. 8-parameters between the aggressor and victim positions are measured using the proposed different method, without any modification in ESD generator, for the calculation of the coupling transfer impedance function. A good degree of accuracy is observed between the time domain measured and simulated results using proposed method.

This paper proposes a method to analyze antenna performance degradation due to electromagnetic interference (EMI) between an antenna and a noise source using active scattering (S) parameters. The victim is a printed planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) and the noise source over the victim is high frequency signals coming from a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) via a loop shaped transmission line. Operating the VCO distorts the return loss of nearby antenna, which results in the degradation of the antenna performance. The excitation power of noise source was measured by probing the power of veo circuit, and were used for the input in the active S -parameters calculations. The validity of the proposed method was confirmed by the good agreement between the simulated and measured results.

Our pipeline consists of a hand-crafted preprocessor and a neural network classifier. We applied transformations on the physiologic signals to gain features in both time- and frequency domains. The proposed algorithm was trained on 994 annotated records of polysomnographic signals. Most of the features were generated from the EEG signal such as power spectral density, and entropy. We extracted features from the EOG, EMG, airflow, and ECG signals too. All the features were normalized. These 68 features were resampled in 21 non-continuous moments around the current timestamp, and fed into a 3-layer neural network in order to assign a probability of arousal at each second. Arousal samples were enriched during training to battle data imbalance. Additional (auxiliary) losses can guide the network to learn high-level concepts, even though they will not be evaluated. We used sleep stages as additional training targets, which were easier to learn than arousals despite being multi-class. This approach slightly increased arousal AUPRC. Our submitted results for the entire test set were evaluated: AUPRC=0.42. Our 10-fold cross validation results for the AUPRC are the following: [0.47110, 0.41672, 0.44305, 0.42842, 0.44644, 0.47969, 0.45082, 0.49320, 0.45913, 0.41278] averaging 0.450.
