Extended linear regression model for vessel trajectory prediction with a-priori AIS information

As maritime activities increase globally,there is a greater dependency on technology in monitoring,control,and surveillance of vessel *** of the most prominent systems for monitoring vessel activity is the Automatic Identification System(AIS).An increase in both vessels fitted with AIS transponders and satellite and terrestrial AIS receivers has resulted in a significant increase in AIS messages received *** resultant rich spatial and temporal data source related to vessel activity provides analysts with the ability to perform enhanced vessel movement analytics,of which a pertinent example is the improvement of vessel location *** this paper,we propose a novel strategy for predicting future locations of vessels making use of historic AIS *** proposed method uses a Linear Regression Model(LRM)and utilizes historic AIS movement data in the form of a-priori generated spatial maps of the course over ground(LRMAC).The LRMAC is an accurate low complexity first-order method that is easy to implement operationally and shows promising results in areas where there is a consistency in the directionality of historic vessel *** areas where the historic directionality of vessel movement is diverse,such as areas close to harbors and ports,the LRMAC defaults to the *** proposed LRMAC method is compared to the Single-Point Neighbor Search(SPNS),which is also a first-order method and has a similar level of computational complexity,and for the use case of predicting tanker and cargo vessel trajectories up to 8 hours into the future,the LRMAC showed improved results both in terms of prediction accuracy and execution time.

Performance Analysis of a Novel Relay Selection Scheme for Wireless-Powered Cluster-Based Multi-Hop Cognitive Relay Networks

In this paper, we study the performance of wireless-powered cluster-based multi-hop cognitive relay networks (MCRNs), where secondary nodes harvest energy from multiple dedicated power beacons (PBs) and share the spectrum with multiple primary receivers (PRs) in the underlay paradigm. For this system, we propose a hop-by-hop relay selection scheme called the largest decoding set (LDS). In each stage, relay selection is based on the harvested energy from PBs and the channel state information (CSI) of both the interference links to PRs and the relaying links in the subsequent hop. Considering both harvested energy and maximum interference constraints, we derive the exact end-to-end outage probability and show that the results closely match those obtained from simulations. Moreover, the asymptotic end-to-end outage probabilities in two different scenarios are derived to provide more valuable insights. Numerical results show that the outage probability of the proposed LDS scheme is very close to that of the best-path scheduling (BPS) scheme, which provides a lower bound on outage probability but requires global CSI before the secondary source transmits. We also compare the LDS scheme with other relay selection schemes that have appeared recently in the literature and show that LDS has the best outage performance. © 2024 IEEE.

To enable message transmission among sensors and equipment,power line communication(PLC)is a widely adopted smart ***,due to the occurrence of impulsive noise(IN),reliable transmissions over PLC channels in the smart grid are ***,in this paper,we propose an adaptive noise mitigation scheme to clip the IN with the sliding window-based method,where the altitude of the received signal in the current time slots is obtained by computing the average altitude of signals in the previous and next time *** detect the states of IN and dynamically estimate the power threshold of signals for the IN mitigation scheme,we develop an intelligent algorithm based on the long short-term memory *** prevent the useful signals from being eliminated as IN signals,we propose the accelerated proximal gradient method(APGM)based on tone reservation to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR)for the transmitting signals with low computational *** addition,the closed-form expression of the bit error rate(BER)is derived for the proposed sliding window-based IN mitigation scheme according to the probability density function of the *** results demonstrate that the proposed IN mitigation scheme achieves a better BER performance than the conventional IN mitigation *** addition,the APGM aided by IN mitigation can further improve BER performance due to the PAPR reduction.

In 2023,pivotal advancements in artificial intelligence(AI)have significantly *** that in mind,traditional methodologies,notably the p-y approach,have struggled to accurately model the complex,nonlinear soil-structure interactions of laterally loaded large-diameter drilled *** study undertakes a rigorous evaluation of machine learning(ML)and deep learning(DL)techniques,offering a comprehensive review of their application in addressing this geotechnical challenge.A thorough review and comparative analysis have been carried out to investigate various AI models such as artificial neural networks(ANNs),relevance vector machines(RVMs),and least squares support vector machines(LSSVMs).It was found that despite ML approaches outperforming classic methods in predicting the lateral behavior of piles,their‘black box'nature and reliance only on a data-driven approach made their results showcase statistical robustness rather than clear geotechnical insights,a fact underscored by the mathematical equations derived from these ***,the research identified a gap in the availability of drilled shaft datasets,limiting the extendibility of current findings to large-diameter *** extensive dataset,compiled from a series of lateral loading tests on free-head drilled shaft with varying properties and geometries,was introduced to bridge this *** paper concluded with a direction for future research,proposes the integration of physics-informed neural networks(PINNs),combining data-driven models with fundamental geotechnical principles to improve both the interpretability and predictive accuracy of AI applications in geotechnical engineering,marking a novel contribution to the field.

