The document discusses the changes in the model of individual competencies (ICB) of project managers proposed by the International Project Management Association (IPMA) that occurred after the harmonization of this standard with project management standards issued under the auspices of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). For comparison, it is proposed to use the conceptual model of the 'system landscape of competencies' of the project manager, created solely on the basis of the analysis of the content of texts of IPMA ICB standards (versions 3.0 and 4.0). A comparative analysis of these two standards is proposed for the first time on the basis of differences in the presentation of profiles of 'system landscapes' of competency models, taking into account the structure of their internal relationships. The influence of harmonization processes with ISO standards on the structure of IPMA ICB 4.0 standard is shown. A method for evaluating and comparing the importance of groups of elements of the considered competency models based on the analysis of Markov models developed for them with practical implementation using Microsoft Excel software is proposed. © 2019 IEEE.

On the database-based strategy of candidate extractant generation for de-phenol process in coking wastewater treatment

A database-based strategy of candidate generation was proposed for molecular design of new de-phenol extractants following the idea of finding new applications of existing commercial compounds. The strategy has the advantage that the environmental, safety and health risks of candidate compounds are known and controllable. In this work, the Existing Commercial Compounds(ECC) database and special combined search strategy were developed as the base for the proposed CAMD method following such idea, and molecules for phenol extraction used in coking wastewater treatment were selected from the ECC database. The candidate solvents cover the following categories: ketones, esters, ethers, alcohols, anhydrides and benzene compounds, which are consistent with the de-phenol extractants commonly used in the industry or experiment. The compounds with higher partition coefficient and selectivity than widely used methyl isobutyl ketone(MIBK) are mainly ketones. 26 obtained molecules show higher partition coefficient and selectivity than MIBK, which are suggested to be further investigated by experiment. Furthermore, analysis of these potential molecules may present the effective functional groups as the initial group set to generate new molecular structures of de-phenol extractants. The results show that the proposed method enables us to efficiently generate chemicals with benefits of less time, less economical cost, and known environmental impact as well.

We report an experimental realization of a new type of topology-controlled photonic cavities in valley photonic crystals by adopting judiciously oriented mirrors to localize the valley-polarized edge states along their propagation path. By using microwave frequency- and time-domain measurements, we directly observe the strong confinement of electromagnetic energy at the mirror surface due to the extended time delay required for the valley index flipping. Moreover, we experimentally demonstrate that both the degree of energy localization and quality factors of the topology-controlled photonic cavities are determined by the valley-flipping time which is controlled by the topology of the mirror. These results extend and complement the current design paradigm of topological photonic cavities. © 2024, CC BY.

Regret and cumulative constraint violation analysis for online convex optimization with long term constraints

