Crystallization,while a common process in nature,remains one of the most mysterious *** its physical mechanisms is essential for obtaining high-quality ***,crystals grown by thermal evaporation or sublimation nucleate the substrate facing the evaporation ***,a novel vapor micro-turbulence mass transport mechanism in the growth process of ultrathin BiOCl single crystals has been *** this mechanism,the precursor vapor bypasses the solid substrate,forming micro-turbulent vaporizing flows to nucleate on the surface of the substrate facing away from the evaporation *** nucleation kinetics,fast shear flows are known to cause secondary nucleation,increasing nucleation quantity while decreasing the final size of the ***,the nucleation and growth process of BiOCl crystals are controlled by adjusting the micro-turbulence intensity to reduce shear flow energy and dilate phase distribution,resulting in BiOCl crystals with uniform distribution and regular *** structural and morphological characterization confirms the high crystallization quality of the obtained crystals,and the performance of the constructed solar-blind photodetectors is comparable to that of similar *** findings contribute to a deeper understanding of vapor mass transport and crystal growth techniques and may be useful for applications related to metal oxide crystals.

Death and grief are going digital. Start-up companies are working on avatars that people feed with personal information while alive so that relatives can communicate with this artificial self after death. This is supposed to make it easier to say goodbye. Considering these digital innovations, the IS community should be the leading discipline for handling grief. However, IS scholars attribute grief to other disciplines, such as psychology. Like any crisis, also grief cannot be merited to one single discipline. We conduct a literature review and synthesis alongside the ‘BAO framework’ [1]. Findings suggest that IS research has so far not grasped the consequences of grief on either individual or organizational and societal levels. To spark future research, we propose 9 clear-cut IS research questions. The provided comprehensive understanding of IS intersecting grief is crucial for different (also practical) stakeholders to leverage the potential of IS in coping with grief. © 2022 17th International Conference on Wirtschaftsinformatik, WI 2022. Minimizing Interference in Robotic Rehabilitation Via Asymmetric Stiffness Force Fields

This paper introduces a novel approach for guiding human arm movement in the context of robotic rehabilitation. We propose upper-limb movement guidance using a force field based on an asymmetric stiffness matrix. By introducing asymmetry in stiffness design, the proposed force field can deflect arm movement toward the target direction of a reaching movement while minimizing impeding effects. We hypothesize that this method can guide a human in the desired direction without interfering with their voluntary movement. To evaluate the performance of the human arm guidance technique, we conducted upper-limb reaching experiments using a 2-degree-of-freedom (DoF) robot arm with ten healthy volunteers. The experimental results revealed that the proposed approach demonstrated a similar reduction in movement error compared to the conventional stiffness approach. Moreover, participants exhibited higher movement activeness, and robotic interference with human movement was lower. The proposed approach may improve movement guidance based on stiffness control by enabling the robot to guide without inhibiting voluntary movement. © 2020 IEEE.

AI technologies have made significant advancements across various sectors, especially healthcare. Although AI algorithms in healthcare showcase remarkable predictive capabilities, apprehensions have emerged owing to errors, biases, and a lack of transparency. These concerns have led to a decline in trust among clinicians and patients, while also posing the risk of further accentuating pre-existing biases against marginalized groups and exacerbating inequities. This paper presents a scenario-based preferences risk register11Denotes a methodically arranged document or database detailing potential risks linked to particular scenarios or situations. framework for identifying and accounting AI algorithm biases in diagnosing diseases. The framework is demonstrated with a realistic case study on cardiac sarcoidosis. The framework identifies success criteria, initiatives, emergent conditions and the most and least disruptive scenarios. The success criteria align with the National Institute of Standards and Technology AI Risk Management Framework (NIST AI RMF) trustworthy AI characteristics, and the scenarios are based on various statistical/computational bias that causes algorithmic bias. The framework provides valuable guidance for leveraging AI in healthcare, enhancing objective designs, and mitigating risks by adopting a figure of merit to score the initiatives and measuring the disruptive order. By prioritizing transparency, trustworthy AI, and identifying the most and least disruptive scenarios/biases, the framework promotes responsible and effective use of AI technologies in healthcare. © 2023 IEEE.