Improving Maritime Data: A Machine Learning-based Model for Missing Vessel Trajectories Reconstruction

Advancements in maritime satellite technology have significantly impacted the maritime industry, enhancing both communication and safety at sea. These technological improvements have enabled Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) to transmit data through robust maritime communication networks. However, despite these advancements, AIS data often contain significant missing data due to limitations in both devices and network coverage. To overcome these limitations, this research presents an innovative approach for reconstructing missing points. In this paper, we first extracted the geometric shape and motion characteristics of vessels and constructed a decision tree using an adaptive sparse constraint mechanism to classify four types of vessel trajectories. Then, the vessel classification findings serve as input and the vessel acceleration features are constructed using the heading and velocity features of the trajectories at both ends. Finally, We employ a bidirectional Gate Recurrent Unit (GRU) network to simultaneously train on historical trajectory data. The method progressively shortens the reconstructed trajectory, thereby enhancing the accuracy of the reconstruction. In this paper, comparative experiments are conducted with several algorithms across various dimensions, including algorithm performance, trajectory types, and navigation scenarios. It is indicated by the experimental results that the algorithm discussed in this study outperforms baselines. Significant methodological advancements in vessel trajectory reconstruction are represented by this study, which also shows promising potential for application in intelligent maritime transportation systems. © 1967-2012 IEEE All rights reserved.

Magnetic nanoparticles have been used in various biomedical applications. Among these, magnetic particle imaging and hyperthermia are considered clinically useful diagnostic and therapeutic methods, respectively. An alternating magnetic field is applied to the magnetic nanoparticles in these methods. The magnetization response of a magnetic nanoparticle is essential, and the dependence of its field intensity and frequency determines its diagnostic and therapeutic performance. This article reviews the fundamental issues of the magnetization process and magnetization relaxation of magnetic nanoparticles and presents our recent experimental results. © 2023 by the Magnetics Society of Japan.

Multi-Agent Imitation Learning Based Energy Management of a Microgrid With Hybrid Energy Storage and Real-Time Pricing

Microgrids equipped with hybrid energy storage systems (ESSs) are increasingly critical for balancing the intermittency of renewable energy sources (RESs) and the fluctuations in demand. This paper introduces a novel Multi-Agent Imitation Learning (MAIL) framework for real-time energy management in microgrids, particularly under real-time pricing conditions. The approach leverages a problem decomposition strategy, which separates the energy management task into two phases: first, optimal actions for each ESS are estimated using individual agents, each employing a deep neural network (DNN) trained to emulate an ideal mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) solver;then, a one-step online optimization reacts to these decisions to optimize the remaining system components holistically. Rigorous proofs establish the equivalence of the decomposed subproblems to the original optimization problem, ensuring integrity and effectiveness. Comparative simulation studies with real-world data reveal that our MAIL framework offers significant cost advantages and superior training efficiency relative to both traditional single and emerging multi-agent reinforcement learning (RL) methods. Notably, the operational costs achieved through our approach are markedly lower than those of its counterparts, closely approximating the theoretical minimum. This underscores the method's proficiency and its potential as an effective solution for microgrid energy management. Moreover, the MAIL strategy's multi-agent design allows for straightforward scalability to more extensive systems involving multiple ESSs and shows promising potential for cooperative management across interconnected microgrids. © 2014 IEEE.

The integration of electroencephalography (EEG) and photoplethysmography (PPG) in consumer-grade wearable devices is revolutionizing healthcare by enabling continuous health monitoring. However, these devices face significant challenges in terms of power consumption, computational complexity, and data storage, necessitating efficient data compression techniques. This paper proposes a modified Golomb-Rice coding method tailored for lossy compression of multi-channel EEG and PPG signals. By leveraging the statistical properties of filtered data and employing an optimized parameter estimation strategy, the proposed method achieves high compression ratios while minimizing computational overhead and preserving critical signal information. The proposed algorithm shifts data to handle negative values, scales and converts it into an appropriate format for encoding, and uses a novel parameter estimation technique to optimize the Golomb-Rice parameter. Extensive simulations on EEG and PPG datasets demonstrate that this parameter estimation method yields significantly better performance, improving both efficiency and processing speed. Results underscore the importance of preprocessing in data compression and provide a robust framework for future advancements in biomedical signal processing. © 2024 IEEE.

With the burgeon deployment of the fifth-generation new radio (5 G NR) networks, the codebook plays a crucial role in enabling the base station (BS) to acquire the channel state information (CSI). Different 5 G NR codebooks incur varying overheads and exhibit performance disparities under diverse channel conditions, necessitating codebook adaptation based on channel conditions to reduce feedback overhead while enhancing performance. However, existing methods of 5 G NR codebooks adaptation require significant overhead for model training and feedback or fall short in performance. To address these limitations, this letter introduces a federated reservoir computing framework designed for efficient codebook adaptation in computationally and feedback resource-constrained mobile devices. This framework utilizes a novel series of indicators as input training data, striking an effective balance between performance and feedback overhead. Compared to conventional models, the proposed codebook adaptation via federated reservoir computing (CA-FedRC), achieves rapid convergence and significant loss reduction in both speed and accuracy. Extensive simulations under various channel conditions demonstrate that our algorithm not only reduces resource consumption of users but also accurately identifies channel types, thereby optimizing the trade-off between spectrum efficiency, computational complexity, and feedback overhead. © 1967-2012 IEEE.
