In this paper, we introduce a novel windowing Booth (wBooth) recoding algorithm aimed at minimizing the average number of additions in the single/multiple constant multiplication (S/MCM) problem. Utilizing an exact average Hamming-weight formula of wBooth, we derive precise analytical expressions for the average number of additions, the maximum number of additions, and the maximum adder-depth for S/MCM. Our findings reveal that the wBooth recoding method results in an average reduction of 1 1. 2 6 % and 1 2. 5 4 % in additions for a 32 -bit constant compared to our previously published algorithms RADIX-2w SCM and RADIX-2w MCM, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose an automatic system based on machine learning algorithms to detect the abnormalities in radiotherapy service. However, challenges are posed regarding quality of service in radiotherapy. Thus, the presented system increases the quality of the control in service. Mainly, the control platform is composed of a set of computers connected with the network for the server. The stored data include checklist of the machines, the temperature, the humidity and the pressure, and operators and management of patients. The main contribution in this field is the use of the classification techniques for avoiding fatal mistakes during the treatment. An encouraging result is obtained by deep network constructed using autoencoders. © 2021 IEEE.

Multiple Constant Multiplication (MCM) is an operation that multiplies a set of fixed-point constants with the same fixed-point variable. MCM is a fundamental operation in the design of linear time invariant (LTI) systems, such as in DSP transforms and digital controllers. It has been proved in published works that RADIX-2r recoding and Hosangadi's heuristic achieve an important compression factor of the number of additions in the case of multiplierless implementation of the MCM problem. This has a positive impact on design parameters, like area occupation, timing performance, and power consumption. In this paper, RADIX-2r recoding is confronted to Hosangadi's heuristic through a number of benchmark FIR filters of growing complexity. Results show a clear superiority in adder-cost of RADIX-2r over Hosangadi's heuristic. Furthermore, RADIX-2r is much easier to be implemented and requires much less running time than Hosangadi's heuristic. © 2020 IEEE.

In previous work, a fully predictable sub-linear runtime heuristic for the multiplication by a constant based on Radix-2 r arithmetic using a fixed radix was developed, called RADIX-2 r . In this paper, we introduce a new constant multiplication algorithm based also on Radix-2 r arithmetic but considering a variable radix. The new version is named RADIX-2 r -VAR. Using a variable radix allows to optimize the average number of additions in the constant multiplication since a larger search space is explored. The new RADIX-2 r -VAR recoding requires an average of 4.4% and 2.2% less additions than RADIX-2 r for 24 and 32 bits, respectively. The RADIX-2 r -VAR algorithm is combined with RADIX-2 r for more improvements of the average number of additions. An overall saving of 6.7% and 5.5% is obtained over RADIX-2 r for 24 and 32 bits, respectively.

In a previous work, a fully predictable and a sub-linear-runtime heuristic for the multiplication by a constant based on the radix-2~r arithmetic was developed. It is called RADLX-2~r. In this paper we focalize on the optimization of the average number of additions (Avg) to make RADIX-2~r more competitive with the existing heuristics. In this work, the obtained results are compared only to the standard Canonic Signed Digit (CSD) representation.

Finite impulse response (FIR) filtering is an ubiquitous operation in digital signal processing systems. It is generally implemented in full-custom style due to the high-speed and low-power design requirements. The hardware design of a FIR filter is mainly dominated by the multiplier block, which is generally implemented as a network of adders, subtractors and shifters for more efficiency in speed and power. In a recent work, a fully predictable and sublinear runtime heuristic for the multiplication by a constant has been developed. It is called RADIX-2 r . In this paper, RADIX-2 r is applied to the FIR filter design optimization. In comparison to the existing heuristics, RADIX-2 r exhibits the shortest adder-depth, leading therefore to the best results in speed and power.

This paper addresses the problem of optimal hardware-realization of finite-word-length (FWL) linear controllers dedicated to MEMS applications. The biggest challenge is to ensure satisfactory control performances with a minimal hardware. To come up, two distinct but complementary optimizations can be undertaken: in control theory and in binary arithmetic. Only the latter is involved in this work. Because MEMS applications are targeted, the binary arithmetic must be fast enough to cope with the rapid dynamic of MEMS; power-efficient for an embedded control; highly scalable for an easy adjustment of the control performances; and easily predictable to provide a precise idea on the required logic resources before the implementation. The exploration of a number of binary arithmetics showed that radix-2 r is the best candidate that fits the aforementioned requirements. It has been fully exploited to designing efficient multiplier cores, which are the real engine of the linear systems. The radix-2 r arithmetic was applied to the hardware integration of two FWL structures: a linear time variant PID controller and a linear time invariant LQG controller with Kaiman filtering. Both controllers showed a clear superiority over their existing counterparts, or in comparison to their initial non-optimized forms.
