A nano-scale design of a multiply-accumulate unit for digital signal processing based on quantum computing

Digital signal processing (DSP) is used in computer processing to conduct different signal-processing tasks. The DSPs are used in the series numbers representing a continuous variable in a domain such as time, area, or frequency. The multiply-accumulate (MAC) unit is crucial in various DSP applications, including convolution, discrete cosine transform (DCT), Fourier Transform, etc. Thus, all DSPs contain a critical MAC unit in signal processing. The MAC unit conducts multiplication and accumulation operations for continuous and complicated DSP application processes. On the other hand, in the MAC structure, the stability of the circuit and the occupied area pose some significant challenges. However, high-performance quantum technology can easily overcome all the previous shortcomings. Hence, this paper suggests an efficient MAC for DSP applications using a Vedic multiplier, half adder, and accumulator based on quantum technology. All the proposed structures have used a single-layer layout without rotated cells. The suggested architecture is designed and validated based on the QCADesigner 2.0.3 tool. The findings revealed that all the developed circuits have a simple architecture with fewer quantum cells, optimal area, and low latency. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

With increasingly challenging applications for quadrotors, higher requirements are emerging for tracking accuracy and safety. While high accuracy is a prerequisite for complex tasks, safety is ensured through tolerance to actuator faults and resistance to external disturbances. In this article, adaptive robust control (ARC) integrated with Gaussian processes (GPs), i.e., ARC-GP, is proposed to achieve enhanced accuracy, fault tolerance, and anti-disturbance. These three requirements are interrelated and affected by uncertainties. The primary idea of this article is to categorize uncertainties into parametric and nonparametric types, which are then addressed through parameter adaptation and GP, respectively. First, a detailed dynamic model is established, including actuator models that reflect different types of faults corresponding to changes in different physical parameters. Then, parameter adaptation is designed, with direct and indirect methods adopted for different parameters. In particular, the actuator parameters are effectively estimated to achieve targeted fault compensation. Regarding GP for nonparametric uncertainties, its model parameters are also updated via parameter adaptation. The GP thereby also learns parameter estimation errors along with external disturbances. Accordingly, ARC controllers are designed, for which robust feedback terms are constructed to further mitigate uncertainties on the basis of the covariances predicted by GP. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed ARC-GP can actively tolerate various types of actuator faults and better resist wind disturbances. © 2013 IEEE.

Solving time-varying linear equations is a com-mon challenge encountered in engineering and science. The development of neural dynamic systems has led to the creation of various feedback neural nets that effectively solve continuous time-varying linear equations. In this context, reciprocal Zhang neural net (RZNN) was developed, which is focused by this work, providing an explicit inverse-free continuous model for solving time-varying linear equations. However, the continuous model often struggle with noise interference, e.g., Gaussian noise, during the solving process. This paper enhances RZNN model with an integral reinforcement term to improve robustness of the explicit continuous models with noisy conditions. Furthermore, we optimize the RZNN solving process, making it easier for implementation in circuit systems and numerical simulations. © 2024 IEEE.

This work presents an approach for parameter estimation of nonlinear systems by means of robust maximum entropy offline reinforcement learning (RL). The identification of parameter variant systems is a challenging problem in industrial applications. We address the parameter estimation on disturbed measurements with an actor-critic RL agent that is extended by a Lyapunov neural network. Accordingly, a robust soft actor-critic algorithm (RSAC) is applied to the parametrization problem. The policy is learned on test trajectories and can be applied to identify nonlinear system parameter maps for comparable system dynamics across an operating range. In a simulative study, the performance of the proposed concept is shown for a permanent magnet synchronous machine model in the d/q-frame formulation with current dependent and nonlinear flux linkages. The trained RL agent is evaluated on a different nonlinear machine parameter set under noisy measurements. The results indicate applicability to real-world tasks such as system parameter tracking. © 2022 IEEE.

