Constraint solving is a fundamental tenet of most test case generation strategies. However, conventional constraint solving methods were not designed in consideration of that aspect of test case generation. It has led to a situation where test case generation techniques can miss test cases when constraints contain function invocations. This is due to the fact that, when solving constraints to generate test cases, function invocations are not effectively handled and, as a result, solutions to some constraints are not found even though they do exist. This problem occurs in both specification-based and code-based testing. To address the problem, this paper presents a function substitution method that transforms test case constraints that contain certain types of functions into equivalent constraints that do not contain those functions. The transformation preserves the solution space and avoids missed test cases. As a result, the completeness of test case generation can be improved.

Summary form only given. Although Multi-touch devices have become common in the consumer world, users have sacrificed the tactile feedback afforded by physical buttons. The Bristol interaction and Graphics group has been exploring various technical solutions to create the next generation of touch interfaces that support multi-point haptic feedback as well as dynamic allocation of views to different users. In this talk I will present UltraHaptics a multi-point haptic feedback system that allows users to experience haptic feedback simultaneously in multiple locations on an interactive surface. This feedback is created in midair - so users don't have to touch or hold any device to experience it. Another system I will be talking about it PiVOT, a tabletop system where users can come together and view shared content or by leaning forward can get personalised views that are only visible from their particular view-point. This talk will present our recent research endeavors in this direction and present some design challenges.

Nowadays, with the rapid development of vehicle industry in China, an increasing number of companies realized the importance of culture adaption, when implementing ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance System) to the vehicles in China. However, some designing issues of these systems need to be solved, taking consideration of driver's behavior and traffic situation in China. There is a lack of studies on Chinese drivers and related to HMI design of ADAS systems in the literature. There are limited reports on Chinese traffic and drivers studies, but still lack of the necessary depth. Some interaction design methodologies, including personas, focus group study, questionnaire and so on, were used in these reports. However, these studies are neither intensive nor comprehensive. Although (part of) the issues are brought up and analyzed, only general solutions are mentioned for the designing of the systems. Present paper, through literature review, indicated different areas that need to be focused on that are related to culture issues and the possible methodologies that can be applied. © 2011 IEEE.

Nowadays, a lot of inverted pendulum robots have been developed. The complexity of the dynamical control systems is increased and they are advanced toward autonomous inverted pendulum robots. When the controllers are designed, the software MATLAB/Simulink is often used. It is well known that it is a very useful tool to design and analyze motion control systems. However, it is not always useful to express huge or multifunctional systems. At that time, System Modeling language (SysML) is known as a useful tool for that system design. Then it seems the usage of the both tools are useful. In order to develop the inverted pendulum robots in practice, we need multi-stand points for the real time systems. We have to study the both of them and investigate how to fill the gap. This paper introduces our requirement, overview of inverted pendulum robot system, hardware configurations, and map the balancing control using observer based control from Simulink model to SysML models. Furthermore, SysML is a guideline to define the interconnection between functions and combine them together. © 2011 SICE.

Multiple Cooperative Bilateral Teleoperation with Time-Varying Delay

This paper deals with a passive-decomposition based control of bilateral teleoperation between a single master robot and multiple cooperative slave robots with time varying delay. First, we decompose the dynamics of multiple slave robots into two decoupled dynamics by using the passive-decomposition: the shape-system describing dynamics of the cooperative works and the locked-system representing the overall behavior of the multiple slave robots. Second, we propose a PD control method for bilateral teleoperation to guarantee asymptotic stability of the system with time varying delay. Finally, experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed teleoperation.

This paper introduces an efficient Eigen values based technique for online iris image compression and identification of a human including the case of identical twins. The iris image is extracted after removing the pupil, eye brow, skin and other noise disturbances from an actual image. The extracted iris image is divided into different blocks of size of 16 × 16. Now, Eigen values are calculated for each block and these Eigen values are stored in the smart card memory for further identification. Therefore, when checking if two iris images are identical or not, all we need is to compare the stored Eigen values with online calculated Eigen values. If two iris images have the same Eigen values, this means that both iris images belong to the same person. In our research, we have concluded that iris images of different persons have different Eigen values, including the case of identical twins. We conducted experiments on CASIA and Multimedia University iris image databases and we found that our Eigen Values Based Iris Image Identification Technique is giving 99.99% accuracy for the same image of identical twins and individuals. The implementation leads us to believe that our method is giving the best matching result in the case of identical twins and individuals. It is an efficient, secure and economically feasible approach for online personal identification.

Electric and hybrid electric vehicles (EV/HEV) have the advantage of being more environmentally friendly and quieter than internal combustion engine vehicles. However, reduced noise can also lead to potentially dangerous situations for pedestrians when an oncoming vehicle is inaudible due to background noise (e.g. Kerber and Fastl, internoise 2007). The installation of devices that produce warning sounds in vehicles to alert pedestrians is being considered in various countries. Because this is a global topic, it is of vital interest to determine whether there exist cross-cultural differences. Pilot studies on this topic were performed in Japan (Yamauchi et al., internoise 2010) and, with improved input devices and test procedure, in Germany (Menzel et al., DAGA 2011). The level of three possible warning sounds (engine noise, car horn, and band-pass noise) were adjusted in presence of four different urban background sounds (busy street, residential area, heavy traffic, and shopping area) in laboratory environments. In the first part of the experiments, subjects were asked to adjust the level of the warning sounds so that they were clearly audible and could be reliably detected in the background noise. In the second part the goal was to adjust the level so that the warning sounds were just audible. The results of the adjustments showed no significant difference between the two subjects groups. The results were discussed in view of inter-individual and intraindividual differences. Moreover, the results were compared to current recommendations for sound levels of warning sounds in quiet vehicles.

Ant-inspired search techniques for solving the zero-one knapsack problem with multiple constraints

In this paper, we consider the multidimensional zero-one knapsack problem (0-1 MKP). The objective of the problem is to find a subset of objects that yields maximum profit without violating knapsack constraints. The 0-1 MKP is known to be NP-hard. Due to the intractability of the problem, numerous research efforts have focused on various approximation algorithms to acquire satisfactory suboptimal solutions within a reasonable amount of computation cost. However, most realistic approaches for solving the 0-1 MKP still remain to be improved. On the basis of ant colony optimization, we therefore propose a novel constructive algorithm. The proposed algorithm, namely AST-MKP, adopts a new type of constructive graph for leading artificial ants in making decisions to select effective solution components. Moreover, we also devise a local search scheme to advance the quality of solutions obtained. The performance of the AST-MKP algorithm is demonstrated by comparing it against other existing algorithms in terms of overall profit for a set of problem instances obtained form the OR-Library. Experimental results indicate that the algorithm proposed here performs significantly better than the competitive approaches.
