Optimizing the monthly scheduling of crudes in a terminal-refinery system

This paper focuses on solving the optimization of crude oil operations scheduling carried out in a real system composed of a refinery and a marine terminal, over a monthly horizon. In the present article, we introduce a large-scale mixed-integer non-linear programming (MINLP) model that faithfully represents the operation and characteristics of the system. Considering the model's complexity and its non-linear and non-convex nature, the challenge lies in solving the model in a time frame that meets the user's needs. To tackle this problem, we develop a temporal decomposition method in conjunction with a linear approximation.

The exponential growth of academic publications has made scholarly research recommender systems indispensable tools for researchers. These systems rely on diverse evaluation metrics to assess their effectiveness and relevance. This paper provides a comprehensive review and analysis of these metrics, categorizing them into accuracy, ranking, diversity, user-centric, coverage, temporal, and computational metrics. By employing a mixed-methods approach, combining systematic literature review and empirical analysis, we identify the prevalence and application of these metrics across various scholarly domains such as literature, conferences, and reviewers. Our findings highlight the widespread use of traditional metrics like precision, recall, and Fl-score, while emphasizing the growing importance of novel metrics such as unexpectedness and serendipity, especially in literature and conference recommendations. We also underscore the domain-specific nature of metric selection, with user-centric evaluations more prominent in literature recommendations, and ranking-focused metrics dominant in conference and reviewer recommendations. Furthermore, the study reveals a significant gap in the use of temporal and computational metrics, suggesting key areas for future research. This review offers valuable insights for researchers and practitioners, guiding them in metric selection and highlighting potential directions for enhancing the effectiveness, adaptability, and user satisfaction of scholarly recommender systems.

Hydrogen fuel for aviation is a new idea. Its successful implementation requires new research and new technologies. One of them is the verification of the operation of the devices and their survivability in a hydrogen flame. The main topic of the article is the development of the hydrogen research and testing laboratory. Testing the flammability of hydrogen-containing systems is a challenge due to the very high explosiveness. The need to ensure the safety of both personnel and buildings means that the preparation of a stand for testing the flammability of aircraft systems should be treated differently from before. The article presents the design of a stand for fire resistance tests. Tests of fire resistance of various elements of aircraft systems, which in the event of an accident may be within the range of the hydrogen flame and elements of the hydrogen installation itself, are the main applications of the presented laboratory stand. © 2024 IEEE.

Meniscus injury is one of the most common sports injuries within the knee joint,which is also a crucial pathogenic factor for osteoarthritis(OA).The current meniscus substitution products are far from able to restore meniscal biofunctions due to the inability to reconstruct the gradient heterogeneity of natural meniscus from biological and biomechanical ***,inspired by the topology self-induced effect and native meniscus microstructure,we present an innovative tissue-engineered meniscus(TEM)with a unique gradient-sized diamond-pored microstructure(GSDP-TEM)through dual-stage temperature control 3D-printing system based on the mechanical/biocompatibility compatible high M_(w) poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL).Biologically,the unique gradient microtopology allows the seeded mesenchymal stem cells with spatially heterogeneous differentiation,triggering gradient transition of the extracellular matrix(ECM)from the inside ***,GSDP-TEM presents excellent circumferential tensile modulus and load transmission ability similar to the natural *** implantation in rabbit knee,GSDP-TEM induces the regeneration of biomimetic heterogeneous neomeniscus and efficiently alleviates joint *** study provides an innovative strategy for functional meniscus *** self-induced cell differentiation and biomechanical property also provides a simple and effective solution for other complex heterogeneous structure reconstructions in the human body and possesses high clinical translational potential.

Recently, the platform economy allows enterprises to collaborate with business partners and provide additional channels for various parties. E-commerce platforms have become integral channels for connecting suppliers with consumers. In the platform economy, agency selling and reselling are two predominant sales models that often coexist for the same product types, resulting in a competitive relationship. This study analyzes transaction data for 30,000 Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) provided by the Chinese e-commerce platforms over one month. We employ three models to compare the sales quantity and profits of manufacturers and online platforms and to identify the most efficient mode for stakeholders based on the model establishment and empirical evidence. Our findings suggest that apart from the existing channel to provide products to customers, manufacturers enter the platform which will increase the profit of platform operators. On the other hand, platform operators may also affect the profit of the manufacturers. © 2023 IEEE.

We consider the problems of system invertibility and input reconstruction for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems using only measured data. The two problems are connected in the sense that input reconstruction is possible provided that the system is left invertible. To verify the latter property without model knowledge, we leverage behavioral systems theory and develop two data-driven algorithms: one based on input/state/output data and the other based only on input/output data. We then consider the problem of input reconstruction for both noise-free and noisy data settings. In the case of noisy data, a statistical approach is leveraged to formulate the problem as a maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) problem. The proposed approaches are finally illustrated with numerical examples that show: exact input reconstruction in the noise-free setting; and the better performance of the MLE-based approach compared to the standard least-norm solution.

