CONTEXT: Software defect prediction (SDP) is an active research topic to support software quality assurance (SQA) activities. It was observed that unsupervised prediction models were often competitive with supervised ones at release-level and change-level defect prediction. Fine-grained just-in-time defect prediction focuses on defective files in a change, rather than the whole change. A recent study showed that the fine-grained just-in-time defect prediction was cost-effective in terms of effort-aware performance measures. Those studies did not explore the effectiveness of supervised and unsupervised models at that finer level in terms of effort-aware performance measures. OBJECTIVE: To examine the performance of supervised and unsupervised prediction models in the context of fine-grained defect prediction in terms of effort-aware performance measures. METHOD: Experiments with a time-sensitive approach were conducted to evaluate the predictive performance of supervised and unsupervised methods proposed in past studies. Datasets from OSS projects with manually validated defect links were employed from a past study. RESULTS: The use of manually validated links led to low-performance results. No clear difference among supervised and unsupervised methods was found while CBS+, a supervised method, was the best method in terms of F-measure. Even CBS+ did not achieve reasonable performance. A non-linear learning algorithm did not help the performance improvement. CONCLUSION: No clear preference among unsupervised and supervised methods. CBS+ was the best method on average. The predictive performance was still a challenge. © 2022 IEEE.

In the modern landscape of Natural Language Processing (NLP), intelligent chatbots like ChatGPT 3.5 and Google's Bard have shown remarkable competence in generic question-answering (QA) tasks. However, their performance falters when navigating domain-specific QA, particularly in the Arabic language, which is celebrated for its complex morphology and syntax. This paper presents a comprehensive approach to address these issues. The aim of this research is to build a chatbot tailored for a university community. We first create an extensive Arabic Q&A dataset by extracting data from academic documents, employing state-of-the-art Optical Character Recognition (OCR) tools. Then, we evaluate multiple text similarity measures like Pooled FastText Word embedding, BM25 ranking functions, and various semantic sentence embedding models. A thorough performance assessment reveals that the domain-specific model excels at both sentence-level similarity and context-relevance tasks. The developed web application chatbot, leveraging LangChain library and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) methods, outperforms existing chatbots in domain-specific, Arabic language QA scenarios. © 2023 ACM.

In the past several decades,photonic integrated circuits(PICs)have been investigated using a variety of different waveguide materials and each excels in specific key metrics,such as efficient light emission,low propagation loss,high electro-optic efficiency,and potential for volume *** sustained research,each platform shows inherit shortcomings that as a result stimulate studies in hybrid and heterogeneous integration technologies to create more powerful cross-platform *** is to combine the best properties of each platform;however,it requires dedicated development of special designs and additional fabrication processes for each different combination of material *** this work,we present a novel hybrid integration scheme that leverages a 3D-nanoprinted interposer to realize a photonic chiplet interconnection *** method represents a generic solution that can readily couple between chips of any material system,with each fabricated on its own technology platform,and more importantly,with no change in the established process flow for the individual chips.A fast-printing process with sub-micron accuracy is developed to form the chip-coupling frame and fiber-guiding funnel,achieving a mode-field-dimension(MFD)conversion ratio of up to 5:2(from a SMF28 fiber to 4μm×4μm mode in polymer waveguide),which,to the best of our knowledge,represents the largest mode size conversion using non-waveguided 3D nanoprinted ***,we demonstrate such a photonic chiplet interconnection system between silicon and InP chips with a 2.5 dB die-to-die coupling loss,across a 140 nm wavelength range between 1480 nm to 1620 *** hybrid integration plan can bridge different waveguide materials,supporting a much more comprehensive cross-platform integration.

Accurately and promptly identifying harmful gases in the environment can effectively prevent many accidents. Most existing pattern recognition methods are focused on addressing gas classification problems in static scenarios, but the real world is a dynamic and changing environment. Therefore, researching gas classification in continuous learning scenarios will better meet the needs of suddenly emerging gas classification tasks in real-world environments. To address this issue, an incremental learning model was introduced into gas classification, and an improved deep convolutional network was proposed for gas image feature extraction. The proposed model and other baseline methods experimented on an open-source gas dataset. The proposed model reduces knowledge loss due to catastrophic forgetting and effectively classifies the 10 gas samples in the dataset in continuous learning scenarios compared to non-incremental methods. It outperforms other baseline incremental methods by optimizing the network's shortcut connections, making the feature extraction network easier to train and improving gas classification performance. In dynamic learning scenarios, the proposed model achieved a classification accuracy of 86.30% for 10 gas samples. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively mitigates catastrophic forgetting interference and completes gas classification tasks in continuous learning scenarios. © 2024 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

