The article presents studies on the automatic whispery speech recognition. In the performed research a new corpus with whispery speech has been used. It has been checked whether the extended set of articulatory units (allophones have been used instead of phonemes) improves quality of whispery speech recognition. Experimental results show that the small changes in the allophone set may provide better speech recognition quality than using phonemes approach. The authors also made available the trained g2p (grapheme-to-phoneme) model of Polish language for the Sequitur toolkit.

In the paper an impact of the calculations dispersion level in a power system on the estimation quality has been presented. The dispersion level has been changed from the smallest (calculations for the whole system) to the largest (individual calculations in each node of the system). The obtained results have been compared with the estimation quality of dispersed case of extended Kalman filter. Based on the performed simulation it has been concluded that the dispersion has positive influence on the estimation quality of dispersed particle filter method, but only to a certain level, i.e. in case of power system division into very small parts, unsatisfactory results have been obtained.

In this paper we address a problem of automatic generation of the so-called density maps (heat maps) using video recordings acquired from surveillance CCTV systems in urban areas (CCTV - closed circuit television). Our software for density map estimation increments the accumulation table only in case of detecting a new moving object, resulting in a count of moving objects density map. We also applied an algorithm for projective transformation of image to achieve better accuracy of the moving object density maps. We analyzed the proposed solution for different angles of camera positions. Next the results were compared with the density maps calculated from the top view camera position.

Design of the topology and layout for an analog finite impulse response (FIR) filter realized in the CMOS technology using the switched capacitor (SC) technique, is presented. The filter is based on the so called “rotator structure” supplemented with the programmable capacitor array. This array makes the on-line adjusting of the frequency response of the filter possible in a very wide range, thus, enlarges the area of applications of this circuit, e.g., to multi-standard wireless communication, software-defined radio, adaptive systems, etc. The presented circuit realizes filters of orders up to 15 (16 filter coefficients). The maximum frequency range approaches ca. 2 MHz. The circuit dissipates ca. 8 mW from the power supply.

The paper presents a family of novel light blob shape descriptors for use in selected active safety algorithms used in Advanced Driver Assistance systems (ADAS). One of the motivations was to obtain a descriptor that would ensure low computational complexity. This makes it easy to implement both in software and hardware. One assumption is that the location of the center of a given light spot is approximately known. The principle of its operation is then to count white pixels in selected directions, starting from this central point. A key issue here is an efficient way of determining indexes of particular pixels belonging to the image patch, as well as the location of points representing places where the white area turns into black. In the case of a hardware implementation, this can be done using a parallel circuit operating in asynchronous mode, without the need for a control clock.

Diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) is essential for stroke diagnosis, treatment decisions, and prognosis. However, image and disease variability hinder the development of generalizable AI algorithms with clinical value. We address this gap by presenting a novel ensemble algorithm derived from the 2022 Ischemic Stroke Lesion Segmentation (ISLES) challenge. ISLES’22 provided 400 patient scans with ischemic stroke from various medical centers, facilitating the development of a wide range of cutting-edge segmentation algorithms by the research community. By assessing them against a hidden test set, we identified strengths, weaknesses, and potential biases. Through collaboration with leading teams, we combined top-performing algorithms into an ensemble model that overcomes the limitations of individual solutions. Our ensemble model combines the individual algorithms’ strengths and achieved superior ischemic lesion detection and segmentation accuracy (median Dice score: 0.82, median lesion-wise F1 score: 0.86) on our internal test set compared to individual algorithms. This accuracy generalized well across diverse image and disease variables. Furthermore, the model excelled in extracting clinical biomarkers like lesion types and affected vascular territories. Notably, in a Turing-like test, neuroradiologists consistently preferred the algorithm’s segmentations over manual expert efforts, highlighting increased comprehensiveness and precision. Validation using a real-world external dataset (N=1686) confirmed the model’s generalizability (median Dice score: 0.82, median lesion-wise F1 score: 0.86). The algorithm’s outputs also demonstrated strong correlations with clinical scores (admission NIHSS and 90-day mRS) on par with or exceeding expert-derived results, underlining its clinical relevance. This study offers two key findings. First, we present an ensemble algorithm that detects and segments ischemic stroke lesions on DWI across diverse scenarios on par with expert (neuro)rad
