In this paper, first results on the analysis of self-adaptive evolution strategies (ES) with intermediate multirecombination on the elliptic model are presented. Equations describing the ES behavior on the ellipsoid will be derived using a deterministic approach and experimentally verified. A relationship between newly obtained formulae for the elliptic model and previous theoretical results will be discussed. Copyright 2010 ACM.

An ensemble modelling strategy, which is based on the genetic algorithm neural network (GA-NN) optimisation, is developed in this paper. A diversity index, defined by the dissimilarity between the current neural network (NN) and the set of existing NNs, is first introduced to facilitate the qualification of the current NN for being included in the ensemble network. A fitness-weighted assemble scheme is then proposed to form the GA-NN ensemble model. The unique advantage of this ensemble modelling scheme is its high efficiency, thanks to the full exploitation of information generated during the GA-NN optimisation. Preliminary results obtained for the prediction of the Charpy impact energy of heat-treated steel are promising, with the model performance being significantly improved as compared to previous modelling results.

On current automation systems a device failure might lead to significant down times of a plant as well as man power to replace and - more important - to setup the replacement device. Since the physical replacement can't be circumvented, the setup procedure could be automatized as much as possible. This paper shows an approach based on a new automation system designed as a service-oriented architecture (SOA). Advantages of this service-orientation for the automation environment are described in detail. The presented choreography of services yields to a flexible, dynamic and scalable system like it is well known for today's distributed, information technology systems - e.g. grid computing. This approach is applied to the self-configuration scenario as a demonstration of the benefits and chances, which could be achieved by modeling automation systems based on the SOA principle. A prototype realizes the presented service-choreography using real-world's automation components.

This paper puts forth a model of the transportation and inventory integration and optimization problem based on system and optimal theory which we take into account the antinomy relationship of transportation and inventory and the antinomy relationship of inventory and stock-out in supply chain logistics system. We consider that the resources available and the total time of inventory and transportation are *** the transportation process, transportation cost, transportation time and transportation capacity may vary between the two adjacent nodes for the reason of the transfer among various transportation modes. When the mode of the transportation is changed, we need consider the transshipment time and transshipment *** issue is a multi-transportation option network question under the normal distribution of the minimum total cost which consists of transportation cost, inventory cost, stock-out cost and time cost. In this paper, we comparatively study and specifically calculate the minimum total transportation and inventory cost in several different cases. Our paper shows that the result is not only more reasonable and effective than other models which can be seen in the appendix but also more in line with the actual situation of the supply chain logistics system. We can get our purpose that we may have a certain referential significance to reduce the total cost and raise the total profit of the supply chain logistics system.

The integrated procedure for closed-loop identification and retuning of poorly tuned oscillatory PID control loops is introduced. A process model is identified by comparing time series data of the closed-loops for two different parameter settings, without giving any external perturbation to the operating process. control parameter calculation is done based on the classical loop-shaping approach. Two case studies are performed on a simulated large scale chemical plant to discuss applicability of the proposed procedure.

A control method for small domestic power plants using renewable energy is described in this paper. This method is not only capable of optimizing the working point of the plant but also implements active power factor correction and lowers the extant harmonic distortion in the line. The novel element in the proposed complex controller structure is the upper harmonic controller that minimizes the amplitudes of the 3rd, 5th 7th, 9th, and the 11th upper harmonic component in the output voltage. The proposed controller has been investigated by simulation in Matlab environment, and as a result, substantial improvement of the output voltage and current waveform could be achieved. Robustness of the method against nonlinear loads has also been tested.

Automatic image annotation, which aims at automatically identifying and then assigning semantic keywords to the meaningful objects in a digital image, is not a very difficult task for human but has been regarded as a difficult and challenging problem to machines. In this paper, we present a hierarchical annotation scheme considering that generally human s visual identification to a scenery object is a rough-to-fine hierarchical process. First, the input image is segmented into multiple regions and each segmented region is roughly labeled with a general keyword using the multi-classification support vector machine. Since the results of rough annotation affect fine annotation directly, we construct the statistical contextual relationship to revise the improper labels and improve the accuracy of rough annotation. To obtain reasonable fine annotation for those roughly classified regions, we propose an active semi-supervised expectation-maximization algorithm, which can not only find the representative pattern of each fine class but also classify the roughly labeled regions into corresponded fine classes. Finally, the contextual relationship is applied again to revise the improper fine labels. To illustrate the effectiveness of the presented approaches, a prototype image annotation system is developed, the preliminary results of which showed that the hierarchical annotation scheme is effective.

A simple dynamic model of an industrial size synchronous generator operating in a nuclear power plant is developed in this paper based on first engineering principles. The constructed state-space model consists of a nonlinear state equation and a bi-linear output equation. It has been shown that the model is locally asymptotically stable with parameters obtained from the literature for a similar generator. The effect of load disturbances on the partially controlled generator has been analyzed by simulation using a traditional PI controller. It has been found that the controlled system is stable and can follow the set-point changes in the effective power well. The disturbance rejection of the controller is also satisfactory.