This letter presents the design of a millimeter-wave bandpass microstrip filter for 5G, using a thin-film integrated passive device (IPD) process, in accordance with the principles of microwave theory and technique. The proposed filter features a double-layer microstrip structure, which enables coverage of the 5G n257 frequency band. By incorporating metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors through the overlap of the upper and lower metal layers, the filter size is effectively reduced. Hybrid coupling between two resonators is introduced to generate two transmission zeros, resulting in a second-order bandpass filter. The proposed microstrip millimeter-wave fil ter achieves miniaturization while ensuring excellent performance. Moreover, the center frequency and bandwidth of the passband can be flexibly designed by adjusting the overlap area between the upper and lower layers and the coupling line. In this study, a 5G millimeter-wave bandpass filter is designed with a center frequency of 28 GHz, a 3 dB bandwidth of 10.7%, and an insertion loss of 2.11, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2023 IEEE.

Compounded plane wave imaging (CPWI) allows high-frame-rate measurement benefiting real-time brain imaging. The quality of transcranial brain imaging remains to be improved with the presence of skulls because of phase aberration. This study introduced methods of calculating the transmitting time-delays, and their accuracy was compared with numerical simulation using a transcranial model. Experiments were carried out on a 3D-printed skull phantom. High-quality intracranial images could be achieved using the right transmitting and receiving time-delays. This study suggested that the proposed methods might have the potential for real-time and non-invasive transcranial aberration-corrected imaging. © 2023 IEEE.

Access to building data is crucial for creating portable applications and improving building operation and energy efficiency. Ensuring data transmutability is essential for facilitating research and overcoming the diverse data representation, management, and collection methods across various building management systems (BMSs). Different BMSs use multiple interfaces for data exchange. Some BMSs provide Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for data exchanges, while others have gateways connecting to cloud services for application subscription and data access. This study introduces a five-layered architecture that describes how client applications, researchers, and other interested stakeholders can exchange data with different BMSs. Our objective is to help researchers and practitioners understand the various ways of accessing transmutable (capable of being transformed into a compatible format) data from BMSs, regardless of the building management system a building uses. Through transmutable access to building systems' data, we aim to enable transferable energy-efficient-related applications for buildings. We evaluate our work with a building model of the Varennes Library in Varennes, QC, Canada. The building model includes information about the building, floors, rooms, electric meter and historical time series data of the meter, weather station and its historical time series data. The model also has carbon dioxide concentration sensors, temperature sensors, humidity sensors, and historical time series data of the sensors. We include two test client programs to show how they access the transmutable data of the building through a model. We conclude that the five-layered architecture facilitates the exchange of transmutable data across diverse BMSs, making it a valuable tool for researchers and practitioners. © 2024 IEEE.

The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21) held in Paris on December 12, 2015, agreed on the Paris Agreement, which aims to address climate change and its negative impacts as part of the challenge of Global Warming. The transportation sector contributed 23% of CO2 emissions of a global contributor in 2018. Electric vehicles themselves have benefited from an environmental and economic perspective. The development of electric vehicles in Indonesia has increased the number of electric vehicle users as well as research related to customer awareness, opinions, preferences, and satisfaction, identification of markets and potential for technology and innovation, predictions, new policies, literature reviews and topics, keywords and fields related to electric vehicle. From the results of this study, it is expected to be able to find out customer characteristics, customer concerns, market penetration, model social impact data, predict market growth and technology developments, and formulate policies and regulations according to the needs of stakeholders Therefore, a systematic review is needed regarding the publication of electric vehicles based on text mining, then analyzes scientometric analysis Bibliographic database files from 2011 - 2023. © 2023 The Authors. Ecosystems are undergoing unprecedented persistent deterioration due to unsustainable anthropogenic human activities,such as overfishing and deforestation,and the effects of such damage on ecological stability are *** recent advances in experimental and theoretical studies on regime shifts and tipping points,theoretical tools for understanding the extinction chain,which is the sequence of species extinctions resulting from overexploitation,are still lacking,especially for large-scale nonlinear networked *** this study,we developed a mathematical tool to predict regime shifts and extinction chains in ecosystems under multiple exploitation situations and verified it in 26 real-world mutualistic networks of various sizes and *** discovered five phases during the exploitation process:safe,partial extinction,bistable,tristable,and collapse,which enabled the optimal design of restoration strategies for degraded or collapsed *** validated our approach using a 20-year dataset from an eelgrass restoration ***,we also found a specific region in the diagram spanning exploitation rates and competition intensities,where exploiting more species helps increase *** computational tool provides insights into harvesting,fishing,exploitation,or deforestation plans while conserving or restoring the biodiversity of mutualistic ecosystems.