Data or Business First?—Manufacturers’ Transformation Toward Data-driven Business Models

Driven by digital technologies, manufacturers aim to tap into data-driven business models, in which value is generated from data as a complement to physical products. However, this transformation can be complex, as different archetypes of data-driven business models require substantially different business and technical capabilities. While there are manifold contributions to research on technical capability development, an integrated and aligned perspective on both business and technology capabilities for distinct data-driven business model archetypes is needed. This perspective promises to enhance research’s understanding of this transformation and offers guidance for practitioners. As maturity models have proven to be valuable tools in capability development, we follow a design science approach to develop a maturity model for the transformation toward archetypal data-driven business models. To provide an integrated perspective on business and technology capabilities, the maturity model leverages a layered enterprise architecture model. By applying and evaluating in use at two manufacturers, we find two different transformation approaches, namely ‘data first’ and ‘business first’. The resulting insights highlight the model’s integrative perspective’s value for research to improve the understanding of this transformation. For practitioners, the maturity model allows a status quo assessment and derives fields of action to develop the capabilities required for the aspired data-driven business model. © 2023, The Author(s).

Surveillance solutions for Advanced and Urban Air Mobility frameworks are a key factor to enable safe operations of highly automated aircraft in the civil airspace. To design solutions suitable for all types of aircraft, non-cooperative sensors can be used, though many challenges arise when the small dimensions of the vehicles and their proximity to the ground during low-altitude missions are considered. A distributed sensing concept can be efficiently applied to address these challenges by exploiting multiple sensors within a surveillance network. This paper proposes a strategy to fuse the information collected by three ground-fixed cameras within a network of multiple distributed sensors and is tested during experimental flight tests. The solution exploits standalone tracking estimates of each camera within a fusion center that performs triangulation and three-dimensional tracking. This approach is tested in a scenario involving two small UAVs flying at low altitude. The paper deals with the challenges of associating the two objects from independent and unrelated tracks to achieve robust triangulation, which produces meter-level mean errors with respect to GNSS-based ground truth. © 2024 IEEE.

Receptor-based air terminations have been widely implemented in lightning protection of megawatt-class carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) wind turbine's rotor blades;it offers an attractive cost-complexity relation in rotor blade manufacturing. This publication explores the transient response of a new developed multi-receptor concept during high voltage testing according to the norm IEC 61400-24 Ed. 2.0 (2019). An acceptable compromise between insulation materials (blade shell, glue, sandwich material, etc.), and conductive and semi-conductive materials is required. Expected dielectric breakdown properties and receptor spacing is required to be properly harmonized to achieve satisfactory results during testing and the entire blade's duty cycle. The tests were conducted on a 24m length rotor blade tip at a prestigious research lab with full-scale testing capability. © 2023 IEEE.

To address the optimization problem of communication topology for persistent formation in the case of communication faults such as link interruption,transmitter failure,and receiver failure a two-stage model including fast reconstruction of communication topology and re-optimization of communication topology is ***,a fast reconstruction algorithm of communication topology for persistent formation(FRA-CT-PF),based on optimally rigid graph,arc addition operation,and path reversal operation,is proposed,which can quickly generate a feasible reconstructed communication topology after communication faults,thus ensuring the safety of the agents and maintaining the formation shape of persistent ***,a re-optimization algorithm of communication topology for persistent formation(ROA-CTPF),based on agent position exchange,is proposed,which can further obtain a reoptimized communication topology to minimize the formation communication cost while still maintaining the formation shape of persistent *** time complexities of these two algorithms are also ***,the effectiveness of the above algorithms is verified by numerical *** with existing algorithms,FRA-CT-PF can always obtain feasible reconstructed communication topology in much less time under all communication fault scenarios,and ROA-CT-PF can obtain a reoptimized communication topology to further reduce the formation communication cost in a shorter time.

With urban problems intensifying, Smart City solutions are recognized by researchers and practitioners as one of the most promising solutions to make urban areas economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable. While many elements of Smart City solutions have been explored, existing works either treat Smart City solutions as technical black boxes or focus exclusively on Smart City solutions’ technical or nontechnical characteristics. Therefore, to conceptualize the unique characteristics of Smart City solutions currently available, we developed a multi-layer taxonomy based on Smart City solution literature and a sample of 106 Smart City solutions. Moreover, we identified three clusters, each covering a typical combination of characteristics of Smart City solutions. We evaluated our findings by applying the Q-sort method.
