Visual object tracking and segmentation in omnidirectional videos are challenging due to the wide field-of-view and large spherical distortion brought by 360° images. To alleviate these problems, we introduce a novel representation, extended bounding field-of-view (eBFoV), for target localization and use it as the foundation of a general 360 tracking framework which is applicable for both omnidirectional visual object tracking and segmentation tasks. Building upon our previous work on omnidirectional visual object tracking (360VOT), we propose a comprehensive dataset and benchmark that incorporates a new component called omnidirectional video object segmentation (360VOS). The 360VOS dataset includes 290 sequences accompanied by dense pixel-wise masks and covers a broader range of target categories. To support both the development and evaluation of algorithms in this domain, we divide the dataset into a training subset with 170 sequences and a testing subset with 120 sequences. Furthermore, we tailor evaluation metrics for both omnidirectional tracking and segmentation to ensure rigorous assessment. Through extensive experiments, we benchmark state-of-the-art approaches and demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed 360 tracking framework and training dataset. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Event driven architectures are widely used in numerous software applications, for instance in GUI focused software. Currently most event driven softwares are applied merely in local environment. If we need to use event driven architecture in a distributed environment, there are not too many candidates to choose from. Thus, although there are a number of techniques which support the event notification in distributed environments, such as Comet technique and ESB platform, we still require a light-weight and user-friendly system, free from platform and protocol, to support event notification in the Web environment. In this paper we implemented a middleware which supports event subscription and publication based on Web Service. Through the evaluations afterwards we finally found out the limitations of our current system and we offered our suggestions accordingly.

Hydrodynamic wave loading at coastal structures is a complex phenomenon to quantify. The chaotic nature of the fluid flow field as waves break against such structures has presented many challenges to Scientists and Engineers for the design of coastal defences. The provision of installations such as breakwaters to resist wave loading and protect coastal areas has evolved predominantly through empirical and experimental observations. This is due to the challenging understanding and quantification of wave impact energy transfer processes with air entrainment at these structures. This paper presents a numerical investigation on wave loading at porous formations including the effects of air entrapment. Porous morphologies generated from cubic packed spheres with varying characteristics representing a breakwater structure are incorporated into the numerical model at the impact interface and the effect on the pressure field is investigated as the wave breaks. We focus on analysing the impulse impact pressure as a surging flow front impacts a porous wall. Thereafter we investigate the multi-modal oscillatory wave impact pressure signals which result from a transient plunging breaker wave impinging upon a modelled porous coastal protective structure. The high frequency oscillatory pressure effects resulting from air entrapment are clearly observed in the simulations. A frequency domain analysis of the impact pressure responses is undertaken. We show that the structural morphology of the porous assembly influences the pressure response signal recorded during the impact event. The findings provide good confidence on the robustness of our numerical model particularly for investigating the air bubbles formation and their mechanics at impact with porous walls.

Nowadays, with the rapid development of vehicle industry in China, an increasing number of companies realized the importance of culture adaption, when implementing ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance System) to the vehicles in China. However, some designing issues of these systems need to be solved, taking consideration of driver's behavior and traffic situation in China. There is a lack of studies on Chinese drivers and related to HMI design of ADAS systems in the literature. There are limited reports on Chinese traffic and drivers studies, but still lack of the necessary depth. Some interaction design methodologies, including personas, focus group study, questionnaire and so on, were used in these reports. However, these studies are neither intensive nor comprehensive. Although (part of) the issues are brought up and analyzed, only general solutions are mentioned for the designing of the systems. Present paper, through literature review, indicated different areas that need to be focused on that are related to culture issues and the possible methodologies that can be applied.

Several model-based techniques have been proposed for characterizing thin layers within multi-layered materials. One problem with these methods is that the models are non-linear with respect to the parameters. Hence, iterative numerical methods must be used estimating the model parameters, i.e. for solving the inverse problem based on measurements. For material structures where the propagation times through the individual layers are shorter than the duration of the transmitted ultrasound pulse, the received waveform will consist of several overlapping echoes. For the parameter estimation to work, good initial guesses of the times of flight are required, which are difficult to obtain due to the severe overlap of the echoes. In this paper we propose a filtering scheme, that compresses the transmitted pulse into a shorter pulse, thus enabling the echoes from within the material structure to be detected. The method is evaluated using simulations on a three-layered material for varying signal-to-noise conditions.