Vibration characteristics of bridges, such as damping ratio and natural frequency, are important parameters for calculating multi-point seismic loads to a bridge-underground system in the seismic design. However, the vibration characteristics have not been verified sufficiently on the basis of actual vibration measurements. The specifications for highway bridges specify the damping characteristics of each structural member of a bridge. Basically, these values are determined based on vibration tests and does not directly reflect the vibration characteristics based on the seismic observation records. Therefore, it is necessary to verify the bridge damping characteristics based on the seismic observation records. However, measurement data of monitoring the overall dynamic behavior of an actual bridge-underground system are limited, and the various vibration characteristics have not been elucidated. To this end, we have been conducting multi-point strong motion monitoring on highway bridges and we propose a system for observing the behavior of the entire bridge-underground system. The proposed observation system has sensors installed at about 50 points for a highway bridge. We show a typical case study in which subspace model identification method is employed to calculate the frequency of a targeted bridge-underground system based on observation records. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Self-sovereign identity represents a novel phenomenon aiming to innovate how entities interact with, manage, and prove identity-related information. As with any emerging phenomenon, user acceptance represents a major challenge for the adoption of Self-sovereign identity. Since previous initiatives for digital identity management solutions have not been successfully adopted while at the same time their benefits are largely driven by network effects, user acceptance research is of particular importance for Self-sovereign identity. Therefore, we investigate the user acceptance of Self-sovereign identity by conducting a qualitative interview study. We contribute novel variables to existing theory and offer guidelines for building Self-sovereign identity systems. © 2023 IEEE Computer Society. All rights reserved.

Backscatter communication and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) represent emerging paradigms in wireless communication, offering promising solutions to boost spectral and energy efficiency for energy-constrained devices in 6G networks. This work introduces a tailored symbiotic radio system designed for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, proposing an innovative framework that integrates backscatter-based IoT devices into power-domain NOMA networks. In this system, the primary base station employs NOMA principles to serve both far and near users simultaneously, while IoT devices equipped with backscattering technology transmit their data over the primary signal. The IoT transmitter not only serves the IoT receiver but also enhances the performance of the far user. The paper thoroughly examines outage probabilities for both NOMA and IoT networks. It delves explicitly into the outage probabilities of IoT receivers, considering both perfect and imperfect direct link interference cancellation. The results demonstrate significant performance improvements over traditional orthogonal multiple-access methods. Furthermore, Monte Carlo simulations are employed to validate the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. © 2024 IEEE.

Nowadays, we usually compress images before uploading them to social media. However, images on social media can easily be copied, so embedding secret messages in compressed images has become increasingly popular. There are many compression methods, such as Huffman, VQ, ZIP, AMBTC, RAR, JPEG, etc. In this article, we propose an improved data hiding in VQ compression method to achieve better capacity and high quality. Experimental results show that our data-hiding approach is practical. ©2024 IEEE.

Patients with hand paralysis have motor and sensory dysfunction in their hands. They can neither flex/extend their fingers nor feel gripping force or finger posture. To allow patients with hand paralysis to perform gripping motions, it is necessary to assist finger motion and provide sensory information about the gripping force and posture at the residual sensory area. We previously developed a wearable finger-motion assist system that assists finger motion and measures the gripping force necessary to present sensory information. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose and develop a wearable system that provides multiple types of sensory information based on gripping force and finger posture estimated by finger-motion assist system, and to confirm the basic performance of the system through experiments. We developed a band-type sensory feedback system that tightens the forearm in response to gripping force using tendon-driven wires. A vibrator is installed in it, and the intensity of vibration changes in response to finger posture. As basic experiments, identification of gripping force and finger posture using band squeezing and vibration was tested. The results showed the overall identification rate for the combination of gripping force and finger posture that were both correct was 75.6%. The identification rates for gripping force and finger posture when stimulations were presented simultaneously were 93.3 % and 80.9 %, respectively. In conclusion, we confirmed the feasibility of this system that presents multiple types of sensory information. © 2023 IEEE.