Sandwich constructions with metallic honeycomb cores are used in numerous mechanical applications, especially in aerospace, where high explicit modulus or solidity to weight ratios are needed. Square honeycomb sandwich panels are easier to make than hexagonal ones. There is also evidence that square honeycomb sandwich panels have a greater structural integrity-to-weight ratio. Scholarly research on square honeycomb sandwich boards has focused on predicting the structure's response to shear, twisting, in-plane and out- of-plane strain, and dynamic shots. This study compares experimental models of square metallic honeycomb collapse under a three-point twist. Disillusioned curiosity can be shown through face-clasping, face-yielding, center- clasping, and center-yielding. Scientists compare their hypotheses to traditional views that suggest a clash between the minute and fact sheets, the shear and the centre. These tools measure face sheet shear stress and rotating minute centre pressure. The section that deviates from the central region becomes more important as it thickens. Limited component research evaluates explanatory models. The major goals of post-processing limited component models are to understand neighbourhood yielding and locking inside the structure and to examine how adjacent disappointment affects honeycomb power migration. Parametric analysis using multiple honeycomb structures was used to test disappointment ideas. We aim to create separate explanatory frameworks that can anticipate discontentment across stacking levels, geometries, and relative densities. Diagnostic models are combined with key improvement ideas to help architects choose materials and geometry under implementation constraints.

This work has performed a numerical simulation of the temperature field during microwave heating of polyolefin-absorber mixture by means of a combined electric and thermal model.A finite difference time domain was used to model the electric field distribution within the cavity,while the finite difference method was used to calculate the temperature field distribution in different *** study has focused only on the process from room temperature to 500 K for reducing heating time and energy *** temperature range is a process with high energy consumption,difficult to control and great influence on the follow-up *** dependence of dielectric properties and thermal properties of heated materials are fully considered and simulated through an iterative *** simulation results show that input power,the size and location of the heated materials,the position of the waveguide,and the kinds of microwave absorbers are important factors affecting the heating *** a result,the uniform temperature distribution(the temperature difference Tdb10 K)can be achieved by choosing the appropriate input power(500–2000 W),the appropriate proportion of microwave absorber(the volume ratio of Si C to HDPE is 30:70),and combining with the moving and rotating of the heated *** uniform temperature field obtained without mechanical stirring is very important for reducing energy consumption and subsequent reactions.

Categorification of Negative Information using Enrichment

In many engineering applications it is useful to reason about "negative information". For example, in planning problems, providing an optimal solution is the same as giving a feasible solution (the "positive" information) together with a proof of the fact that there cannot be feasible solutions better than the one given (the "negative" information). We model negative information by introducing the concept of "norphisms", as opposed to the positive information of morphisms. A "nategory" is a category that has "nom"-sets in addition to hom-sets, and specifies the interaction between norphisms and morphisms. In particular, we have composition rules of the form morphism + norphism → norphism. Norphisms do not compose by themselves;rather, they use morphisms as catalysts. After providing several applied examples, we connect nategories to enriched categtory theory. Specifically, we prove that categories enriched in de Paiva’s dialectica categories GC, in the case C = Set and equipped with a modified monoidal product, define nategories which satisfy additional regularity properties. This formalizes negative information categorically in a way that makes negative and positive morphisms equal citizens. © 2022, CC BY.

Driving Blood Glucose Concentration (BGC) from hyperglycemia to euglycemia as quickly as possible while preventing hypoglycemia has been a big challenge for Type-1 Diabetes (T1D) for decades. This study has contributed to handle this problem. In this study, a control algorithm is established that ensures the full avoidance of both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. The solution consists of a positive control law that finds the necessary hyperglycemia correction bolus in real-time to safely drive glycemia to the normal range. The action of this controller depends mainly on the amount of the pre-estimated meal. Where the estimated meal forms part of the control law. The other part is a state feedback control. The positive controller steered BGC to ensure avoiding both hyper. and hypoglycemia. This control is examined in Magdalene T1D simulator patients during a fasting-night scenario as well as a postprandial scenario. The control algorithm was tested in silico on 5 different T1DM patients in postprandial of three unknown's meal scenarios. The in silico results show that glycemia remained on average for the five T1DM patients. The percentage of glycemia in a normal range about (100 %) percent over the simulation time. No hypoglycemia where registered and time spent in hyperglycemia over the 24-hour simulation for the 5 patients was very limited. The controller showed high performance avoiding both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. © 2021 IEEE.