KF-SLAM(Kalman filter-SLAM) have been used as a popular solution by researchers in many SLAM application. Nevertheless, it shortcomings of assumption for Gaussian noise limited its efficiency and demand researcher to consider better filter and algorithm to achieve a promising result of estimation. In this paper, we proposed one of its family, the H ∞ filter-based SLAM to determine its competency for SLAM problem. Unlike Kalman filter, H∞ filter able to work in an unknown statistical noise behavior and thus more robust. It rely on a guess that the noise is in bounded energy and does not require a priori knowledge about the system. Therefore, we proposed the H∞ filter as other available technique to infer the location for both robot and landmarks while simultaneously building the map. From the results of simulation, H ∞ filter produces better outcome than the Kalman filter especially in the linear case estimation. As a result, H∞ filter may provides another available estimation methods with the capability to ensure and improve estimation for the robotic mapping problem especially in SLAM. © 2009 SICE.

This paper presents a method for joint estimation of fiber and fines mass fractions (i.e. pulp consistency) in paper pulp suspension. The technique is based on a combination of optical and ultrasonic measurements. The link between measured quantities and the mass fractions is established through Partial Least-Squares Regression (PLSR). The method is evaluated with experiments on unbleached softwood pulp for a total mass fraction of fibers and fines ranging from 0.6% to 0.54%. The results show that we are able to accurately predict both the fiber and fines mass fractions using the proposed technique. We also show that the performance is increased by combining the two techniques compared to using them by themselves.

Introduction: Recently wireless sensor networks with the function distribution of memory units, communications, calculations etc. have attracted much attention, and there has been increasing research [1, 2]. In these researches, sensor nodes are connected wirelessly and some local estimates are merged into the common estimate by the wireless communication. It is well known that sensor networks are superior to a observation by a system with single sensor in a fault tolerance, load reduction of operator, collection and application of information etc. and its application to not only a sensing system but also the guidance control system via a sensor network has received attention. For example, traffic control systems, nano-medicines and disaster countermeasures. Meanwhile, each sensor node requires electric power more than a case of only sensing because of communications and calculations, but sensor nodes are generally powered and driven by batteries. Moreover it is difficult to change batteries frequently or charge by power cable because of increasing of costs. Therefore, it is important to utilize the energy efficiently to achieve the energy-saving and prolong sensor nodes life. For this requirement, the sensor scheduling, the optimization of the communication rate and communications traffic and decreasing communication distances by the multi-hop communication are discussed [4,3, 5]. Consequently, in this paper, we discuss a sensor scheduling problem selecting available sensor nodes considering the estimation error variance and communication energy in a feedback control system via a sensor network. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

This paper deals with a network configuration considering priori estimation error variance and communication energy in sensor networked feedback system. Each sensor transmits information to a fusion center via multi-hop communication network. We propose a novel network configuration algorithm that each sensor node transmits information with a same dimension. The transmitted information is merged in each sensor node and consists of measurement data with time delay. Then the priori estimate can be minimum variance estimation. The proposed algorithm achieves sub-optimal network topology with minimum energy and a desired variance. Experimental results show an effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper presents a solar energy harvesting (EH) system to power a portable compact LED lamp, which can be charged during daytime and used to light during night time. The solar lamp consists of three PV panels, an EH and power management circuit, three NiMH rechargeable batteries, and an LED. A commercial off-the-shelf chip TI BQ25504 is used to prototype the EH and power management circuit for the proposed system. Experimental results show that the proposed PVsystem can harvest solar energy both in indoor and outdoor environments. The peak net power harvested by the proposed system is about 380 mW on a sunny day, 250 mW on a partly cloudy day, and 30 mW on a cloudy day.