This paper considers online convex optimization with long term constraints, where constraints can be violated in intermediate rounds, but need to be satisfied in the long run. The cumulative constraint violation is used as the metric to measure constraint violations, which excludes the situation that strictly feasible constraints can compensate the effects of violated constraints. A novel algorithm is first proposed and it achieves an O(Tmax{c,1-c}) bound for static regret and an O(T (1-c)/2) bound for cumulative constraint violation, where c ϵ (0, 1) is a user-defined trade-off parameter, and thus has improved performance compared with existing results. Both static regret and cumulative constraint violation bounds are reduced to O(log(T )) when the loss functions are strongly convex, which also improves existing results. In order to achieve the optimal regret with respect to any comparator sequence, another algorithm is then proposed and it achieves the optimal O( p T (1 + PT )) regret and an O(√T) cumulative constraint violation, where PT is the path-length of the comparator sequence. Mass data collection technologies are widely used today and allow very detailed capturing of virtually any objects, including the Earth’s surface, for example for monitoring changes. Increasingly, UAV photogrammetry is used not only in geodesy for this purpose, it provides significant advantages in the mapping of complex landslide-type objects compared to terrestrial surveying methods, including 3D scanning. The paper presents a test of the precision of the mapping of the surface of the stonefield landslide in the Little Cold Valley in the High Tatras made by UAV photogrammetry by comparing its results with the point cloud acquired by the Leica P40 terrestrial 3D scanner. The evaluation not only considers the accuracy of the result, but also compares the cost-effectiveness of the measurement as well as the cost of acquiring the necessary equipment. Measured terrain is very specific, rugged, it is formed by boulders of the size of meters over smaller stones to gravel and sand. The slope of the terrain is also extreme. Evaluating the cost-effectiveness and meticulousness of the measurement will stand out more than in normal situations, as the measurement took place in a national park where all equipment, devices and personal baggage need to be transported by human power. At the same time, the movement in the stone field is even more difficult. It has been found that the methods compared are practically equal in terms of precision, but drone photogrammetry is clearly better in terms of labor and economy. © 2020 Taylor & Francis Group, London.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a traditional process to achieve energy recovery from a variety of organic waste streams. However, the AD performance in terms of biogas production and process stability relies on the cooperation of the functional microbial communities and the operating parameters. The latest progress in machine learning for AD processes including optimization, parametric prediction, perturbation detection, and long-term monitoring were critically reviewed. The explainable data-driven models including black-box machine learning (ML) models and nature-inspired optimization techniques were compared, while summarizing their applications. The review also highlighted the challenges, perspectives, and opportunities for future research of applying ML for AD processes. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We present a shared industry-academic perspective on the principles and opportunities for Quality by Digital Design (QbDD) as a framework to accelerate medicines development and enable regulatory innovation for new medicines approvals. This approach exploits emerging capabilities in industrial digital technologies to achieve robust control strategies assuring product quality and patient safety whilst reducing development time/costs, improving research and development efficiency, embedding sustainability into new products and processes, and promoting supply chain resilience. Key QbDD drivers include the opportunity for new scientific understanding and advanced simulation and model-driven, automated experimental approaches. QbDD accelerates the identification and exploration of more robust design spaces. Opportunities to optimise multiple objectives emerge in route selection, manufacturability and sustainability whilst assuring product quality. Challenges to QbDD adoption include siloed data and information sources across development stages, gaps in predictive capabilities, and the current extensive reliance on empirical knowledge and judgement. These challenges can be addressed via QbDD workflows; model-driven experimental design to collect and structure findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR) data; and chemistry, manufacturing and control ontologies for shareable and reusable knowledge. Additionally, improved product, process, and performance predictive tools must be developed and exploited to provide a holistic end-to-end development approach.

In this paper, the entire focus is on fault detection and correction using extended Kalman filter (EKF) on industrially used omni bundle robot. Here, the authors considered a problem where a robot does monotonous job and repetitively traverse the same trajectory every time. Due to wear and tear or any fluctuation in input signals, the robot may not track the desired trajectory. Faults may arise at various levels in robots, for example, in actuator, encoder, and dynamical parameters. Actuator fault detection using encoder sensor will be the main focus in this research paper. The dynamics of robotic arm link is modeled using a DC motor attached with the link, and the encoder attached with the motor will provide position feedback. The fault is detected using EKF state estimation, and the fault is corrected using a PID controller feedback into the motor input torque. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The sustainable utilization of biochar produced from biomass waste could substantially promote the development of carbon neutrality and a circular economy. Due to their cost-effectiveness, multiple functionalities, tailorable porous structure, and thermal stability, biochar-based catalysts play a vital role in sustainable biorefineries and environmental protection, contributing to a positive, planet-level impact. This review provides an overview of emerging synthesis routes for multifunctional biochar-based catalysts. It discusses recent advances in biorefinery and pollutant degradation in air, soil, and water, providing deeper and more comprehensive information of the catalysts, such as physicochemical properties and surface chemistry. The catalytic performance and deactivation mechanisms under different catalytic systems were critically reviewed, providing new insights into developing efficient and practical biochar-based catalysts for large-scale use in various applications. Machine learning (ML)-based predictions and inverse design have addressed the innovation of biochar-based catalysts with high-performance applications, as ML efficiently predicts the properties and performance of biochar, interprets the underlying mechanisms and complicated relationships, and guides biochar synthesis. Finally, environmental benefit and economic feasibility assessments are proposed for science-based guidelines for industries and policymakers. With concerted effort, upgrading biomass waste into high-performance catalysts for biorefinery and environmental protection could reduce environmental pollution, increase energy safety, and achieve sustainable biomass management, all of which are beneficial for attaining several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG). © 2023 The Authors
